Abel Match Videos

^ I just saw the Zangief match. If I may suggest a few things:

I swear this seems common for Giefsters, they connect a jab because the player is holding up and then score a reset and on the next attack continue with jab strings to keep you grounded, most of the time I do Ex-TT, for example:
0:54 - Ex-TT
3:17 - Ex-TT

The other part that I see you do every now and then which I do myself is on Gief’s wakeup I jump back but instead of mk I actually do lp, which most of the time hits them on the way out even if they lariat or go for a grab. Also sweeps are like your best pal in this match, Gief likes walking forward, backwards and doing the HK a bunch so you can take advantage of tripping them.

thanks for the feedback man, ill keep it in mind next time on where to use ex tt…

as for sweeps, yeah guess i need to use them more in the match, sometimes i just forgot to do stuff lol

i think i mistimed the jump back mk, it should be able to hit him too if he lariat… not 100% sure

by the way, meaty jump back mk/lp(is the lp version works as an instant overhead like mk too?) on wake up, despite being good, can be countered on block with ex green hand etc, right?

I didn’t know even know mk worked as an overhead, never thought to use it like that. I believe the lp version works if they attack or throw, but if they crouch then it whiffs (makes me wonder now), but I like using lp against certain characters like T.Hawk to reset the ex-wakeup dp (has to be an inch away from character though, not on top of him) and honda to reset the wake-up buttsplashes (non-ex).

I don’t remember about greenhand, I have to get in the lab to check it out, but it has happened to me and I want to say that I recovered in time to block, but that may be wishful thinking.

4:51 till the end of the video: amazing feeling of wanting to punch both Seth Killian and Ultradavid for not knowing a Vanilla corner combo, and calling it “technology” as if it was something recent.

I love them both, but it always ticks me off when Commentators lack knowledge about something brutally basic (as opposed to obscure frame-related things, which I completely understand if they don’t remember).

Another one was our dear Jchensor claiming that Dic’s Psycho Punisher was d/b charge motion, and that AndyOCR pulled something amazing when he did the Ultra while walking backwards. I died inside.

And before I forget: congratulations to Juicebox. I honestly don’t feel like watching Sunday’s Finals, simply because nothing about the top 8 is surprising. On the other hand, if Juicebox was there with his Juri and Abel… I’d watch it all the way.

That Juri was ridiculously good. And the whole “Abel raping a rushdown character”… <333

Great commentary either way. Those flubs can be easily overlooked. No one expects them to know everything about every character especially if they’re characters they do not play. Ancient as the technology may be, you don’t really see it too often in high level play, hype warranted.

I wouldn’t call that corner combo brutally basic, since it is pretty situational. You don’t even want to always do it if you land a combo in the corner cause you have to blow two bars. It’s completely understandable that Seth didn’t know about that combo. James Chen however has had some pretty cringeworthy moments throughout his entire commentating career by stating falsehoods quite regularly. Like one time he said honda’s cr. lp hits low. I like him, but man he needs to learn his shit.

hahah yeah… cringeworthy comments galore…

good shit juicebox and strider

I imagine this has already been found but since i cannot find a video i thought i would share.

3 Frame Safe Jump
Fwd throw, st mk, nj hk

Tested it on every 3 frame DP in the game and the only one that beats it is Kens HP.

Thoughts, comments or OLD!!!?

i dont think ive used that safe jump setup, good stuff

whats left now is to further test, and expand this setup to cover other options etc…

gonna do this first thing when i wake up though lol its 5am and i gotta crash soon

Yeah definitely a lot of things you can do after this a few option selects spring to mind to make it that much more effective, when I’m back home I’ll try and test some.

Nice to hear it might be brand new tech!

ive received a few set plays/wake up offense/safe jumps/unblockable setups videos from a fellow japanese abel player, not sure if he’s okay with uploading them, ill ask him

but first i have to at least re-test them, re-record and finally upload them.

me vs deejay

me vs yun

the deejay’s pretty good (ranked 3rd), that crossup at the end of the video particularly was pretty nastyyy (i dont get to play this matchup that much so i dont know every tricks deejay has, though i do think abel wins this comfortably)

Nekojita is sick, I really like his footsie-heavy playstyle where he minimizes his risks in almost all scenarios. It’s refreshing watching him play over, say AC, where he just goes in there and guesses like crazy. I’m not saying playing extremely defensive is better than not, it’s just really good to see someone succeeding in Japanese arcades with Abel, with that playstyle.

One thing to note though, I don’t thing Nekojita AA once that whole set… I don’t know if either he was too focused on the ground game to notice, or if he’s scared of getting stuffed. But I do know that most of the time he had meter when Gief jumped, and that’s a free AA, no matter what the angle of the jump is.

Still, this just highlights how well you can do in bad matches with a lot of dedication.

Itabashi was doing his j. forward’s really early, which CAN beat all of abel’s AA normals in some situations. Vance has gotten it on me a few times, but I always figured it was more of a fluke scenario. Dunno if Itabashi has figured out some sort of spacing to force that situation, or if Nekojita was just scared of the possibility.

Nekojita reminds me of Shiro mixed with AC patient but agressive at times
