Ugh, bad sakuras make me cry inside.
Here is a playlist of some of my ranked matches.
some questions/notes

I feel like I’m waaaay too aggressive against chun and I can’t really stand up to her bullshit. EX sbk especially. I know in theory what I should do and its not like I’m unfamiliar with the matchup but I just get a severe mental block when I see chun on the screen and play it like a retard… I want to play it more patiently but her walk speed is so damn fast that I just can’t keep up and I start dashing or jumping into shit.

I get upset really easily. Once I lose in what I feel is an unfair manner… I’m pretty much guaranteed to lose the next few matches. Any tips on how to stay calm and reduce saltiness? The best example of this are the vega matches. The same ****** must’ve kept farming me for BP and after the second match I figured out his gameplan but I got so mad by how lame it was and even more so when I checked replay and saw that he had turbo on that i completely lost it. I played him 5 times that day and lost every single time…

I’ve got an issue in shoto matches where I don’t capitalize on knockdowns. I can adapt and play evenly with good ryus over a session but in a one off enviroment like ranked matches or tournament settings I feel like I can’t adapt quickly enough. I’m too scared of wakeup dp to do anything at first because i find it so hard to gain momentum and get a knockdown against a ryu with strong ground game that I don’t want to risk something stupid to reverse the flow… but by doing that I give him a reprieve and the game goes back to neutral…

I can’t deal with wakeup pressure from a grappler. Against anyone else I can sort of feel out what I should or shouldn’t do and I’m not scared to block but against a grappler thats one of the last things I want to do. I start mashing to get out and die so quick… Any tips against that?
I’ve been grinding training mode lately and blocking more and I’ve seen my win rate shoot up. Now I’ve got combos down, I gotta start working on other stuff.
Any tips and criticism would be very welcome.
it’s not just shotos… your oki game is lacking. you should always keep them guessing.
other than that, matchup knowledge and execution seem to be a problem that will progress over time.
If you are super paranoid about wakeup shoryu from shotos, option select back throw owns it. Especially vs those guys who think jab shoryu 95% of the time they wake up is a good idea and don’t even bother to FADC. You have to sell it though, so run a normal setup (dash, short roll or mk roll) then do the OS back throw. It loses to wakeup mashed normals or tech tho
Your footsies aren’t bad. vs FB characters using focus from just outside their c.mk xx hado range can work wonders. You can bulldog by focus absorbing the FB and then dashing in or you can just absorb the FB and lvl2 their outstretched hands for the crumple. You could work in some sweeps too.
hmm doing far lk to f+mk is harder than doing c.lp to f+mk. less frame advantage so to get a grounded punish on jump outs it is a 1 frame link from lk to f+mk. With c.lp it is 3 frames. vs Dhalsim since he only has 3 pre-jump frames instead of 4 plus that b+lk you should always c.lp, f+mk. s.lk also spaces you out so far f+mk will only work as a counterpoke on most characters, and that leaves you open to whiff punishes…
Only thing you really have to work is your oki… Abel can be played in a lot of different ways but I always work towards ending the match after the first knockdown. if I take some damage, bummer, and I can get randomed out because of it on bad days, but a good oki game as Abel works vs everybody at all levels
Guess who’s back in the mother fuggin’ house:

great job man especially with your spacing
More than anything else, this is why you lose. Not to put you on blast, but that’s the absolute worst possible attitude you can have playing this game, especially with a coin flip character.
“Unsafe” moves are only unsafe if punished. “Dumb” setups are only dumb if you get out of them. You don’t always get to play the game your way, but you’ll never be able to stop your opponent from playing their way if you aren’t first able to acknowledge it. If you’re getting beaten by something that you feel is stupid, stop and ask yourself “what am I going to do about this?” Once you’ve answered that question properly, you should no longer lose to that setup/move/character.
Your oki game is weak, but that’s just a side effect of a much greater problem: you appear to have no gameplan to speak of for your matchups. Your match against that Ryu basically involved FA’ing fireballs at full screen, then jumping in for no reason, then getting counter hit by mediocre Ryu footsies. Decide on your first order of business in a matchup(bait a dp, force him to the corner, jump over a fireball, etc.) , and then determine the best way of getting there. When you aren’t having to think about what you want to do, you get to spend more time watching your opponent, which translates into reading him better when you get that all-important knockdown. Right now you’re just auto-piloting, and poorly at that.
All right. I’m gonna start working on my oki and approaching more on wakeup. Its helping a lot more than I thought. I guess I got tagged by wakeup dp because I only got close when I did something, making it way too obvious. Scrub shotos are way more tame than I thought they were haha.
@Sakeido: Yeah I’ve been playing these past few weeks with the intent of making my footsies better. No random rolls or wheel kicks and pressing buttons with intent. I’m glad its showing. Thanks for the tip about focus attacks. Its already having a pretty decent effect but I can’t seem to use the sweep that well… I always get CH. Maybe I’m doing it too close?
@ghostmaker I completely appreciate the honest criticism. I never thought to approach a matchup with a specific goal each time but now that I think of it, I guess having a good gameplan can make me a lot more consistent.
As for the getting salty part, I totally get thats a really bad attitude to have but it affects me to the point that I cant punish shit which I can when I’ve got a cool head simply because the frustration reduced me to a retard mashing buttons… I go into training mode once I encounter a setup I find hard to get out of or I ask someone who mains that character how to get out of that trap. I guess I just need to chill the fuck out and realise its just a game.
Thanks a lot for the advice guys. I’m gonna try and implement them in my game best I can
Couple videos of me and my buddy: These were cherry picked for their “coolness”. No new concepts here, these are just entertainment.

I was playing some friendlies online against a Cammy player and found out that st.MP stuffs Cammys air roll thing:
yeah, st.mp tends to stuff a lot of stuff. lol
so i won a small ranbat yesterday, beating a thawk and two rose players. will link to videos once they are available. the rose was beating me in casuals before the tourney and he took the first set of the finals with a convincing straight win but i came back and took it to the final round. heh
