720s FTW! (T-Hawk thread)

If you can post videos of yourself against solid guiles like brian I might be convinced. Id say 7-3 or 7.5-2.5 at worst. Sometimes Id rather fight guile than DJ though.

Well, I’ve never fought Brian, but I usually do pretty well against Fifth and Marsgatti, two of the best Guile’s on live IMO. I heard that TONO japanese guy is pretty good, but its far too laggy when we play, so I can’t speak for him. But yeah, I’ll try and get some video’s up with that fight.

And DeeJay is a bitch. I’d gladly take the old Dive over the new Dive on him. Its so much easier punishing Guile than DeeJay.

Yeah I wasnt trying to say Brian was the only good one hes just the one I think of when I hear “good guiles”. I always thought Fifth was a blanka player. Ive stolen some rounds of marsgatti too but hes definitely solid.

Against DJ, I hate how after the new dive, if you hit it just a tit too high or like he crouch blocks it, he can slide sometimes for free.

Also OT but Jiggly, you and me roomin next year for evo.

What did Sirlin change about the dive? Actually if you could link me to the change log, that would probably be better. I used to have the link somewhere but I lost it.

I have an old vid against Brian from February. I feel my Hawk is much better now, as this was a little after I started using him on HDR IIRC. I don’t remember how many games we played but we split this set. He probably won more than he lost though.

I think Guile wins this match but i feel that it’s a lot closer than most people would think.

Don’t kill me in my sleep.

Seriously though, its too early to tell who I’d room with. I would need to see who’d be coming with me.

I’m assuming you can do a standing Typhoon now Kuroppi.:wasted:

:wow::wow::wow::wow: Entirely inappropriate.

Edit: V You know you had a giggle. V

Oh you.

Litlte known fact: If you whiff a low roundhouse Guile can RH flash kick to hit you on reaction. It’s been done to me, I’m not quite sure how range-sensitive it is though. Luckily few Guile players know about this.

I’d pay damn good money for T.Hawk to have his st.rh hitbox extended to the same length as N.Hawk’s (while otherwise keeping the same properties as before, like to hit lower). SO MANY TIMES Ryu and Guile can taste my damn boot as they start to fireball/boom, but the hitbox and heel don’t line up as before. It’s such a subtle thing, but it would go soooooo far to make T.Hawk a bit better.

See for yourself! Go to training mode, classic, and play N.Hawk against CPU-controlled Ryu, Ken, or Guile. Face-punt away; you’ll often trade, but the damage makes it worth it. SO NICE! Now that Guile has his long-range roundhouse flash kick, it would be that much better to keep pressure. Do the same thing, but in remixed mode. Watch as T.Hawk’s boot grazes Ryu’s ear without hitting his head.

…so…many times…

T.Hawk’s game plan could be the usual get in as fast as possible and 360 set-up, along with some real midrange roundhouse and SRK pressure. It just trades so well, is great against blocked/whiffed specials (Cammy and Dictator), and really helps him in many of the areas he has problems with. I’m telling you, it would be bigger than having both dives on command (which would also be pretty sweet). He’s had a full-length roundhouse before, he should have it again.

Regarding easier walk-up 360s and possible supers, what matchups are specifically better because of this? Does it offset the weakness of him having a whiff in said matchups?

Search seems to be down atm so unsure if this has been touched upon.

I believe i once saw a T-Hawk player doing j.attack into dive similar to how ken does j.attack into HK.

Is this just prohibitively difficult or simply not possible and i was simply fooled by lag ?

If possible does it have any strategic merit ?

Edit: One example where it would be useful if possible would be if you antiair and then go into dive so you have a more favorable position when you land.

Yes jumping.Jab can be cancelled into Dive, nothing useful about it except back in VST I used to trick Zangief into trying to reverse a 360 with SPD but instead counter and knock him down with dive :).

Interesting tid-bit guys.

I’m not sure exactly where the timing is for it, but in some circumstances you can land close enough from a Dive to not throw, but close enough to combo (or tick if they block) with standing neutral jab. I did it a couple times to BlueTallCans the other night and it worked wonders. It might be a meaty Dive now that I think about it. I need to check it out more.

You can land close enough after a dive TO throw?

No, no, you still won’t be close enough to actually throw, but you’ll land close enough to combo a weak tick, and then walk forward a little bit and Typhoon. It sounds dumb on paper, but its actually an awesome little trick to do to mess with your opponents head.

You can land close enough to throw and land combos off of the dive but setting those situations up in a normal match is not really something that’s practical at all and would fail almost always against good competition.

Err, TallCans is regarded as the best Blanka in the nation and I caught him a couple of times doing it. It is practical. I’ll be working more on it and see what other possibilities there are.

I already asked in the Boxer thread, but no one really got back to me so I’ll ask about the Hawk match up here.

What can I use as an anti-air against Hawk as boxer other than Buffalo Headbutt? I’m mostly interested in non cross up jump in body splash, and Hawk Dive. I’ve tried cr. fierce on the body splash a few times, but that didn’t seem to work. I wasn’t sure if it was just bad luck, or if body splash will beat it clean more often than not. I’m also interested in seeing if cr. fierce beats or trades Hawk Dive.

Any general pointers would help, too. I’m not too familiar with this match up other than I know I want keep Hawk out.
