Abel Match Videos

I hate gief with a passion

I recently tried to stop jumping and work on my AA as well and the dp happy people i used to lost to im starting to make them look foolish now. its amazing how much that helps your game

Jumping is generally bad(especially reckless ones)… but from my understanding, jumping is part of footsies too(albeit a small part and depending on matchup).

…as for resres’s post, against honda yeah you best stay on the ground except when he has no meter and you wanna cross him up on oki. honda + meter = lol dont jump evar (except maybe far neutral jump)

against boxer on the other hand, sometimes you can jump in to crossup when you’re in range during footsies… but then yomi is kinda necessary…

I guess my point is, if you jump in not knowing what you’re doing, better dont jump at all.

I used to be very consistent when it came to playing bad, and every now and then I’d have a good day where I played decently.
Ever since watching those tutorials about 4-5 days ago and practicing input execution skills I’ve been playing consistently good.
I still have troubles against a Balrog but it’s always close matches now, and I lose because I’m trying to be too careful not to get hit (we’d both be down to one or two hits left before one of us gets KO’d) that I don’t make use of the chances I’m given to attack as much.

brutal.

Don’t be afraid to fight Gief
Know your ranges
just worry about getting in at the right times, not quite about landing forward + mk combos
Get most of your hits off trades and worry about landing the ultra, it’s much easier for you to land yours then it is for Gief to land his.
AA with st mk from far, cr mk from one character space away, cr fierce from on top (play around with this and you’ll see what I mean)
Punish everything you can.

Good luck .

Me vs Hadouken/ DP spammer/ Ragequit Loser Ryu

Sorry I couldn’t upload to youtube.

so after spending 6+ hours at school, went straight to the arcades to spend my last 100yen(aka USD1 for 2 credits) before going totally broke… and got destroyed by ryu lol… then he even gave me 200 yen to fight him more (and i won 1 out of 4 matches…), oh and i know him its not like a total stranger is giving me money

urgh i still roll/jump/push buttons too much… need to restraint myself better…

i still need to solidify my fundamentals… and its hard to achieve that from fighting random ppl online, but i guess its better here than at other places… hmm.

just one of those days.

if im making vids tonight, i’ll try my fuckin best not to overdo the rolls, jumps and stuff… no matter how bad the opponent is. :(((((

of a compilation of 5+ hours of footage of a single match up I played with a friend of mine (offline). The match up is my Abel vs his Seth. I wrote annotations for the video, which will also be put in the description some time tomorrow. This video isn’t everything there is to know about the match up (a lot of intended footage was cut out due to youtube’s limits), but there’s a lot of detailed information that will help any Abel player in this match up.

If you look into his youtube account, there are a lot more videos of me playing casual and tournament matches, and another similar video for . That one is much more basic. There’s no notes, and it doesn’t really go into the important aspects of the match up. It was just done for fun to show off some funny things that happened in a night of recording.

I didn’t want to post this multiple times even though these videos might help some people in the match up thread, so if anyone has any questions or discussion about the videos (the match up ones in specific), let me know, and maybe we can move the discussion to that thread.

resres:
Thanks for the Alex Valle tutorial, I’ll go watch it now!!

sakeido:
Keep up the good work, you’ll get him for sure one day!!

hfz:
LOL@ the kind hearted guy gave you money to play with him!

HunterSFL:
Thank you for sharing the vids, I hope I could learn something in it!

hey hunter i think i played your abel online a few weeks ago in championship mode, your execution was flawless keep it up

@sakeido Yeah, that Gief matchup is painful to watch. I think you had some openings but you couldn’t execute them as I assume you normally would. I usually space Gief out with short wheel kicks and s.mp, but when he uses his jab or roundhouse, that’s when I f.mk (or c.mk) which you were doing. Yeah, this matchup sucks… it’s even worse when the Gief knows how to do option selects.

btw, I think we’ve played on XBL before.

@hunter Whoa, that’s a pretty neat idea to do their with your videos. Good stuff. I feel that I know so much Ken stuff to do a similar video, heh.

@hunter, nice vid thanks for posting it! I dont really know the seth matchup… I think I got hit my a nasty combo(35 hit combo) the other day though the ultra at the end did little to no damage… but i was left dumbfounded.

great vid, that was an entertaining watch

wat a coincidence i play 2 seperate, but both good Seths in a row last night (EXTREMELY RARE)
I had a lot of trouble with his super meaty dive kicks in my face, especially wen i didnt have EX
i tried wat i do against Rufus, but it felt harder to shake off, idk coulda just been me

i actually never lost but i had to resort to pixel comebacks ultras to take off 60% of that fools health

GGs last night…anytime u want to play again feel free to send me an invite…My friends list is currently full and I ran out of people to delete…lol. Anyways, keep up the good work.

IFC Zangief

I was wondering what was up with that, the request never even popped up in my friends list. I will definitely shoot you an invite sometime, I need more experience against good players before Evo… especially in matchups like that one.

You gotta be able to land F+MK combos, its a low risk move that has good priority against Gief’s standing jab and strong and then it is a guaranteed 250/350/550 damage depending on how much meter you have.
My biggest weakness in the Gief matchup aside from my footsies is AAing him and then oki after I knock him down. I guessed wrong every single time against vegita. Never occurred to me to use standing far forward though… hmm

Usually against gief, if its the first match where I dont know his play styles and all, just to test the waters I’d Oki with getting close and jump back mk, stuffs a lot of stuff its pretty safe and if the gief does a green hand, from my experience they’re almost always going to go for a SPD so TT on landing is probably the best followup to the jump back mk(in case of green hand)…

As for AA-ing gief, sometimes my cr.mk loses to his j.mk… and lately the gief i fought dont jump in that much and trying to frustrate me with his normals while building meter with lariat… though I guess the main thing is to get an early life lead so the gief has to get close… and footsies all day everyday… get grabb’d!

So this time i took some vids and uploaded only those I think I did decent/well and it helps if i can get any kinds of feedback on how to improve(minus the obvious execution error like not punishin blanka ball/fireball with ultra, and certain reaction issue):

(vs blanka)

(vs ryu)

(vs ryu)

(vs ryu)

(vs gouki)

(vs honda)

Ive tried to reduce the unnecessary jumps/rolls as much as possible (there are still some wtf moments where jumping/rolling at the worst time ever)…

I take any kinds of feedback, you can be harsh if you think I deserved it lol… Thanks in advance!

edit: trying to add a few annotations here and there

True but a 1 frame link vs a 1 frame grab makes st mk combos very high risk in the gief match, not worth it IMO. Only if you KNOW it connects as a punish.
