Abel Match Videos

Heres Some matches with me and Geom Modinside… I lost all of them (Except the 1st, which he didn’t record) but they were still some really good close matches…
I would love some feedback as to what i should be doing or what i could do better next time plz, thanks… (#4 Was Really Nice lol)

Your Abel is actually pretty solid, but I noticed two things.

1.) You have this tendency to dash before a roll, no matter how close you are to the person. You do this especially on wakeup. The Guile seemed to catch on, and kept getting you with limbs and throws. If you want to roll on his wakeup, you have to do it earlier. The way you were doing it, you were dashing when he had already recovered.

2.) In a match where you have enough trouble getting in as it is, go for the guaranteed damage on the c.hp xx falling sky/wheel kick. Don’t go for resets.

SICK AV dude.

yo I got sf4 for the PC and i’m just wondering what kind of recording equipment you guys would use for that or the xbox. i tried fraps but the fps was 2 low and lagging the hell out my game to the point where i couldn’t play.

my bro played Geom a few days ago… that guy is amazing with guile. but as far as feed back…i would say you should have mixed it up more after you knocked him down. you should have used m.k to cross him up on wake up. guiles not to good on wake up against corss ups. he will either have to block the cross up then u can block string tt or if it hit confirms then u know what to do, and agaisnt Geom dont use the focus attack as much. he likes to rush you down so he will probably knock you right out of it every time. use his agression against him, your block strings were good but i would always end it with f+mk then tt and then bait the reversal flash kick and if he tries to back dash after f+mk block string then f+mk again and hit confirm it, or ultra is an option against the back dash you played well though but opp wake up is the main thing u should work on ggs

abel v gen

:wtf:im having mad trouble with gen i got frustrated and started jumping and spamming wheel kick! i had no idea what to do!here is a vid of me getting poked to death pls give feed back

Yo whats up with the wheel kick SPAM??? Its really silly watching that video seeing wheel kick after another wheel kick, and then another… and then another… its surreal… At the very least you should already realized that spamming wheel kicks dont work from the first round, but no you had to do that shit again in the 2nd round…

I dont really know the matchup that well to advice on what to do to get in against Gen, but I know that you can start by stop just spamming special moves and block more.

edit: and use f.mk and s.lk and blockstrings… do anything but spam wheel kicks and jumping around. dont get me wrong though, wheel kick has its uses in this matchup from what ive seen (since gen loves to jump around) but yeah its definitely not a safe move to spam.

Wheel kick is not safe, you keep throwing em out like that and your going to get raped over and over. It has slow start up, and slow recovery (Abel does a strange little hop backwards) so anyone half decent decent can punish it on reaction, let alone when they are looking for it. It has its uses, the lk used SPARINGLY with the right spacing is good, and maybe just maybe you can throw out a goofy rh version at range.

It also has its uses in combos, EX wheel kick can be good after both hits of c.fp, it does about the same damage as FS and keeps your opponent in the corner (http://theabelblog.blogspot.com/search/label/videos). EX version can also be used to get through fireballs etc etc - but again it should be overused!

roundhouse wheel kick is always, always a bad idea  unless it is a punish. and even then you can get punished on hit by some pretty ridiculous stuff

Yeah, use it to punish for the KO! haha

Yeah because I very very rarely use it on xbox live dudes - doesn’t make it a good idea

I use the long range wheel kick on those show offs that sit in the corner constantly jabbing thinking they hardcore, what I do is move forward bit by bit then when in range… “useless”… after that they don’t turtle anymore lol

Also another good combo I use on non-shotos and some crap shots is cr.lp or cr.lk as a block string then follow it up with an EX wheel kick, I found it works quite well most of the time

those are both solid strategies against scrubs
roundhouse wheel kick takes almost 40 frames to cross the screen so if they get hit by that, they deserve it. and using EX wheel kick point blank is a terrible idea

LOL yeah ex wheel kick even goes over them if they’re crouching… even ex wheel kick against fireball isnt that good unless it gets the KO or you’re close enough to get both of the hits or tagging akuma while he’s air fireballing (since he takes good damage from it)

I’m guilty for using the HK wheel kick at times though, especially against charge character to chip/finish them off(usually when I have a significant life lead/meter)… when we’re at a distance and i provoke them to walk forward and forcing them to lose their charge, then they have to either block and eat the chip OR if they’re really good they can stuff the wheel kick but i’ll probably be where i wanted to be to finish them off easily now. kinda scrubby yeah, i guess its the kinda thing you do when the situation allows you to do so.

Hmm I’ve amounted about 800 hours on 360 Live and PC versions of SF4, and I found that close up EX wheel kick works most of the time. Does that mean I’ve been playing scrubs all this time? Even when I reached G1 when the first wave of Live players reached G1? Surley not! As long as you don’t abuse it and mix it up it should be fine. Yeah long range wheel kick only works on scrubs and cocky barstewards

LOL

Sorry to break it to you homie, but yes… you’ve been playing scrubs the whole time. I reached G1 with the first wave of players, and they were ass.

lol @ playing “that” card

people see the flash and they can block it on reaction… not counting reversals/block punishes…

EX wheel kick up close loses to everything except mashed throw. one jab and you just wasted one meter to accomplish nothing. You get reset out of the air right in front of the other guy, if you even made it off the ground to begin with. Not to mention it will sometimes whiff like hfz said.

I hate to say it but yes, you have been playing scrubs this entire time

edit: haha god damn it appears there is consensus here. I made it to G1 early too… nothing good to be seen. The SG matches I’ve seen are garbage too. Online SF4 is not real street fighter

I wish there was a decent UK scene so I could play some veterans, tbh I am getting kinda bored with SF4 now, probably coz of the weak competition. Anyways give that block string EX wheel kick a go, see if the high tier players get out of it at the first time you use it, I doubt they will. I’ve seen many Abel vid and havent seen that once yet, so your opposition won’t be expecting it. Use it sparingly I’d say, also when doing the block string, I think the cr.lk or cr.lp needs to connect 4 times, then the opposition will be perfect distance for 2 hit EX kick… except for Vega/Claw I tend to go over that skinny opera singing puff

Yeah, you need to get better opponents man… Random wheel kicks(apparently the one you suggested is similar to one) are never good in my book, and im not speaking out of theory only, been there done that. Ive get jabbed out of my ex wheel kicks god knows how many times before. As for your video arguments… thats just, i dont know… Not everything is recorded on video (especially above average-top level play) and maybe there’s a reason you dont see good players do it? Because its a bad idea, maybe? Its not about your opponent not expecting it, its about how easy for them to just react to it.
