A.I.M. Labs: M.O.D.O.K. Video Thread

Thanks again for all the support. MODOK shield gets me some nice setups with Thor, but I never get the chance to do much jamming bomb stuff on stream unless my opponent gives me enough breathing room (which is not very much at all, usually).

yeah thanks guys. Combo choices depend on the situation. I haven’t rewatched the matches but If i didn’t do more damage with Modok or jammed, it was because I was in a situation where I couldn’t with my team. That combo is a modifier for when I used my ground bounce earlier. Me and The Flush both are avid lovers and abusers of jamming bomb lol.

Congrats Royal Flush and Motempest, I really enjoyed watching the streams and getting to see you make other top players sweat.

I do have a criticism though - I’m not sure if the cube combos are always necessary. There were many times where simpler combos that didn’t involve cubes could have been done to finish the opponent. Especially since a lot of cube combos require stricter timing and spacing which is hard to do under pressure.

Of all the cube combos I saw, pretty much all of them were dropped and the ones that didn’t get dropped didn’t do any more damage than a basic combo.

Whatever happened to the good ol’ launch, MHS, (dash), slime, launch, MMS, slime (psionic blast) HBR? I hate to say it but if we replaced every combo that was done on stream with this one, I can guarantee this combo would have more damage (and possible victories) overall.

That’s not to say that you guys should stop trying to pull of crazy cube combos, just that I think maybe you’ve dived in to the deep-end without exploring safe, easy and reliable alternatives.

But again, I’m still a huge fan of both you guys and will watch every stream you play in. Keep it up

the relaunch you mention is very simple and i’m sure we all go back to using that when times get tough, but is there anyway to optmize that for more damage (without assists)?>

well actually I don’t know that combo haha. My complicated one is my bread and butter, and I almost never drop it (I did because im stubborn and sometimes refused to double tap inputs, which I should always do since I normally practice on a boob tube and all tourneys out here are run on Asus monitors). It takes you from corner to corner and does over a mil with both assists avail for the combo and allows for a guaranteed jam given with either assist if only (1) is available. It’s much better than the standard b&b that I see most people use being that it gives you cubes and I try to fully utilize them in combos/setups and it did better/equal damage than that b&b when I tested way back when.

If I had the recoding equipment I would show you all some more advanced tactics and strategies with Modok. Olaf is enlisting me to help write and record the MODOK SRK guide, so i’ll be able to elaborate a little more on the method to my madness.

Oh yeah, just rewatched some of the stream. Me vs IC. Ruin is at the end of part 1 of the archive if anybody’s interested. Man, some great matches I missed while I was preoccupied during the tourney.

Sounds good, do you have a mobile phone you might be able to record the combo with perhaps?

Here you go:

dope. i really need to hit the lab with cap/modok and start getting creative.

There alittle bit of MODOK in the recent Bums house vids http://www.twitch.tv/bum1six3

I havent looked through the entire thing, but Dire has a MODOK team he uses that puts in some work.

I have been in the lab a little bit trying to find an effective way to continue combos off of front and back throws and I figured out a couple ones with captain america shield slash! The one with doom beam is super easy but I’ve been sticking to hidden missiles. Anyway. here they are

This first one is off of a forward throw. you need to dash immediately after the throw to get the otg and shield to connect, but it works on everyone. I’ve been going for S when the shield returns but I’m wondering if I could somehow link a f+H somewhere in this combo… anyone care to help me figure out how to optimize it? Maybe i should try air dash S, L cube, f+H after the shield returns my opponent? I don’t know

I want to believe this one is pretty optimized. Not sure how i could extend this. Its off a back throw and much easier to do than the first.

also, in the corner, you can simply do throw, slime+shield, analyze cube L x2 back dash f+H etc. However, this does not work on she hulk and I dont know why. for smaller characters u need to back dash before OTG as well.

jm sure cameos count right? Nos u are sick

Apparently MODOK players can play as anyone and get those TAC combos. I think it’s in our genes.

here are some assistless combos I just posted in the other thread. Nothing fancy, just stuff that I can fall back on as dependable bnbs

I think you can go for those jump addf to get closer and do the cr.M fly cancel addf S? I usually do the basic relaunch combos. Jump addf cr. M, adf m, S, or you can omit adf M bc ur close already. I believe it gets them from corner to corner and starts corner combos. You can just do dash instead of jump addf. It might be easier and faster actually. that’s my basic throw/bnb combo.

your mind is somewhere else. i can’t fathom what your thought process is when you design these combos with assists… so optimized.

That combo is so difficult to do, can barely get the crazy legs in to j.H part down. Never stop sharing what you find Nos, you’ve already given us (me) so much to work with already.

Nos I think your buddy called Marvel players lazy, personally I think you sir are just a mutant. Was that 5 minutes again

Interesting combo, to say the least o_O. How did you manage to spike with j.S without launching the opponent? That just blew my mind.

He did launch him. Iron Man never exited the “launched” state, so the Air Combo Ender was still available.
