I joined srk during the best year I’ve had so far in my life. It was the same year I got our of the Army and had a taste of unmilitary freedom. It was the year I got into Street Fighter 3s and wanted to relive being a kid at an arcade again and play against some good players. I stumbled upon srk and joined. I met a lot of Minnesota peeps through this site and had some good games. The forum was entertaining, and there were a diverse group of people at the time that make this community some what interesting. Though with the good there was bad, and it was very entertaining reading about East Coast vs. West Coast and this kid(dark prince I think) was acting a fool. I learned about pick up artists and read some wannabe players bragging about how many girls he can pick up. Later Son of Them All got a dose of reality and was done for. Though for me, in 08 was a complete 180 as shit hit the fan for me, lost interest in playing 3s and for the most part became a lurker. When word got out about SF4 I started to lurk more and then like many people was let down when the game was released. Overall for these few short years I’ve been a member on here, it’s been fun for the most part and I might stick around a little longer.

That’s why I wish old threads and posts were archived, because then I could read some progression. I’ve most definitely, completely changed. I don’t even really look the same.
Just to clarify yeah SONY was a big deal and brought the lols through flame wars and catch phrases but he wasn’t truly OG as far as belonging on that list Muff posted, he didn’t come around til like 03/04-ish (maybe even later?) so I wouldn’t put him up there with Evenflow80 who had already came and gone by the time SONY even showed up. That said, the SONY LEGEND saga caused infinitely more raucous and was more memorable than Evenflow’s.
If this were Dragonball I’d say Evenflow was Pilaf (the OG villain) but SONY was Freeza (not OG, but more memorable).
I also miss those little moments that happened that no one really remembers. Like when that dude posted a picture of some skuzzy looking broad sucking his dick while he was wearing a condom.
SRK gave me a chance to meet with Socal Garou/SNK guys, and Socal doujin guys. So even though I don’t much like the most of the admin staff, I guess I owe SRK one. This place used to be pretty shitty and filled with jerks, but it’s gotten a lot better since RoninChaos and Koop came into place. Keep up the good work.
I joined in '06. Man, I still remember my naivety regarding a post I made on GameFAQS about Alpha 3. I got SFA3 and I didn’t really know much about it, so I made a comment about how V-ism is the worst possible -ism (which is completely not true btw). Well as you could imagine, I got flamed all to hell, but within that flame war, was someone who had mentioned a website I’ve never heard of… shoryuken.com. So I go on to see what they’re fussing about. Completely changed my conception of fighting games. I had no idea people took them so seriously to the point of competitions and analysis and matchups. I’ve been taking fighting games seriously since. Here’s to another 10.

10 years ago I thought I would never stop posting here, but as time goes by interests change. I’m still an avid gamer, but largely due to the lack of new games from Capcom my interest in fighting games just dwindled down to nothing. I still pull out the joystick every once and a while and play the classics that got me into fighting games. but by the time SF4 came out I really could care less. I still occasionally see old vets, and through pure luck ended up becoming friends with SMB and Achan. The irony of this relationship being that I don’t think we have ever played fighting games together, but rather defer to drink and play board games…

i’m an 09’er but I can not thank this site enough. For 6 months I was not improving in SF4 and I was about to quit. Then I found this site and it was like “Heaven for SF4” :lol:. In just the 2-3 months I have been here my game has improved in huge leaps. I win more games now online cuz of the combos I found on this site, and general information about my main. I hope that as time goes by I still will have the same feeling for this community and SF4. I hope by SSF4 I can be good but that might just not happen. Thanks once again SRK and the community for all you have done and keep it comin :tup:
