I haven’t had any problems with Sagat yet.
st.rh is your best friend against sagat. that and cr.rh and dont forget that any missed tiger knee is a free 360.
kuroppi - sim rapes hawk for free. the only thing kinda goin for him now is safe dive but sim can just hit b.lp and hit it clean everytime. even if he blocks it he’ll just push you out with cr.mp’s and cr.mks.
Or the fucker can just slide to avoid it completely
I think the best strategy against Sim is to be patient, poke his limbs and wait for the right opening to move in. Low strong works great against his standing kicks. Low Jab can hit limbs at the right range. I don’t use the dive very often against Sim.
I recently started playing Hawk as my second main (I like using supposedly crappy chars and get good with them). I have questions on vs Gief.
If I somehow get knocked down, and I see gief either does the green hand, or forward hop for a tick->spd, what should I do in that case? Should I go for the reverse 360 or should I go for the reverse DP? What are the cons and pros?
Question 2: Gief’s footwork is so much better than Hawk, what’s the strategy against his mix of c.mk or c.hk? Is there a normal move that Hawk can use to beat out Giefs kicks on ground? Or should I use jump->hawk dive against his ground attacks?
I kept reading ppl here on this thread talking about s.hk against gief. But when I play really good Giefs, I notice that the s.hk is almost useless against them, they have ways around it. If the s.hk is so good, how should I use it?
I tried body splash->c.lp->c.lp->360 against Giefs, but most of the time they simply reverse my 360 tick with their SPD? Should I try to tick->360 against Giefs or is my timing just not good enough?

unless gief is ontop of you, go for dp. gief has better spd range so he’ll probably be trying max range s.lk x spd after a knockdown. if hes on top of you, try a 360.

pretty sure cr.rh trades with giefs but giefs is so much faster. st.rh will beat cr.rh/mk from gief but lose to lariats. also, dont jump from max range with jab as st.rh with gief will beat it everytime.
gotta be smart with st.rh. bait lariats with it and then sweep them out of lariats or if you’re really good walk up 360 the recovery
ticking against a good gief is tough. however, since hawk has a dp, you can bait them into thinking you’re gonna do a 360 but then dp and knock them down. once you instill fear into them that you’re gonna dp, THEN you can go for a 360.
edit: what “really good giefs” are you playing? ive played so many giefs online not many of them stood out. gief has never given me a problem whenever im hawk.
one more edit: besides jedi, i havent played any of you [hawks] on XBL. add me and we can get hawk mirror matches. i dont particularly like theory fighter so much and would rather play matches out.
Thanks for the tips. Well I play mostly on PSN. On PSN, blitzfu and True_Old_School are both fairly good with Gief. I don’t play XBL much, so I haven’t met a good Gief on XBL either.
I’m alright at gief, but i main hawk, so i can probably give your hawks a run for their money w/ gief. add me on XBL I’m KaPH33n.
Better to bait spd then j.fp, s.lp xx dp.
This might be come handy as inspiration:

Hawk vs Zangief is like wrestling in a minefield, it’s all about predicting when your opponent wants to use their command grab. I’ve seen Toutanki do the safe-jump j.jab -> cr.jab then immidiately jump and Zangief’s reversal SPD attempt whiff’s, just watch the match.
Old vid, but worth watching for newcomers. ^-^ We should put together some vids showing OUR matches and what we can all improve on. Theory fighting is getting old… ^-^;;
ive seen that video a trillion times and i STILL dont understand why hes able to do that. maybe because of hawks small amount of jump frames? technically speaking, i thought you were NOT able to do something like that
Hawk’s c.jab has frame advantage… I dunno how much, but llong enough to cover your pre-jump too I would imagine.
Didn’t Hawk get some added prejump frames in HD Remix?
I do it all the time with close s.mk and c.lk, as long as you ahve enough frame advantage to get off the ground you are good.
well thats news to me.
for people who were having trouble with the 720 command on the right side, if you do the motion slower, it seems to come out more consistently.
dirty tick - far s.lk walk up super. i did it to so many people tonight and its fucking AWESOME.
also for hawk vs hawk matchups, cr.fierce and cr.mk beats j.jab
Am I retarded or is it hard to tick honda. I don’t even get whiff animation lol. Only him though, idk. Doesn’t help my stick sucks horribly.
u r a stoopid t. hawk player. didn’t u read sirlin’s article? all you have to do is try harder and the match magically becomes winnable so stop being a lazy lima bean!

Actually RagingStormX, that’s one of T.Hawks problems against Honda even in Vanilla ST most ticks against Honda will fail for some odd reason especially if you do a standing normal into a tick, I find it more successful to do strong/jab typhoons the fierce version fails most of the time.
Something is not right with E.Honda when it comes to throwing him.
Oh shit! Did I mention I still rarely lose that match lol. Its just annoying that I get a s.fp or some shit, like the motion has to be perfect or it doesnt come out, only vs honda. Oh well, I find Vega harder than Honda and Guile so far.
I think it has something to do with Honda’s hitbox; there’s a lot of wonky stuff that goes on with him.
