Abel Match Videos

Aye, I tend to have certain bad habits I’m trying to get rid of ^^" (random rolls, FAs on wakeup)

Thanks for the advice though, at least I know which direction to go :shy: I’m currently playing on a PS3 controller though and some motions aren’t as easy to input as compared to a stick (used to have one, it just totally failed one day and I’ve been saving up for a new one ><)

I’ve heard of Round 1 but never been to it, thanks for the link =)

I saw tons of whiffed FS right up close, it’s fine to use at long range for meter building, but from what I’ve seen you’ll get raped up close due to it’s uselessness as anything other than a combo finisher and sometimes, rarely a neutral jump punisher.

Also, in that abel vs ryu Japan match, that super at 3 minutes was a really stupid thing to do. If he’d done an SRK he would have got him and won the match. Not to mention he could have retained the meter.

Even though that Abel/Ryu match wasn’t that good, I’m just reminded that Japan is full of amateur players too, not just godlike players, and it would be so fun to go over there and get a card and try to build up BP. wistful sigh I sure hope SSF4 gets an arcade release. What a shame it would be if those 35 characters never had an opportunity to get fully explored, especially if SSF4 is going to last for several years.

Sorry, carry on.

god dammit guys Abel is so OP he’s totally getting nerfed

I have a proper vid from that set uploading now too

LOL poor sim… he moved himself forward to get hit by the ultra by doing his ultra LMAO…

should’ve just let you whiff and punish heh

I didn’t move the slightest bit after Dhalsim’s ultra flash… I think it was the very last frame of my ultra or something

Here is a match between me and that guy… he beat me 8-2 but I’m just uploading the first match… which I won/look the best in

TMNTemps (Abel) vs. PajaroMayor (Dhalsim)

a lot of missed opportunities here even still though

what i meant was, because the sim did his ultra, he moved his hitbox a lil bit forward to be able to get hit by your ultra…

lol @ uploading the match you won

edit: quick feedback on the vid(since i gotta run soon)

use st.hp when sim teleports next to you, it works like a charm… iirc throw the st.hp a bit early so the 2nd hit of it will hit sim… i havent been using it much since ive forgotten about it too but i recalled a good abel beat sabin last time he was here, using st.hp a lot to deal with close teleports…

you didnt use cl s.hk that much, from my recent experience with a pretty decent sim, it works well too against sim, mix it up in your f.mk dash strings or meaty on wakeup since no sim will want to wake up being next to you, mostly they are going to try to backdash or teleport or jumpback fierce or throw(least likely)

good stuff regardless.

edit: good shit with the OS cr.lk sweep(im assuming you OS’ed it) its always nice when people get hit by that slow ass sweep haha

ya if dhalsim didnt do ultra you wouldve whiffed. his own fault for getting hit by it

anyways, some player matches video i took earlier:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=9992FF94A3E67B82

first few matches were against a claw… there’re also quite a number of matches against ryu, one against a scrubby sagat, once against an asshole sagat(you’ll know when you watch the vid lol), and the rest with a gouken (laggy at parts, still kinda fun i guess)

enjoy, hopefully some people can learn useful stuff from the vids

LOL to the Reversal UC but got beat up Sim!

Gonna check out hfz’s vids now, thank you!

oh and i didnt play to good, especially against those ryus, none of them really got their AA locked down, knowing that, i jump in on them/cross up them up for free…

I don’t punish every teleport so that he thinks he can get away with it. later on I started hitting them… that match, there was one I tried to punish, but I got far roundhouse instead of close roundhouse so it didn’t work out very well and I lost right after that haha. I usually use close roundhouse because it does the most damage & stun on the one hit. there are a few times fierce would have worked to stop them too because he was over my head.

other than that I made dumb mistakes like getting a guaranteed jump in and then instead of comboing into CoD, I just do shorts and jabs instead. this guy lives in Mexico too so even though our connection is smooth, the timing is off on the whole thing so I kept missing meaty c.fp for both hits and just getting the first one and stuff like that.

