Abel Match Videos

I’m pretty certain that Zangief is going to be twirling the stick like crazy any time you try to combo or mixup, so I don’t know if it’s worth the risk for just a little extra damage. I’m not confident enough to try it and c.mk works pretty well anyway.

I wish you could just choose to save any replay, I don’t have any good way of recording.

Well that, and lariat. No stick twirling needed to beat your mixups attempts… thats why f.mk st.hp is one of the most important thing in this matchup (besides zoning gief out that is)…

@Nick T - yeah thats why your execution have to be on point? Doesnt matter a 1 frame link against a 1 frame grab, if your execution is good, you’ll get the damage…in other words its worth it imo. Getting in damage against gief there’s always a risk involved… Sure you can play expecting him to jump at you while you zone him out, but i think he has the upper hand with lariat, and a good gief by now should already know how abel’s going to deal with jumpins and they will work having that in mind…

I’m talking about punishment vs hit confirming the st mk fierce with your eyes.

If you’re just sticking mk out and going for a dash in a non - punishment, poking situation, its more risky for you to try to hit confirm the mk vs a 1 frame grab. Meanwhile if Gief sticks out a st RH for example, then st mk will hit and its easier to followup with that.

Fwd.mk and cr.mk are game winners if spaced right vs geif.

Fwd.mk combos are essential to learn anyways, there shouldn’t be arguments about it, ever.

“Oh sure TU is good vs jump-ins, but st.rh is also good and a lot easier” :wasted:

never said they weren’t lol

standing medium kick as an AA and somtimes standing fierce works with ryus hit box as a AA when ryu tries to jump in with a roundhouse from kinda close but youll have to play with it in training cause its weird IMO opinoin your Abel looks solid though you dont really put your self in bad spots with dumb jump ins and stuff another thing id say is you did a roll on the opp wake up alot not that its a bad thing just might want to mix it up but other than that looked good to me

hey thanks for the feedback, yeah st.hp can stuff things on top but sometimes i messed up and did a cr.hp instead lol… my execution can be extremely good at times and vice versa, i guess thats normal but put that aside, i still think my execution is only average or maybe slightly below average…

as for the rolls on wakeup, i was actually in the mood practicing ambiguos rolls that time, i noticed i did that alot too in those vids (also got a few ultras from roll meaty cr.hp )

im hoping for a japanese friend of mine to come online so we can have good matches, id love to fight his chunli(his main, he has like 20k+ bp card and is decent with a buncha other chars too)

thanks again for the feedback.

Hey, anyone know if Shiro’s going to be entering the national SFIV tournament, I haven’t seen a new match from him in ages.

shiro been beasting, though not caught on camera obviously… recently he fought mago and went toe-to-toe… mago’s beaten everyone convincingly (he travelled and stuff to fight them, kinda like ryu lookin for a stronger opponent)… he admits that he’s looking forward to fight shiro again, and it will happen soon.

as for the tournament, its safe to assume he’s going to join, but im not hearin any news yet… its a 3on3 format, so im excited to see who are his teammates if he joined, I doubt Iyo’s gonna be on his team though since i heard Iyo’s proly taken already, but thats not confirmed…

Awesome, someone needs to hunt him down and get some more footage. I wonder if he’ll beat any teams on his own.

He probably can but no one is unbeatable and we all know when it comes to tournament, it can also come down to who’s on fire on that day, nahmean? Still going to be an interesting tourney i bet… not sure if i can make it but hopefully i can… though i doubt they’re going to allow any recordings lol

(((((SHIRO)))) ((((GANBADE)))))

Ha, that sucks, i was just going to ask you if you could be nice and maybe get some footage of him playing. But oh well, shame they don’t allow recordings. There hasn’t been any videos of him in ages :(/

Are you guys talking about the Capcom National Tournament? Shiro is in with Ojisan Boy and Kyabetsu (Team Lettuce Sandwich). That’s a really solid team and I think they’re going to do really well. Plus, they’ve got the best team name in the tournament.

Seems like “Team Lettuce Sandwich” just won their first fight!!! Congrats!!! Go Go Shiro!!

This thread is interesting, you guys have compiled a lot of good info.

Here’s some from my personal notes against zangief.

