WTF? So you think that ST Hawk can time a safejump to land outside Oichio range, but that R.Hawk can’t do the same? Do you think that R.Hawk’s Typhoon range was nerfed? Cuz it wasn’t.
Blitzu, answer me seriously, are you trying to become the dumbest poster on this site on purpose or are you truly this moronic?
Find me the part where I say, or even imply, that R.Hawk’s command throw range was shortened. Here’s what I said, and I’ll spell it out for you, read the words slowly. Slowly, carefully, don’t leap to conclusions like you always do.
N.Hawk and O.Hawk off of a safe jump, in ST, had 100% probability to inflict damage against Honda.
Off of a safe jump in HDR, R.Hawk doesn’t have guaranteed damage, he only has guessing games. Why? Because Hawk’s command throw cannot be negative edged and will lose to reversal attacks.
Is that clear enough for you?
N.Hawk and O.Hawk have a perfect sequence against Honda in ST off of a safe jump.
R.Hawk only has guessing games in HDR off of a safe jump against Honda.
Discovered something interesting tonight in Training mode. Nothing epic, just interesting.
I was working on mixing up ticks with Honda as my dummy. While going to crouching strong or forward into 360, I couldn’t connect. I tried it again and again…nothing. Even his Super when executed immediately out of the tick wouldn’t work! I tried against every other member of the cast, with no issues. Went back to Honda, tried for ten minutes straight (felt like an eternity), and the only way I was getting medium tick anything into any kind of command throw was when I used the “walk forward for a split second” input window to inch forward and get it. Not that you’d ever really want to be ticking Honda in such a fashion, but a “properly” executed crouching strong or forward into 360, even as deep as you can possibly get, does not work on him. News to me.
Another bit to note…Honda is also the only character you can cross up by walking under with Hawk’s fierce grab when the fat man is cornered.
No you can walk under them (and for example crossup DP them) when you have the right distance to the corner while doing the fierce grab. I don’t know if it works with every character but I did it to Guile just recently in training mode.
Ah, cool; I was just testing at midscreen and in the far corner. Could actually be useful against Honda once in awhile, since that spacing is much easier to predict and he wouldn’t expect it. Think I just felt like choking the bastard
lol Dude, he may have had some questionable changes, but he’s not garbage. He just feels…unfinished, and that is tragic. Still, even in his current state, he can still beast, even against the best. (Unless that player is maining a patient Honda =P)
Also, while I don’t think Hawk is garbage, he could definitely use a boost. I can’t figure out what I would do, but I feel like he has no options if he’s getting zoned out. Hawk Dive is nice, but a lot of people can just AA anyway.
You know, dream hawk for me would be old hawk normals with super and a dp that could hit low forwards. Be totally 100% fine with that and the old dive. A dp that had more vertical range below him would be great.
Eh, not really. Combined with the Dive, good ground and air normals, and his relatively fast walk speed, Hawk isn’t really that easy to keep out. Just be sly.
Damn T. Hawk fanboy /jk… less theory fighter more strats
1.Does anyone know what meaty crouching mk can be linked into, and is jumping jab an ambiguous crossup?
2.Does button strength alter typhoon range?
3.Possible Super Motions(I did one that was an extremely crazy motion and still got the super but I cant replicate 100%, its stupid easy on a stick though… I’ll play around with it a little more though)
4. How to get in on a good Ken?
Sorry for all of the questions but T. Hawk is somewhat interesting to play and I might pick him a little more often… he’s like a better version of Zangief(I enjoy playing him alot maybe I’ll like Hawk lol)
That’s two questions. If you are close enough you could tag a standing jab then a dragon punch off of a meaty cr.mk. But why go with a meaty attack with Hawk? Safe jump is the better option always. On a rare occasion I’ll go for meaty standing medium kick into command throw or meaty standing medium kick into super.
Jumping jab is a terrible option for crossing someone up with when you have j.d+fierce (the splash). The only time I ever use cross up jab is for a Honda specific setup in the corner and getting Honda in the corner is usually impossible anyways. Cross up with the splash every time. Every time. Don’t bother with jumping medium kick or anything else. Splash is high damage and extremely high dizzy and has an enormous active hitbox.
All three punch strengths have the same range.
Dragon punch him through fireballs. Bait his dragon punches then knock him down with your own dragon punch. I don’t use the dive in this match ever.
Cr.:mk: can be linked into a St.:lp:. It doesn’t need to be a meaty either. I use this against Blanka A LOT when he’s cornered, since trying to safe jump a good Blanka will almost always result in him knocking you down, and if he reversals your meaty Cr.:mk:, that’s a free walk-up Typhoon. Other than that, its good too use Cr.:mk:, St.:lp: as a tick after cross-up since a lot of players won’t expect it (or know its even possible).
And as VF4 said, use the Fierce Splash as a cross-up.
No.
For tickings I usually do :hcb:, :hcb::ub:+:p:.
For a walk-up Super I do :hcbx2, :r:+:p:. Reason being is not only does it end in forward, but you can kinda “store” the Super for a split second and it’ll still come out. There’s different methods to get creative with this but I usually do it after a blocked/hit Dive. Do the two :hcb:'s right after your opponent has been hit or blocked the Dive, and hold forward and press punch. I’ll get a video up soon if you need a demonstration.

Might not be the best example, but other than the missed walk-up Typhoons, I feel I did okay.
IMO Gief has a slightly stronger ground game than Hawk (especially against Ken and Ryu), but Hawk’s air game just dominates Gief. Hawk also has the best jump in the game IMO.
Glad too see you’re considering joining the few of us that play Hawk.
True. I guess I was only thinking of the case when Hawk is a full screen away. I have trouble getting in from there as Hawk and Headbutt most attempts to get in as Boxer.