OS Sweep FTW. there are other times where I did the os and I just got the shorts cuz he didn’t backdash so I think I’m finally getting it down. Usually meaty falling sky works great against this guy too, but this time around I forgot to do it… I can do some things right, but never everything right

plus man that match is long and boring. I need a better gameplan against Sim

Victim of the shortcut system! Your “Tricked” Video…going for the EX COD but you get an EX Falling Sky…I HATE when that happens! I wish there was a way to toggle the shortcut motions off!

You press a lot of buttons dude. Press less buttons, especially against Sagat.

Also, more ambiguous roll on your Oki, you’re giving up a lot of pressure on a knockdown against Ryu.

Nice videos hfz69, really good to watch, the couple of things I noticed were too many random rolls and jump in’s - you got stung quite a few times particularly against that ryu. Also you use c.lp and c.lk stings alot but didn’t mix it up with f-mk pressure a great deal (which might have been intentional)

Still good stuff.

And the commentary on the Gouken match was funny - “fuck the lag” and laughing at him when you baited his counter

I agree with you, I’m trying to reduce that… Kinda a bad habit of mine, developed while learning to tech throw… some of the times i purposely pressed buttons while being under blockstun(knowing that the move wont come out) though…

Will try to do more of the ambiguous rolls in today’s matches, im still stuck at my lab for now :frowning:

If im making a video today, i’ll be more serious lol… Cause like in the sagat vid(not the sagat who baited me to random select ), I know my opponent is shit so I loosen up a bit and played recklessly (iirc i didnt even record the full match lol)… my vids can be divided into 2 i guess, one kind is against opponents i think are good so i play more seriously, and the other kind just for the lulz (chances for me to try unsafe shit is i this kind of vids)…

Anyway thanks for everyone’s feedback… i think i’ll focus more on player matches vids instead of g2 vids because the results are way better (especially against a player who kept using the same character)

@stokers - yeah i guess it was intentional, im not too comfortable with mixing up a f.mk after a cr.lp/lk that much since against ryu, you know how easy i can eat a shoryu trying to f.mk like that… oh and yeah fuck the lag

will try to improve my gameplay in future vids.

More vids, i tried to improve from yesterday by not pressing buttons so much but at times i felt like something is wrong with my buttons, like when I pressed them, nothing happened… still, might be my execution.

I fought: Viper, Boxer, Chun, Guile, Honda, Claw, Sim, Rufus, Dictator and Ryu.(not in that order)

I got owned by Rufus, didnt play the matches right BUT later when I wasnt recording my matches(battery died), I recalled the stuff I should do in the matchup and got better and beat the Rufus(in the 8th vid) rather consistently (won 3 out of the next 4 matches)… I still accept any kinds of feedback though.

j.lp is indeed good against rufus.

Thank you hfz!! I go watch rite now!!
I played a bunch of DP spammers today… felt like shit!

Has anyone been watching those Alex Valle tutorial/guide videos? I honestly didn’t think it would be helpful since I knew a general sense of what he was talking about, but it kinda brought a little insight on my game and how I play Abel. So today, I thought I’d go play online to test a theory why I struggle sometimes, whether it be at the arcades or at casuals. I go on XBL and beat some not so good players and trying to implement some new mixups to my game, and I stumble upon Mr. SNK, who I think is a well known Honda player from AZ. Long story short, he whips me and almost all his moves were on the ground and I was literally stumped how to get near him. After that, I start thinking that I should up my footsies game and start playing games without jumping forward, even if my opponent gives me opportunities to jump in.

I lose to people I probably would beat, but it starts to help my game. I start to notice patterns more easily and how much my AA game sucks. Couple of more matches, I start distancing myself out, choosing when to AA and when to just block (cause sometimes your AA whiffs or gets CH’d, so sometimes you just need to sit your ass down), and other stuff. I didn’t know it was going to be that difficult for me to play a matchup without jumping forward cause it literally felt like I was starting over again. I play MrSNK again and I beat him without jumping and playing straight footsies. I’m not bragging that I beat him or anything, I’m just trying to say it did teach me a lesson.

Here are the clips: http://www.justin.tv/gytnews/all
There are Combofiend matches in there as well, IIRC, against Rufus, Gen, Sagat, and some others. His team is Team No Blocking (w/ Alex Valle)

Here’s a couple more vids

He beat me 10-0 :frowning:
notes to self: AA Gief better
