exactly, sometimes i think abel’s the most vulnerable when he rolls. he can get thrown at any point within the animation and it still has relatively long startup and ending frames where he can easily get hit. i use it most to cross under jump ins and tt.
Dashing is abels best way to get around IMHO. Mostly because people wait for the roll.
Well, you have to know the timing of the tortilla propeller and the other throw. If he misstimes it, you can either roll out or Falling Sky it.
i wouldnt recommend tryign to falling sky his mix ups since the best way to tell is by sound. even that is hard to react to and getting knocked down is the last thing you want. i dont recommend falling sky but hey if you want to do / if it works for you then more power to ya.
Fuerte’s propellor will beat Abel’s roll everytime. It will even beat the EX-roll. I think backdash is one of the better options but it all depends on Fuerte’s tendencies.
Have you guys been watching Justin’s WCG matches?
Pretty nifty FADC, EX rekka trade(against Seth’s limb) into Ultra. He actually beat Arturo with this move in the finals. Crazy.

Ah right I got thrown by the four hit combo just before the f.mk. I thought the combo ended with the f.mk. My bad!
This is the match that they’re talking about in your vid against Arturo:

Right at the end.
“That’s that last night shit!” lol
JWong understands these games on a level I can’t even comprehend.
Hey folks, just signed up and won my first G2 final not long ago and decided to save the recording and I’m looking for input on how to improve my play style.
Keep in mind here I’m using the 360 controller since i don’t have my stick at home right now and I’m not the best player in the world.
I apologize for the crappy sound and picture but the best i could find was a small digital camera to record with but you should be able to make out what’s going on.

Not bad play. I like that you didn’t just spam rekka or constantly look for tornado throws. That’s the mistake I see most ables, including myself, doing.
The things I noticed that you need to work on is handling jump ins and taking advantage of a FA crumple. You were blocking the jump ins well and didn’t fall for a follow up throw, but I saw you try to counter 1 jump in with a falling sky. Falling sky will almost always lose to the jump in kick there.
You should practice using c.fp and timing it so the 2nd hit hits them. This will launch them, letting you combo straight into ultra (hardish timing), rekka -> ultra (easier timing but possibly less damage due to combo scaling), or rekka -> ex falling sky. Note that this is only useful against a jump in like your opponent was constantly doing, and not against a crossup, as the c.fp will whiff there. Also, it’s a little hard to do online due to input lag, which is one of the reasons I’m deciding to play offline only these days (but that’s an unrelated story).
Finally, when you crumpled him with the FA, you punished with only a throw when you had an ultra available. You should follow up FA with c.fp -> ultra in that situation. Some might say the c.fp will kill your ultra damage due to combo scaling, but if you try it in training mode, you will see that FA -> c.fp -> ultra still does more total damage than FA -> ultra.
Yeah, the Falling sky was a bit far fetched but i was getting kinda annoyed by all the jump ins and tried something else.
About the FA, i would have done c.fp to Ultra but i didn’t actually realize i had an Ultra ready until after i had thrown him but it worked out for the best i guess.
I’ll try and work on handling jump ins, thanks for the tips.
Even if you don’t have Ultra, you should follow up the FA crumple with more than just a throw. You can do c.fp -> falling sky, or fierce tornado throw, etc.
But you probably got punished trying to do more than just a throw after a few blocked FAs or lvl 1 FAs that you thought would be level 2. I don’t pretend to punish properly every time.
However, abel is low tier and against good players who are familiar with abel, you can’t afford to miss punish opportunities and expect to win. The 2 ultras through the fireballs ended up better damage than punishing the FA with the ultra, but ultraing through fireballs is a lot harder to do against better players who know about abel’s ability to do that.
You’re better than a lot of abel’s I’ve seen (and probably mine as well). Keep up the good work!
With a level 2 FA, I like to follow it up with a TT if I’m not sure it will land. That way even if it doesn’t land you still have a good chance to get the damage. However, if I can hit-confirm the crumple (read: usually), I do the cr.fp -> ultra punish or the cr.fp falling sky.
you have enough time to hit confirm. you dont even need to hit confirm. after a crumple you have a second before you do your next move, yes still enough time to decide whether to command throw or to cr.fp ultra. plus a lvl 2 fa into fierce command throw does 256 damage. lvl 2 fa into cr.fp fierce falling sky does 280 damage. if you have ultra replace the falling sky to do the ultra. ive never had to hit confirm on a crumple since you see him fall, the opponent makes a sound, and you actually have time to think about which combo you want to do and do it. pretty much once the opponent falls to their knees thats the last chance you have to do a combo. if you wait any longer it will reset. this goes for command throw also.
You use your normal throw too much. TT whiffed shoryukens, or even better, c.fp xx roll xx FS. When a guy is zoning you with fireballs just outside of strike distance try using EX wheel kick, both hits land and that move hurts big time. Beats Ryu’s super & ultra and Dhalsim’s ultra clean as well.
Also IMO throwing them every time they miss a jump in is a bad habit to get into. Luckily, that guy could not tech a throw to save his life even though you did it predictably. Also work on blocking cross-ups… you gave him a lot of combo opportunities off those, again luckily he didn’t really capitalize on them.
shiro is my hero
WTF he has an overhead kick god i have not been paying attention
was it me or was he throwing out FS for shits and giggles or was he whiffing the ultra
Close s.hk, but it’s balls slow.
I think he was using Chun’s stun as a quick opportunity to build meter by throwing out a couple quick FSes. Nice little insight to how detached and clear some people can play the game. If I had just dizzied her it’d be FA xx Combo before I had thought twice
