ok well after talking with my partner and stuff about the tourney we have decided that there will be FREE PIZZA for all those that enter the tourney.
the fees will stay the same becuase I can’t change prices withought my partner agreeing to do the same thing and it would be fucked up for me to change things behind his back.
If this tourney does well it does well. If it turns out no one shows up then thats fine too.

I just thought that video games would be a good way to help raise money for a group that I am a part of at Sac State. Thats all. I would not have even gottin this opportunity if my friend who is good friends with the guys at great escape and is also a part of SP as well hooked me up with a shot at this tourney.
I tried getting a tourney with Great escape games in the past last year and I myself got shot down but with my griend helping me by talking to them I got a chance to do this.
Look i can’t change anything else so the point is, is that there will be FREE PIZZa for all who enter the tourney on sat. if people come they come, if they dont they dont. I really hope that this will not be the case but we will see how this goes.
I saw this earlier and was laughing for a bit. But after reading the above post I changed my tune. RAM as always had the best intentions for the gaming community in general since I met him a few years ago. It seems as if there is nothing going on in sac right now so If you guys want more tournaments you need to support this one. Ok, now everyone start laughing again.
If someone does fierce–>run->fierce->run->slide, are they DQed? This combo is both more difficult and less damaging than many combos that other characters have.
Is one rep of fierce->run->fierce enough to get you DQed? What if it’s blocked?
If this were an MVC2 tournament, there would be no problem with Iron Man doing 80% of a lifebar with his infinite.
Taking advantage of desperate competitors because you know they’ll pay.
It all just sounds shady to me. Why weren’t you strait up about where the money was going from the start? Instead of hiding it as a “venue” cost?
Here’s what you do:
Have a tourney
Have a legit venue charge Charge for food, and put that money towards your fund raiser. Home made food would be perfect. Fund raisers where people ask for money for nothing are bullshit, I’m not going to give money towards any cause if the people asking for money won’t put towards any effort. A simple car wash or food goes a long way. That’s how you fund raise, you do something simple but show enthusiasm and people give you generous ammounts of money for it. This tourney isn’t a fund raiser, it’s exploitation.
LOL Culture. nin-jay pretty much hit it on the head here. I can speak from years of experience and say that the funds coming from this tournament won’t be used productively. In fact, I’m very confident in saying that there probably won’t be more members of SP showing up to this event than you have fingers on your hands.
Nothing against Tyram at all, if anything, Tyram - don’t take anything I say personally. What you’re doing is a great endeavor and worthy of praise in a tournament-barren city. On top of that, I truly believe you have great intentions in wanting to help your organization out.
In other words, I’d like to echo the sentiments of the majority of gamers here, hoping for a lower “venue fee.” Take it from me, the effort just isn’t worth it for an organization that isn’t going anywhere. Don’t believe me? I bet I can name all the “major events” SP had from Fall '08 up until today - Friendship Games, and maybe a Spring Formal.

I still don’t like the idea of a club getting the money for this, but there is apparently nothing we can do about that now.
If you guys are going to hold future tournaments there, I suggest you remove all venue fees after this one, unless ALL the venue fee goes to the venue. The people providing the space to hold this tournament are really cool and deserve money coming to them for all the things they do. They are a really great resource and have hosted many tournaments that I have been to before.
lol yeah because I have the ability to make the rules for HDR being that it is a game that i wanted to ADD to the tourney. SF4 was supposed to be the only game for this thing but i wanted to add HDR.
great escape decided on the rules for SF4. I have no control over that but like i said ill ask about the el fuerte thing then get back to you on that.
Tournament entry fee is $5, “venue” fee is $10. If a person enters both tourneys, does that mean they pay $20, or $30?

How did you arrive at a venue fee of $2, and what is that 20% of?
edit: Never mind. $2 is 20% of $10; $2 to host, $8 to Samahang Pilipino.
I think by “what we make” he means the total of the $10 from each person.
I imagined the talk with the venue went something like this
ram: "hey we want to have tournament at your store! is that possible?"
mgmt: "sure!"
ram: "okay but I’m going to charge people who enter a fee to fundraise for my pilipino club"
mgmt "umm okay but in that case, give us 20% of what you fundraise for using our venue"
ram :“yay!”
