wasnt there this thing srk dudes use to do, like they would all go hit up a site, and troll the fuck out of the forum in masses. lol! i remember that being done a couple times, and then everyone was told to stop that shit. i never participated though.
gaia online
i missed out
but the most epic thread was one called: “All asians eat glasses” and it went on for dozens of pages with people arguing back and forth.
it was started by SAM, but he’s no longer around. Some other guy posing as him has been trolling these forums recently, but its not the same dude sadly.
right on. good shit. i still think dark prince vs clockwork was some mad major hype and drama, that could go down in srk history. im reading through it again now. i forgot the whole someone keying ducs car and putting sugar in his tank. daaaaamn!
I remember coming on SRK around 03 looking for any info on the" forbidden technique" of roll canceling in CVS2 lol. Have stayed ever since I hang with the 3S kids
This place really is like High School in that respect. Each game has it’s own followers and there are grudges, team camaraderie, regional factions, ethnic bias. It’s great to relive youthful ambitions through partaking in the precipitation of OG childhoods and remembrances onto the next generation of…the “hardcore”. I’m glad I’ve been around to watch it happen. Everything from anticipating the advent of a new game to watching the ushering of a new generation of elites as they slowly got better and better, the translation of old foundational knowledge into newer more ADD tactics of younger players has created a great symphony of play styles that range from extreme turtling to rape style and everything in between. The greatest thing was watching plays styles develop and evolve throughout the last ten years. I’ve learned a lot and it’s made for a more enjoyable experience when playing now.
Utilizing the internet to transmit information about strats allowed old, local, cliche strategy’s to bare new and interesting styles…and when welded together pokemon style, led to newer and even more interesting(and esoteric) “niche” styles. Shit was great mang.
The diversification of the styles throughout the life of SRK has been a great show to watch.
I’ve been on this site almost 5 years now. It’s hard to believe. They just went by. This board has been great.
Its been this long?! Wow!
I remember joining SRK in Aug 2000 after finding out about tournaments at Gametime Family Fun Center in Alexandria, VA. Prior to that, I was a huge Capcom/Japanese fighting game aficionado, collecting all the strategy guides for SF. One guide stood out among the rest pertaining to learning SF, the SFA2 Versus Guide. I didn’t realize purchasing that book would be a catalyst for me entering tournaments and getting to know alot of people I never would’ve imagined ever knowing.
Hard to believe I joined this forum almost 10 years ago.
I met alot of people over the past 10 years, and began alot of friendships that I would’ve never imagined having if I didn’t have an unhealthy obsession for Alpha 2. If I started listing people, I’d feel bad if I forgot someone so maybe for another thread, or I’ll try and make it Evo and get some photos lol since I might be moving to WC soon.
IVE BEEN LURKING SINCE 1988!!!
no but i joined to build arcade sticks in 06
now i just check general discussion because the threads are more interesting than digg or cracked
24 recaps.
Except I don’t really believe it. I’d say half of the people here who said they lurked actually did it.
The Legends of Lore thread.
Somehow I got caught up in this thread and it was a matchmaking thread for Michigan. I’ve never been to Michigan nor do I ever plan to, yet here I was, along with some other random GDers listening to this guy and his bro, claiming they could own anybody and everybody in any fighter.
how time flies…
blech, since early 2003, still remember my first post,
Me: “So just because I go to gamefaqs makes me a ***?”
“Yes.”
good times, though “srk haters” is still the gold standard of threads imo, that thread had everything, along with a twist ending
This place has stood the test of time…
That shit was amazing, especially once their mom started posting on here.
Lurking status since 2007 but joined this year… cant wait for the next decade to start cuz this goes down as one of the most horrible decades ever.
truthfully i didn’t. I just jumped right on in. If I’m not mistaken my first thread was the “Virtua Fighter 4 is better than tekken” thread. I cant remember the details of the exact name.
I would say that that is an extremely generous estimate.
It’s been almost three years of SRK for me and I keep hearing stories from friends of mine who joined earlier. I looked at this forum once in 2001 when I was only thirteen years old, and I distinctly remember shaking my head and saying “nah, that place is way too hardcore for me. I can’t even do Ryu’s uppercut yet!”
sup sup koopy. banning is the best way to make friends. :lovin:
Y2K checking in.
I can’t believe I was just getting used to my 20’s when i joined.
actually I was recruited by ink to mod. I was a FNET refugee. I lurked at SRK prior to 2000 but mainly stayed at FNET. I moved over to SRK after THE FALL.
SRK quickly became home.

wowsers
I still hate you all.
I didn’t lurk, ever. I found SRK and joined that day. I then went on to make a handful of embarassing threads. I had no idea SRK existed before the day I registered. Let me know if I’d have more cred if I said I did, so I can edit my post.
Definitely need more APEX.
I learned how to AHVB here.
