720s FTW! (T-Hawk thread)

heres my names for it

DP: Face upper
Dive: Face Plant
SPD: Face Slam

This is the reason i like t hawk. You he is one bad ass mofo cuz he does all this power attacks using his FACE. Like those biker dudes that open beer bottles with their teeth, when you see hawk in action busting a face upper, you are gonna wan tot back off. When I play hawk now, ever time i execute a upper cut I yell out loud FACE UPPER!!!. I now for sure that alone upped my game ten fold.

mexican typhoon is not the proper name for it. i dunno why people think that. storm hammer. storm hammer. storm hammer. storm hammer.

I thought it was called ultra Mexican typhoon spin slam of death

Why am I getting deja vu? Didn’t we already cover this in this thread?

It’s Mexican Typhoon according to Yoga Book Hyper. I don’t know if Capcom USA decided to give it a different name or what but from my experience most people refer to it as ‘typhoon’ or call it a SPD.

I say call it Storm Hammer if you want. Typhoon, Storm Hammer, SPD, grab, whatever. We all know what it refers to.

Yeah, Mexican Typhoon is the proper name. Storm Hammer is what the Capcom USA folks came up with as a PC region-appropriate replacement. Probably same as why Screw Piledriver became Spinning Piledriver.

I always use Storm Hammer. The original arcade manuals and banners for New Challengers listed the move as ‘Storm Hammer’ in English. No one ever calls it SPD or Mexican Typhoon. I’ve always heard people call it the 'cyclone, which is what Sirlin called the move in his CCC2 tutorials I believe.

I think Mexican Typhoon is lame. Cyclone makes no sense. And SPD is already taken. I’ll go with Storm Hammer. Sounds pretty fierce to me. Also…if you pull up HDR’s move list in game…it lists Hawk’s command throw as Storm Hammer.

So I hereby declare myself and Gridman as the official winners of this debate!!! Storm Hammer it is!!!

Pfft. Mexican Typhoon all night long.

I’m afraid Yoga Book Hyper trumps anything you say. Sorry.

Or in HDR the move is called stormhammer.

On HDR, Honda also has move called Ochio Throw, which is a nonsensical term that the Japanese mocked when they first got their hands on the game. On the other hand, “oicho” refers to the fan-shaped hairstyle that Honda and other high level sumo wrestlers adorn commensurate to their rank. I’m not sure why anyone wouldn’t follow the terminology of the folks who created the moves in the first place.

I was being an ass, but specifically I meant that in HDR its whatever the movelist calls it. Technically.

I was messing around with VF4 as well, since he desires to be an authority on everything.

Ganelon’s explanation makes sense to me.

Cosplay more…

Anyone else know that there’s no throw whiff for the Super?

What do you mean? if you do the super motion and miss, you should get the wiff from a normal grab attempt since the motions overlap :frowning: throw wiff makes me sad

What I did was HCBx2 then forward on both sides. No matter how hard I tried, I didn’t get a throw whiff out of range one time. I’ll try a little more, but Im pretty sure the Super has no whiff.

You are a novice at testing bugs it seems, either that or you have mediocre execution, because there is no way that you ‘tried hard’ and failed to get a whiff from the Super Throw. I just tested both the PSN and XBL versions of HDR and got a whiff of the Super Throw at full screen in arcade, versus, and training modes for both games. Anyways, Hawk having his throw behave erratically is nothing new, I’ve tested the throw out a few months ago and found more reason to not play HDR.

So, for example, you can go for a Super Throw in HDR, using the hcfx2,b+p motion, and randomly get a dragon punch, and of course a standing normal. No throw whiff will come out despite you doing the correct inputs for a Super Throw. Hawk’s Super Throw is bugged like crazy. You still want more stupidity from Hawk’s Super?

Try standing full screen away from your opponent with a full Super meter. Do hcfx2,b+p, but not rapidly, and watch a dragon punch come out almost every time. Why does a dragon punch come out from a hcfx2,b+p command? Who knows? However, if you do a Super throw motion, as fast as possible, even from full screen away, you should get a whiff almost every time though. So the Super Throw does have a whiff but it only comes out when you input the commands within a certain window. You probably have slow hands or aren’t inputting the Super Throw command quickly enough to cause the whiff.

Try inputting the Super Throw commands in as quickly as possible while you are a full screen away from your opponent and the whiff should come out. It’s not that the Super Throw doesn’t have a whiff, it does, you aren’t quick enough on the joystick. What does this mean? It means that Hawk’s Super Throw behaves different when the inputs are done within a certain window. We know that Hawk’s Dragon Punch window was changed to be larger, which is probably why motions ending on back or down+back can cause DPs to come out seemingly randomly. And Hawk’s Throw commands were changed, which probably caused some other errors as well. Sirlin didn’t know much about ST Hawk and obviously didn’t playtest R.Hawk enough in HDR so none of this is really a surprise.

Here’s another weird mistake in HDR, the new Super Throw motion works for Hawk in Classic Mode, but only under certain conditions. The easiest way to replicate it is to jump right next your opponent, do the remix Super Throw command in the air, then watch as your Super comes out upon landing.

HDR is filled with problems like this unfortunately.

I did it slightly out of range not full screen and never got a whiff.

I just got a whiff using the Super Throw motion fifteen times in a row on the XBL version. This means that, either you aren’t doing the motion quickly enough, or that HDR has even more issues (due to Backbone being awful).

On a side note, I just turned on my ST cabinet for some testing, and I was able to do a Super Throw without hitting the ‘up’ direction at all with T.Hawk.