*Make sure your reactions are good in the footsie match to properly react to what they’re doing: c.mk his s.rh on reaction into CoD. s.mk his whiffed chops (takes practice), s.mp his whiffed lariats and c.mk into CoD missed lariats with proper space and timing.
*when you have two meters you can get a little more risky and do CoD FADC combos on HIT OR BLOCK. Since most giefs mash 360s, if the combo is blocked, always abort and jump away to avoid being lariated/SPD’d. If they happen to whiff an SPD you get a free ultra even if you jump back.
*C.FP anti air trade is hot cause it ensures your ultra hitting everytime. Make sure the gief you play does moves in the air though. If you fight one of the empty jump giefs (like vegita-x in that vid), then work on J.FP on reaction.
*On his wake up, just jump back mk or jab. There’s no point in trying anything as he really has the advantage. One wrong guess equals a loss for abel. So basically you just want to keep the distance and footsy game together.
*On your wake up against him, it boils down to: backdash, jump back, ex TT, ex roll, or just good ol’ blocking. If the gief jumps in empty, jump back. If the gief walks up, try to backdash. EX roll should be used sparingly as it’ll almost always lead into a mashed throw or mashed lariat. Blocking a lariat spammer will push you away, which will work in conjunction with a backdash to create space.
*If a gief hits you with an early jumping mk, you can jab TT it when he lands barring there’s no ultra. (I tried against some gief only players and they couldn’t stop it, but I may just be lucky).

This is the most time consuming match for abel cause you can’t rush gief down for shit. However, if played slowly enough, the gief player will have the most frustrating time beating you. Because of the perceived “ease” of this match for gief, they tend to play sloppily in this match. Use that to your advantage with a clean/safe footsie game using the above notes as some kind of foundation as they’ve helped me turn a supposedly impossible match into an even if not advantageous match for me.

On another note, wtf do you guys do against rufus dive kick pressure? I’m pretty sure you guys saw me get owned up by Justin. I think the rufus fight by far is abel’s worst match hands down. All his other ones are very winnable except that one since Abel’s throw game gets thrown out the window. Maybe I’m just playing too cautious. Any tips?

holy shit… solid team. i cant believe i fucking missed the qualifiers…

in other news, i recorded probably the last batch of vids of my player matches just now, its 4am right now so I might upload them tomorrow, I think the matches are pretty good(a few comebacks here and there)… and i might not be able to record anything for now since I got to finish my thesis and other assignments, and by the time im done, i wont be having the camera with me :frowning: (camera’s im using right now is a friend’s)

i hope to get some more feedbacks for this last batch of vids imma post tomorrow.

peace out!!

edit: w00t combofiend in da house lol

I usually try to keep Rufus in front of me, jump RH on reaction to dive.

On wakeup, depending on angle and deepness of the dive, i’ll either focus backdash (crossup dive), throw (not meaty enough dive), or EX roll, but that really depends.
Most times I get off focus backdash because people love doing crossup dives on wakeup.
If I happen to block, I’ll wait for a throw to tech, or a dive thats not deep enough so I can throw.

I ALWAYS backdash on their first knockdown as they are bound to be trying for the throw after that I’ll mix it up with EX Roll

tbh I think the knock down in this match up is almost as dangerous as in the Gief match up because dive kick pressure can really be a bitch but you have a lot more options in general in the rufus fight

I tend to rush down at the start of the match as Rufus with no bar isn’t as much of a threat if you get that first TT you are good to go with ambiguous cross ups and roll knock down mix ups however once he gets bar it is much harder baiting good Rufus’s is hard as then don’t see it as some super invincible move unlike Rufus scrubs

I tend to neutral lk a lot in this match up can’t explain why though

Jump back fp when it all gets too much since it isn’t exactly hard to get in on Rufus but then hk beats it and links into bullshit ex snake strike or ultra

I use jump in lp quite a lot and tend to play conservative when I have the lead trying to zone if i can with good footsies st.lk cr.hp, cr.mk st.mk st.mp st.fp (occasionally) all of these are very good in his match up

cr.fp is weird as an anti-air because dive kicks sometimes beat it

good shit peter, footies ar ethe best thing in the gief match, played joe dubbs last night and thats how it went 3-1 me finally hah. anyways i played wong’s rufus last night and he RAPED the shit out of me. he told me something though (maybe he told you) but i asked him what can i do against the dive kick pressures and he told me this. you can option select throw and fierce, if rufus does another dive kick fierce will come out and if he goes for the throw you will tech. the timing is hard and will require practice though so hopefully that helps anyone that cant deal with the pressure.
