Yeah again, I only hit it with hondas headbutt but im assuming (with good reason) that balrog blanka and claw can definitely punish it in the same fashion. (Dash punch, ball, and prob st/cr.mp or mk). I didnt test those out at all but they should work since they are all just as fast, if not faster than headbutt
jiggly - Im sure that its not a hard and fast rule like when sim blocked the dive in VST he could punish it every time but it still is a little silly that you can be hit after a “safe” dive a good portion of the times.
Boxer’s Super can be hit from a random slow down the same way Hawk can be hit if his Dive is mis-timed. Someone could say that it matters less for Boxer because he’s top, but once Hawk is in, he becomes top tier capable as well.
You guys just noticed this? I thought it was common knowledge.
This happens all the fucking time to me against DJ when he does a slide as I do the dive. If you get unlucky it hits him in the back of the head and then you pop up in the air right in front of him, just waiting for him to kick your ass. It’s not so much hitting high with it as hitting towards the back of their body. (Which usually happens if you are high up, but also happens against slide attacks)
The random slow down only happens in the corner I thought?
Marg - Yeah I did just notice this. I tend to use the new dive sparingly and when I do use it, I try to use it like the old dive in that if its blocked, the old dive would be safe.
I started playing T. Hawk for fun, but I can’t seem to get the crouching jab into Typhoon 360 Grab. Hawk will always do the whiff animation right after the jab. How fast (or slow) do I need to go? And what about the motion? Thanks.
You need to just wait a split second, and then Typhoon. Go for the 360 motion starting in down back. If you want help I’ll be on in a bit.
I’ll be on tonight for sure, will add you to my FL. The one thing I CAN do, though is reverse. I had some really fluke-ish wins yesterday thanks to Hawk’s power and reversal throws. Once an opponent hits me I just start spinning the stick and mashing punch. Sometimes I get lucky, lol.
I’ll be on as well tonight
Did anyone confirm that Fierce storm hammer (aka the command throw) has less range than the jab and strong versions? I’m testing it out now in training mode and it definitely has less range than the other two versions.
Against Ken and if you cross up splash and then low jab twice, and he blocks all three attacks, you are out of range for the fierce version of the command throw but the other two work just fine if you slightly delay the second jab.
If you do the jabs at the fastest speed the fierce command throw is still within range but if you delay the jabs it pushes you out of range for the fierce yet the jab and strong remain in range because they have a longer range.
It is difficult to test this out in classic mode because Hawk has no whiff. I don’t know if I’m truly out of range or mistiming the throw but it seemed like the fierce version of the command throw had the same range as its jab and strong counterparts in classic mode.
Anyone else can shed light on this?
Ive always thought that Jab had most range, least damage. Strong had average on both. Fierce had least range and did the most damage. However, I remember someone (I dont remember who) saying that they tested it out and that they all have the same ranges. Personally, it ** feels ** like jab has more range. Whether its true or not I dont know.
Sirlin said in this game, they all have the same range, just jab deals the most stun while fierce deals the least.
Is that the same in ST? I see walk up JAB 360 the most but that could mostly be because if you whiff a jab you dont get killed unlike when you whiff st.fierce. St.fierce is an underrated poke
Nope, ST the range is different on them all.
Where is your hard evidence for this?
The range is actually different in each matchup. However it appears that all versions of his throw have the same range. It just varies with which character Hawk is matched up against.
http://nki.combovideos.com/data.html#distance
I did extensive testing on Remix and saw zero difference in range or grab frames on any version of the SPD. There was no distance or setup that worked with one and not the other.
I always use fierce, period, and I don’t see myself whiffing SPDs any more than anyone else. The difference in stun is interesting, sometimes after a roundhouse grab I’ll do a crossup splash, stand forward then grab, in that case maybe jab would be a smarter choice if it makes that combo much more likely to dizzy.
But fierce does so much more damage.
Also if you do the SPD in the corner fierce and jab make you land at slightly different distances. This might be true not in the corner as well, it was just easier to test cornered. IIRC the fierce version actually leaves you a little closer to them. I did testing on Ryu’s stage and looked at the position of Hawk’s feet relative to the slats on the ground, the jab version leaves your toe lined up with one while the fierce version leaves the front third of your foot over it.
Questions for you Thawk users from a guy who is about to pick up Hawk:
1-Is the Remixed hawkdive better or worse, and why?
2-If Hawk still had his old throw properties would he really had been invincible with the Remixed hawkdive as Sirlin predicted?
3-Overall, What would it take for Thawk to become actually usable in serious Tourney play?
You can win just fine with Hawk. Don’t hesitate picking him.
100% true no doubt. Yeah I’m pretty bitter about how he turned out. Will I stop picking him? Undoubtedly no. I answered #3 from the perspective as if I got a chance to rebalance Hawk for HDR.
