I’m a serious Hawk player and I cant dont walk up 360s for the life of me.
You know, Hawk may still have some questionable quirks on board…but damn is he entertaining to play. The feeling of giving a walk-up 360 to Guile is priceless. How truly competitive he is, though, remains suspect.
The best I expect to see (and this is true of several lower tier characters) is a metagame shift over time. If people actually do play them well enough to place in events, the community will playtest against them that much more and demonstrate their shortcomings in future events. What would T.Hawk do to world-class Ryus and Hondas who don’t fall for baiting techniques?
To be fair, lower tier characters could be shown to be more competitive than in VST (a very exciting thing), but there’s still room for improvement. The “fun” part with T.Hawk though, for me at least, is much greater than before.
This is nothing new. Three frame window for a walk up throw isn’t really strict considering that you have six chances to hit punch before the jump comes out. And any Guile who lets you walk up and throw him, unless he’s cornered, probably doesn’t know what he or she is doing.
I’ll admit its hard to walk-up throw Guile, but I’ve done it to Guile’s (and DeeJay’s if that matters) who definitely know their shit, and it either won me the fight or turned the tides.
The more you intimidate them with a walk-up throw the more prone they can be to making a mistake in defending against it. Your timing needs to be at perfection once you get that small opening.
If the Guile and DeeJay truely know their shit then you wouldnt have such an opening. All the GOOD (repeat GOOD) Guiles and DeeJays ive ever played have never even let me get anywhere near them to even throw them.
Not really. Everyone makes mistakes. Ive walked up 360’d brian and bruce before. If you cant walk up 360, use training mode.
I should probably mention that i’m talking about vanilla ST since I never play HDR.
For some reason yeah, its a little harder in ST. Don’t know why though.
And yeah, I’ve walk up thrown Bruce, Fifth’s Guile, and that one Japanese Guile. Tono or something.
Well, in VST walk up 360 is difficult no doubt but if you do want to be serious about hawk, walk up 360 is a must learn. Granted, I’ve been really lazy/spoiled by the new motion so probably cant do it 100% right now, but it would probably take me all of 10 minutes to relearn how to do it.
I myself have found few situations where I was like “damn, I wish I knew how to do walk-up 360s.” I do fine with ticking from max range with standing neutral jab or walk up RH throw.
What can hawk do against Vega? He seems to have an answer for everything Hawk does.
walk up stand forward, short, and cr.short work to stuff different moves. i know cr.short will stuff slide, st.forward will beat calw roll (besides last hit) and st.short is just really good overall. walk up DP is good against vega because the risk reward is in your favor. either you get a knockdown and momentum switch or vega pegs you with cr.mp or at worst a slide. low forward is good to stuff max range slides too. if he goes to the air, wait a second to see if its the d, u+p move and if not, jump back jab or fierce. fierce has to be timed and jab doesnt. jab loses to super if claw gets above you sometimes.
dont forget f+lp, beats guiles c.mk among other shit
Thats true and cr.rh is good in like every matchup too.
Another question, is Hawk stunted by a turtle Guile? I ran into a few today and I couldnt catch a break. One match I ran out of time twice, he was damn patient.
Pretty much yes. Guile and honda are his two hardest match ups. Id rather play honda sometimes than guile.
No problem, I’ll just, well, wait for him to get impatient. xD
Anyway, I’m liking Hawk a lot. My main was Gief for awhile but I got tired with the BS he has to put up with. I feel more fluid and in control with Hawk. Just wish I could punish blocked jump-in attacks with his Slam. xD
i’d like to playu Jiggly’s hawk. He would probably beat me 10-0 but at least I would know what to expect from a good hawk - i lost heavily to Ferdi NL (i think thats his name) simply because i didnt recognise half his moves, he is so little played…
You can get some games in with me. Ive been playing way too much random select / balrog lately.
Lol, Hawk has to put up with a lot of bullshit too.
And trust me, Guile isn’t THAT hopeless. I’d say its 7-3 Guile in the game, MAYBE 6.5-3.5. Throw the flames at me now.
