I never implied it was easy, I just outlined a reasonable strategy. Clearly Hawk has to work a lot harder than Guile to win this matchup.
oh okay. that makes it sound easy to me
hittin him with cr.rh out of booms and low forward is not easy. low forward beats hawks st.rh too.
This maybe my inexperience, but I’m seem to get Hawk close standing roundhouse at the WORST times, when I simply want to poke with the far version. I think the close version triggers way too soon. It’s become so bad that I’m using standing forward kick instead (which is a pretty good poke itself). Anyone else run into this issue?
I have the same problem with st. strong. Would have been nice to have some A3-esque controllable limbs
Not sure if that is what you mean, but the first game where Sim’s attacks would vary depending on the direction of the stick was ST (back + attack= CPS1/super close version, towards + attack = CPS1/super far version).
I know, but he’s the only one with that ability. But apparently some people hated limb control enough to play inferior Old Sim (sort of like how I hate N. Ryu’s dp so much that I almost only play O. Ryu in vanilla ST)
The strong or fierce 360 won’t grab? If they also work, I’m pretty certain you’re looking at one of his ToD combos.
Well…okay…pseudo-combo…since it ends with a throw.
Now to have a little fun…
So…anybody wanna give any advice on how in the world T. Hawk could possibly beat Cammy? I haven’t seen any commentary anywhere that says that this matchup isn’t still the most horridly unbalanced fight outside of Akuma vs. Zangief in vanilla ST. Is that still the case?
cammy is more winnable by a lot compared to guile or DJ…block alot. cr jab, footsies, jump cross up splash into choke. …hawk dp is good but not hawk dive
Ah…but you didn’t address the one tactic that made this a “FOR FREE!!!” win for Cammy.
Cammy sits and sticks out crouching forward when T. Hawk comes into range. When he jumps…Cannon Spike! Wash, rinse, repeat. The splash can’t beat a well-timed Cannon Spike…nor should it ever be allowed to, IMHO.
Does he have any normals that beat crouching forward reliably? A jab Thunderstrike is not worth putting your hopes on here because if you miss just one, she can easily dizzy you without a jump in thanks to her quick-recovering close standing fierce allowing you to link almost any regular move after it…and then end that combo with a Cannon Drill.
One piece of advice I can give for fighting Guile with Hawk, is that you gotta do your guaranteed 100% damage when you get the opportunity.
Too many times, I get knocked down, in the corner say, but I don’t die. Most often this is because people safe jump in, low jab -> 360, but I took the first two hits to keep my charge, and flashkick the 360 attempt. This should never work; if you see the jump jab low jab hit, you must hit confirm into a dragon punch. If you do this, you’ll automatically do 100% damage in this situation every time. This is so important.
Actually maybe its easier to do safe jump jab-> low jab, stand jab -> (dragon punch / 360 depending on hit or block)
Anyone else having trouble hitting Cammy? Not referring to the matchup…just not being able to land hits when they should.
I played a lot this last weekend and I swear more stuff than just jumping jabs were missing and she seemed impossible to 360 after ticks…I understand my timing may have been off for a few but I am pretty reliable with it and I rarely landed one on her.
On a side note I am also getting something with Guile. I do a Rising Hawk while he is in air and we just slide together in mid air and no hit, land I get thrown. This has not happened once with any other character to this point, anyone else seeing this?
Other than that I can say I do like the new Hawk. Been doing well online for the most part…well when I don’t spaz out since I have a reg controller…stupid custom stick and it’s outright hatred of me :(.
the lack of t.hawk love srk has is dissapointing
one of the most intimidating things you can do with hawk is walk forward. i cant tell you how many times ive started the match walking forward and people FREAK out. hawk is a scary bastard when hes walking in on you (come on would you want some 6.7 fucking dude walking toward you?) and often you can score a fat st.rh when you do walk forward since people will just try and jump away frantically.
Hrmmm is there a list of what characters get hit twice by his fierce DP? I noticed that on some characters you only get 1 hit out of it, but on others you get both hits for ALOT of damage. I dunno if anyone made such list for original ST? The fierce DP with one hit does less than the jab version, so I’d genuinely like to know–especially when it comes to cross up combos.
This match is pretty tough, it is really a test of patience. Margalis has the strat pretty much down. Trade or beat out the booms with standing RH. It trades in Hawks favor, if this wors he will fall back to the cr. FWD and you can hit that with forward jab or crouching RH or jab DP that shit. If you get the timing right you can occasionally beat the flash kick or any of Guiles’ jumping attacks with jumping jab. If you get the jumping jab in the air, mix up on landing, watch out for stored flash kick. If you get the jab jump in mix up with cr. jab, jab, Strong, or jab, -> 360 mix up. If you get the knock down, bait the Flash Kick, -> 360, or DP or if too far, crouching strong. if you can get the cross up splash on wake up you can do the TOD combos or cross up splash tick -> 360.
It is a really tough match and you have to break down the Guile player and second guess his options.
Good pokes to stuff shit with, Standing RH (booms), standing Strong booms and random standing BS), crouching strong (counter missed stuff like far Flash Kicks, at the end of blocked poke strings etc) , crouching RH (for that crouching froward).
Margalis: Accept my friend request. (NapkinSchematic, (Hammer Frenzy F13)
I am now your friend HammerFrenzy. Hopefully the stick I ordered will come in soon, getting sick of playing on this terrible pad.
Guile’s new roundhouse flashkick can hit you if you do a low roundhouse and whiff on the first hit. Not sure if this can be done on reaction or if the person I was playing against was just lucky. If it can be done on reaction then that sucks, as trading or beating low forward with low roundhouse becomes much more dangerous.
I did the combo of crossup bodysplash, MK, HP upper, and it hits Balrog, T.Hawk, E.Honda, Fei Long, Blanka, Zangeif, Dhalsim, Cammy, and Sagat for both hits of the upper every time. Ryu, Ken, Akuma, and Chun get hit twice if they are crouching, and otherwise get hit only once. Deejay and M.Bison get hit once only if they are standing, otherwise they get enough time to block the uppercut, and Guile is the odd man out, getting hit twice if he’s standing, but not at all if crouching.
anyone in here who mains t.hawk like me should add my xbl account so we can get some mirror matches sometime.
Grid I’ll add ya, but out for a bit of time as my account seems to think I did not purchase SF2THD when trying to play it, but says I own it and wont let me re-buy it.
Obviously Microsoft has attributed this to user error…
I’ll add you Grid. I Main T.Hawk and Fei right now.
