Hey everyone, I have a vid of myself playing a local Chun from a tourny on 3/5/11. It was a grand finals match.
This is my first grand final for SSF4. I wanna type up what I was doing in the match and why, this way it’ll look clearer
for those that are watching.
Things to keep in mind:
- I was undefeated and had a 3 game cushion in winners set of grand finals.
- Because of that ^ I was more relaxed than I usually would be. I had more room to work with.
- My main goal was to just get in that ass. I ate a lot of EX Sbk’s, but I didn’t care compared
to the amount of damage I could do to Chun, I wasn’t worried. - I wanted to keep the game as mid ranged as possible.
- The “1 Win” on Chun side was from previous match.

Game 1 round 1:
0:26
I wanted to see if he would fall for corner mixups.
0:35
I know the guy likes to try to play keepaway. Usually likes to do st strong, cr RH string to push me out.
In this round I just wanted to feel him out. It starts kinda in the middle of the match and I
don’t remember much from earlier in it.
Round 2:
Early on I wanted to try to get him to come to me, so I could get a st mk from him walking into it.
I keep doing this throughout.
1:09
I neutral jump and don’t hit a button, if I hit a button I get tipped with ex SBK, he wastes meter.
If I don’t hit a button I block safely.
1:13
He loves doing EX SBK. Always does it when he has 2+ bars. (Usually)
1:17
I do a cr strong, wait, focus.
I wanted him to counter poke me so I could crumple or dash in TT. Because he likes hitting buttons,
I was hoping to anticipate it. Oh well
Game 2 Round 1:
Got too anxious early on, but slowed it down after.
1:37
I wanted to make the roll as ambiguious as possible, and while he was shocked with getting hit by it,
I was hoping to get a 2nd low CoD but oh well.
Now he has no meter so I can try to get in.
1:47
Basic ambiguous roll setup. Didn’t do it from that range previous so figured I would try it since he had no meter.
Then went for same roll mixup as in game one, instead ended with jab jab TT.
Then normal walk xx overhead since I always dashed in. I just wanted to go for a different setup.
He had meter but it was worth the risk IMO.
Round 2:
2:15
I wanted to risk the roll xx cr fierce. I was doing good. haha. umm I probably could’ve gone for overhead.
I mean I still would’ve gotten hit but just to try it in that situation. He wastes meter again to get me off,
but i really don’t lose anything from it.
2:18
The focus is for the cr RH I mentioned earlier. He likes ending his strings with that. So I didn’t really go for it
in game 1 round 2, or the previous round, so I went for it.
Game 3 Round 1:
I realized I was one game away and got too anxious.
2:58
Same focus attack strategy, just to beat the RH.
3:09
Went for same ambiguous setup from game 1. Probably could’ve TT, but it was worth the risk, given the situation.
Game 3 Round 2:
3:45
Went for different mixup in the corner. I ended it with overhead, just so that if he saw a Rh instead of a jab,
he would think that it were a different situation. All I was trying to accomplish was just something different.
Just as a wtf moment.
Round 3:
Im not happy with how I did in this round. Too anxious. I went for some similar setups. But ehh.
4:37
He was a little limb happy so I went for a roll xx ex TT to try to roll through a limb.
At the end I realized I went for the roll setups too many times. Again I was too anxious.
Why I lost? Too anxious, try to get in too much, didn’t think through, messed up spacing. Just wasn’t thinking
and sticking to what works.
Game 4 Round 1:
Early on, I was still kinda eh about the previous game, I’ll admit that. Forgot about the 2 hits xx throw setup.
5:15
I wanted to look for a limb to jump, so I jumped when it felt right. He would always walk in then hit a button
usually.
5:19
I stop dashing. I took it slower this time. Didn’t go for dash xx roll xx whatever.
5:25
I wanted to do the same setup from the other 2 games, but then do nothing, and go for ultra.
He had enough meter, so I just waited.
5:42
Walk xx overhead setup from game 2. I didn’t dash just to keep it simple and different.
Round 2:
6:04
I wanted to bait an attack and focus like in previous games.
6:10
It was the final winning round for me, so I figured Chun would get anxious and try to attack on my
wakeup so I went for EX CoD. Also he attacked on wakeup in previous rounds.
6:20
Because I baited the EX SBK at around 6:15, I wanted to go for TT this time.
6:28
I messed up I wanted st fierce not cr fierce. I was like wtf haha.
6:36
I just went for the 2nd low like in game 1. I didn’t care. haha
Sorry for this being so long, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible.
