A DECADE OF SRK...time to reflect

Top 10 ten SRK moments in 2009?.. anyone?

This is like one of the fake ‘comments’ you see in those ‘work from home’ scams or ‘miracle weight loss’ programs. I smell bot.

javi used to be a real motherfucker back in the day…
oh and spideroptix and TM people changed the game.

ouro, post under your original s/n

It’s hard to believe it has been 10 years since this site started. I found SRK via Fighters.net, which I found through Drunkengameplayer, MrMorph, Zor, BosshogX, and all of the other Savannah peeps (who’s online handles I’ve now forgotten) that used to play Street Fighter & Tekken every day at Oglethorpe Mall. Not sure if any of those guys are still around; I haven’t spoken to them in years, but we had some good times back then. As far as SRKGD goes, so many great stories, threads, and interesting people. I think Shin Chuji/Strongrrr’s death & resurrection will always be my fondest memory here. But there are many others, too. Like how bad Sir Wilson got flamed, JaHa’s Pimpology thread, and pretty much anything posted back in the day by Adept, Zero , or akumachan. I’ve been on and off over the years but I’m always glad to see this place is still around.

Happy 10th Anniversary SRK!

Who could ever forget Geese is Ratio 6?

OC

most of the people that matter are gone.

I can’t believe I’ve been a member of this site for so long. Feels like it was only yesterday that I was been called a bitch for not knowing the old srk.

So how many of you have knocked up your wives/gfs since I’ve been away? Did it make their vaginas bigger like comedians always joke about or are they still pre-baby tight?

What happened to the marvel player from Florida that free loaded off of people and stole all that shit from them? Think his sn here was mixup?

I just found out the news about Dasrik. Ah… i can’t even post anything right now after knowing what happened… damn. Just damn…

It’s hard to believe that this much time has passed. After all these years, I still think this is the funniest forum on the internet.

One of my earliest memories about this site, other than reading pages of IRC chats between all the OGs planning the site, is getting SRK hosted on GXNetwork…where I worked at the time (this was pre-SRK being hosted on its own)…and every 2 hours having to bitch at co-workers because the machine kept going down. Seriously. SRK was an instant hit, causing all kinds of traffic issues and breaking records for the network. It didn’t help that someone kept kicking the RJ45 out of the back of the machine.

Then one day the company decided hosting sites wasn’t their thing anymore and dropped everyone without any warning. There was a lot of “WTF with this shit” and “These are friends, you should have fucking warned me” and “This is fucking SRK not Bobbie’s Geocities site about how cool Ken is” flying outta my mouth that night. Thinking about it now, I probably should’ve been fired for all that. I guess that was also my worst memory: my one big contribution winding up being a big pain in the ass. Hrm.

The big “Evo is moving to console OMG” debate(s) and the 3S community pushing their game into the mainstream…and the Alpha 3 community kind of fizzling down to one dedicated man are also highlights that I can think of off the top of my head. Damn. 10 years? We were just babies during the AGSF2 into SRK era…now we’re old men. >:P

shit fighters.net. i almost forgot about that place! Yeah 10 years seems crazy…i found srk cause a friend of mine linked me to some alpha 3 vids of a japanese tourny. vega vs zangief and sakura vs zangief. Didn’t really post that much at the start, but over the years i remember some epic flame wars and some of the funniest shit that happened on the boards. I’ve been around a ton of forums over the years, but this one is always going to be the best.

oh and about join date, it’s so funny when i see people from like 02 and 03 chripping on 08s and 09s cause i remember the day when they were getting shit for their join date.

I always wonder what happened to SpacLock and ESCPlan. They were sooooooo kewwwwll! OMG!

No really though…

I miss my main men: Lime Green Pata…, Orange Cat, Ronin Chaos, Running (rising?) Uppercut, that one dude that was seriously a pedophile, and many, many more.

There was a pretty large span of time where nothing really mattered here. Nothing new, really. And when there WAS something new it was often horrible. I feel the point of this site has stopped being a center of the fighting game community but an additional money making hub. Pretty pathetic, really.

Isomniac was the pedo right? He then got a job teaching kids.

fighters.net was a great site.

My observation, no matter who hates whom, who is sheisting on whom…

no matter how unpopular the games are; how damaged the scene was; how shitty the games…

no matter how much the japanese are owning the west; how involved the west is in making the new games…

no matter where the fight is, no matter who is fighting, SRK has been there in the middle, the support pilar… dedicated and loyal, it has been the only thing i can rely on in keeping this scene afloat.

SRK has been the pulse of the fighting game scenes.

He’s teaching kids?

SERIOUSLY?

DEAR LORD

You have premium membership, man

Wow, hard to believe that next month I will have been a member of this forum for six years. And I haven’t been around as long as some of you guys. I came here for help with Marvel and now I don’t really play fighting games anymore (too much time to put in). I come here almost every day to lurk and read funny responses to news tragedies, etc. When I think about it, over the past six years this site may very well have been the most consistent and stable thing in my life.

Yikes…

Feel kinda weird since I was another one of those kids who joined up in 2009. Really wish I got into fighters more as a kid, but living in a small town (and now going to a small college  ) where I have to break my back to get some friends to play a few rounds of SF4/3S didn’t help that. I used to play online FPSs, but when I got interested in fighters in 2008 and found out about SRK.com, I was amazing to see how tight the community was. Big events like EVO and smaller regional tourneys sounded crazy fun, I mean you can’t get that kinda hype off of sitting around playing FPSs online.

Congrats SRK on hitting a healthy 10 years. I’m really thankful to Mr Wizard and the rest of the staff for keeping this forum up and running. It sounds like its been a big help in keep the community strong, and I know at least for me it’s been a huge help for those who want to join that community as well.

lol wish i had my old av with the truth about the ahvb…
