^ Exactly. I don’t know why, but the LP Typhoon just seems so much more reliable than HP. I’ll land the LP Typhoon about 95% of the time when I tick into it, but I’ll land the HP typhoon about 70% of the time in the same situation.
i haven’t really noticed much of a difference in fp and hp ticks, but i only use hp :p. do you really notice that much of a difference that i should be incorporating it into my strategies?
I would recommend it Slayer to be honest.
I’m with you, I use HP to tick or grab, but if someone has health that LP or HP will K.O. I use LP. There is just that big of a % difference in success.
Playing against Grid who uses LP almost exclusively, well at least the times we played, there is a big difference in the amount of whiffs I get and he does. Granted this may be bad timing by me, which I am known to do, or just better timing by him. We played for maybe 15-20 matches the other night and I whiffed on average 2-3 a games. This was against multiple of his characters, not just T.Hawk.
Over the course of the matches I used HP ONLY…not a good idea, I missed tons of free grabs even outside of ticks. Which in turn made matches difficult to win. I was going to lose most of these matches anyways, but I could have made them much more interesting using LP instead of HP.
They just messed with the code. Grid, Zass and many others have been saying something was off since the game came out. I agree and think he’s just missing grab frames or the animation has to play before HP grab making there a reversal window.
I am going to start trying to use MP against skilled opponents, see if the % goes up. The damage from HP to LP is going to be hard to live with out, but whiff < any damage.
Hey, I just started using Hawk and I’m loving it!
Can anything beat j.lp (outside of a dp)? It’s a game-winner.
By the way, cyclone is super-duper easy. Why bother playing footsies when you can just grab them from defensive crouch? Does anyone else do the movement like this: db, d, df, f, uf?
Anyway, Hawk is the man. I’ll be reading these pages.
oh yeah, theres plenty that can beat it. back jab with sim, cr.forward with dic, down fierce with rog its just REALLY hard to stuff. the timing on those is all specific.
jedi - i really dont see much of a difference between lp and mp to be honest. i rarely use mp but, when ive tried it, it seemed very similar to lp timing, if not slightly off. only time i get FP is when like for example hawk jumping in with lp , i 360 and drum all 3 and occasionally get the fp. hopefully the patch will fix this nonsense.
It’s the only motion I use now to be honest. It’s reactive for me so I can get it in, well on reaction.
As Grid said, j.lp can be beat. Not by a ton of stuff but Grid listed the main dangers for it.
Grid - Ya I am hoping the same thing since it really isn’t a balance issue, it’s a bug.
Something I wanted to run by people is j.rh. I have been using this a lot to check it out…man does it stuff a lot of moves. Granted it’s not as viable as j.lp since you have to time it correctly, but it seems to have good priority which I really don’t remember it having before. Granted I didn’t use it much except jumping backwards against Dic, Honda and Blanka.
Anyone find any new uses for j.rh? (hehe cept Grid’s ghetto 360, j.rh whiff, I use it all the time now Grid, hilarity ensues )
jedi even better is jump rh whiff 720. people go apeshit
edit: my brother changed his xbl name. new one is over to the left
Do not rely on safe-jump jab or j.jab -> Typhoon versus Blanka and Dictator, since they can avoid the j.jab by crouching.
thanks, i’ll try it tonight while i’m playing, we should play some, i play with grid every now and then but he’s a lot better than i am, but maybe ticking with lp will make me do a bit better, i hate playing mirrors though, i’d rather just play blanka against T hawk cuz mirrors are teh gay
This is also true for Cammy…body splash them.
I do elbow drop then typhoon them.
yeah d.mp is good and so is jump fierce. that move is so awesome.
Ya, Jump fierce is like the only thing that can save him from low anti-airs sometimes.
Also primo against Sim. Trade trade trade!
Sweet move.
So I spent a decent amount of time testing tonight in training mode. Here is what I found:
-
I didn’t see any difference in reliability between fierce and jab 360.
-
I tried setting the computer to jump to see if it could jump out of ticks. (With Ken) I was able to hit the computer with a normal as he touched the ground then get the 360, with every normal that doesn’t push you too far away.
-
Sometimes the whiff animation seems longer than other times. Doesn’t seem to be related to what strength button you used or kara-cancelling. Could be my imagination.
-
Honda pushes you out of range to throw much faster than other characters. A blocked low forward leaves you just wihin range (like to the pixel) while jab then short leaves you too far away. So if you are seeing whiffs on Honda it’s probably just a Honda problem.
5: T. Hawk has no moves that put him at a frame disadvantage and make it impossible to whiff if you do the 360 after the attack. By comparison Zangief’s stand short seems impossible to whiff after and is still fast enough to prevent people from jumping. (Although it is easier to reverse I suppose)
I’m willing to chalk up the whiffs we’re seeing to people pianoing and getting throws too early and to online play messing with people’s timing and distance. Personally I used jab for a while online then switched to fierce and never saw any difference other than increased damage, doesn’t seem button dependent to me.
So basically if you compare Zangief and Hawk, Zangief has a move that he can piano off of to get ticks and Hawk does not, which combined with network play imprecision means that Zangief can still land ticks pretty easily online and Hawk…can’t…
I forgot about that, thanks for pointing it out. It’s basically all the three that can avoid st.roundhouse (far) by crouching.
I’ve been using safe-jump forward -> st.jab -> negative edge Typhoon in ST and it seems to work well.
i tried using lp instead of fp typhoons and i could not really tell much of a difference, except on reversal. when i would be waking up i didn’t miss one lp typhoon and that was really helpful because for some reason i have a hard time doing wake up dp’s, maybe it’s because i’m playing on line, but 50% or more of the time for me i get knocked out of it or im just doing the motion at the wrong time which is prolly the case. i guess another question i’d have is when specifically do you use lp over fp?
EDIT
one other thing i noticed was when i did a lp typhoon i got a dizzy, that’s only the second time i’ve ever gotten a dizzy off of a typhoon, i don’t recall the level of the first time, but how often does it happen with lp? if it happens a decent amount, the dizzy itself is a reason to use lp.
ill be honest, i started pianoing my ticks again, and i get FP all the time now. its so weird. but if i try to do straight up cr.jab x FP Typhoon (i mean ONLY hit FP,) it ALWAYS whiffs. with piano, i always get the fp. its really REALLY strange.
go into training and knock them down, do meaty cl.mk and try to tick into lp like you normally would. feels right. then try it with FP instead, and ONLY hitting FP, it feels SO much tighter and harder, i dunno jedi, zass, myself, and anyone else who recognizes this cant just be crazy. i mean, i use to be able to do it all the time in vanilla st like normal (btw, i tried goofing off in vanilla ST and my mind is SET on the motion hcb f now :-/ )
slayer - ive seen typhoon dizzy a few times its just really rare. the dizzy probably resets before the lp typhoon finishes sometimes (and definitely with the fp). ive seen xup splash, cr.jab x3 jab typhoon dizzy a few times.
i noticed when it did dizzy the screen kinda made the spinny motion, like following the person being thrown if that makes sense
I’ve been doing MP 360s by default.
I’m having decent results with his super doing HCB + HCD (half-circle diagonal).
Random post…
Anyone have a double whiff against Gief yet? had one tonight…I found it quite amusing to be honest.
I have nothing constructive sorry…
