A DECADE OF SRK...time to reflect

Man, I’ve been here for a long ass time. This is the only website I’ve stayed at for that long.

I joined on 03-20-2001. I never lurked here. I had something to ask in the Cvs2 strategy section and jumped right into the fray. My very first argument was with Aoishi2AL over something to do with Britney Spears. I remember it like it was yesterday.

I was never a true F.Net refugee. I registered here first, then over at F.Net with cka and the crew.

Back then, in GD, it was all about Zero, akumachan, Ultros, Chuji, Brandon Lee, CWFPresidentAri, Acesmith5, T.O.D.E., Nathan Summers, Yushiro, Jinsogood, HyperViperSniper, SpiderOptix, Swordsman, Javi, Million, Kelomaniac etc. That was the original, old generation of GD.

Most of the old timers should remember how much Zero, Brandon Lee, and akumachan used to dominate this place. People would come on here and make threads specifically about akumachan and how much they love/hated or wanted to marry/kill her, for no reason other than she was akumachan. Everyone in general was a lot more brutal back then, but Zero was the Adam Warlock/RandomNigga of that generation. (“You’re an idiot.”) Brandon Lee used to be the Jesus of this forum?universally liked all around, by everyone.

That generation gave way to a new crop of well-knowns who took on the roles of the old guard.

It’s funny how there’s always a succession of forum punching bags to take each others place. From SonyLegend to Evenflow80 to genshir0, this place wouldn’t be the same without them.

I can’t do any shout outs because it would take forever and I’d miss some people.

So, 10 years.

Yeah, this place used to be pretty wild. I still say that 2006 was the most like the original wild days of GD and we’ve yet to top it.

Been here for a while, I think late 2002 or 2003. Occassional poster for the most part.

Always loved how even way back when, people would have to fight to win arguments. You can’t really browbeat/annoy people into giving up their arguments here, you’d have to actually prove you had a point to do something. Awesome.

Not to mention the fact that the people are relatively cool, it’s not just about obsessing about the latest fighting games, the oddball news, the great and sometimes very personal stories, the communal feeling, especially amongst the regulars (and then especially those that meet up), and you’ve got a great website. Wish I could drop by in person to meet all of you someday.

I’m stuck with this one for a while since Wiz had to do something custom to get it to work. I don’t even think I could replace it from the control panel if I tried.

Was it the mandarin? The only avatar I can remember that stood out aside from this one was the one with the black dude choking the blonde from behind, lol. I may go back to that one some day.

Man, that Final Round was the shit. I’ll never forget cruisin’ around with you like Fast and the Furious going to get foodand then me and Slide posting from Ronin’s computer saying we infiltrated the Whitey Stronghold, lol. He said he distracted us with some Hennessey. Someone, I think it was AdverseSolutions, came in the thread and posted, “In before rampaging negroes”, lmao.

It’s a shame more people from GD don’t come out to tournaments like that.

I just keep remembering Ronin’s face when me and Warlock came up to the table smelling to high hell of dank all like, :smokin:

Studio Traffic was the most memorable thread for me. It was as if the floor had give way from underneath the forums and everything was burning. It was fun.

I’ve changed a lot over the years. The appeal early on was that we were all SF players and young men, it felt fresh and raw early on.

I need to prove less and need less attention than I did before. That’s the difference in my post.

Personally so much has changed that it would be a waste to type it all. Just like my life, it’s been good and it’s been bad, when looking back at it again, it’s always been good.

The best thing about the forums is that there is always someone in SRK to prove me wrong. I’ve been wrong about a lot of things overtime and learning this improved my life always.

Been here since late 2008 so im pretty much a newbie, but I have had a love of fighting games since I was a kid. Joined this site after lurking for a few months and check it every other day. During finals Ive had to ban myself from coming to the site just so I could get some work done, lol.

Even though i havent been here for as long as many others, I appreciate all the laughs and strats. My game has improved so much in such a short time and I hope to be a long time member for years to come.

To another 10 years!!!

6 damn years on this site. Damn SRK. Going through this thread reminds me of things. In fact, I don’t even remember how the fuck I even got on this site. I think I was linked from another site, lurked late Dec '03, then signed up next month because of all the crazy shit going on and it was funny.

Man I feel old now. I thought I Joined before 2001 but it’s be so long I can’t remember when. Being apart of this community has changed my life over the past 9 years. I’ve made a lot of friends over the years going to tournaments and competing against people in and out of my region. Forming friendships online and meeting people offline for games or just to chill and talk about life. My early years on SRK was only focused on promoting my tournaments and building a scene in the ATL and around the southeast.

My goal was to bring our region (SouthEast)closer as a community since we was highly over looked back in the day. I ran monthly tournaments in atlanta and it was only when I came to srk when I found out about te rest of the players in th SE that enjoyed the same hobby as I did. I ran a city wide tourament every year called final round where all of the best players use to attend to see who was the best of the ATL. Well once I got on srk that went from the best in the ATL to the best in the Southeast as everyone in the southeast made final round their regions major tournament of the year.

Now Final Round is a staple in this community tournaments every year and I would like to thank SRK for being heart of the Fighting game community for 10 years strong. FR wouldn’t be as popular as it is today if it wasn’t for the community that formed on this website. Before this site we weren’t a community imo. We was just a bunch of people that played the same game, but we didn’t share info or really didn’t socialize like we do now. With SRK we went from being players from different parts of the usa with the same hobby into being a world wide community of brothers and sisters that enjoy the same hobby.

Some of my friends I have today I know I would have never met if I wasn’t on srk or through final round. People like MummyB, Koop, Ronin chaos, and countless more peeps i’ve met and became friends with over the years through SRK have shaped my life over the past 9 years. From nyc to miami. From the ATL to cali and from Hawaii to japan I have friends all over the globe thanks to SRK. Some of you may know me as that crazy hawks fan in the nba thread or the crazy falcons fan in the nfl thread, but i’ve always been a fan of our community the most!

Here’s to the next 10 great years to come!
