I think all shotos have the same frame trap on large characters, so duck jab, stand jab, duck forward.

I personally attack Rog’s with a “meaty” duck forward on wakeup. Stops jab mash and wake up headbutt.

I understand what you’re saying, but safe and hard to deal with options aren’t limited to SF4. In 3s they are many things that need to be parried if you wish to stop the onslaught.

The more you play Rog’s the more you won’t have an issue dealing with jab mash.

He’s waking up, you can meaty him. As simple as that. No jab will come out if timed right, and it’s not hard to do. Maybe he will not get punished but you keep the advantage and you got a mind game after that.

3s is the only SF game where you can easily be punished by a fat combo just for throwing a jab out. Maybe that’s an aspect you like, but don’t expect all SF games to work that way. 3s is the exception in the SF world, not the norm.

word.

Not only does putting down games you don’t like make the ones you enjoy better, it also makes people like you more and freshens your breath.

yes yes, so godlike

Everybody just play sf4 like seriously. Especially you Nica! you’ll be the best akuma if you can just sit down and think about sf4 in your bus rides instead of 3s ^^

Sneaky. :bgrin:

close thread please

im thinkin about it

but i decided to get serious about sf4 when i get back from japan this year

ill definitely hold 3s in my heart though…im not goin anywhere without that game…i started my career with 3s so im gonna end it with 3s no matter what

I understand why people hate 3s so much, but honestly it’s my favorite game and always will be.

I really want to know what people’s arguments are for and against parrying. I like it because it offers a universal way out, of anything, and all characters can do it. Nothing is guaranteed in that game and it can be turned around very quickly. I know people hate the idea of guessing, but it’s not always guessing. And guessing exists in all games, people guess shoryu on wake up in both ST and 4, a lot. They force mix-up, and that’s great. Also, throw much?

And what’s the problem with the cast? No familiar faces? Then accept it as a new game, and find a character you like. Everyone plays extremely different, and the meta-game is so interesting to watch. If I had the money I would move to Cali and live inside Denjin, the only arcade that fucking gets it.

If I had the money I would fly you out here :lovin:

I want to visit Denjin SO bad!

My state got lucky and has an arcade owner that listens to the community, he’s putting in a 3s machine with sanwa parts as soon as he tracks down a board. Ohio loves 10 year old games because we’ve always been 10 years behind

So now we have at least 4 topics on the 3rd Strike board dedicated to this very subject:

-Why Third Strike is a much better game than Street Fighter IV
-3’s Players: Why Aren’t you Playing Street Fighter 4?
-Third Stike: The Best Game Ever, Ever Ever.
-3s is better than sf4 period

I really hope that the people who are not satisfied with SF4 come back to 3rd Strike. Personally I have only gotten deeper into 3S and ST, following my realization that I just wasn’t having a fun time with SF4.
Seems like people here in the Bay Area are still playing just as much CvS2 as ever as well…guess that will never die in NorCal though.

I’ve honestly been having more fun with Soul Calibur 4 lately and I’m looking forward to getting into Tekken 6 and BlazBlu once they reach consoles…people at work keep talking those games up to me but the arcade is too far for me play those games regularly.

I’m sure that if I were to move down to SoCal and spend all my non-job time at Denjin, then I would start to get extremely hype about SF4…its not just the game that creates the aura of popularity, its the various scenes that develop around the game. SF4 happens to be what people are playing right now, and if I were to go to an arcade that had SF4 with any regularity I would be all about it, no doubt.

Denjin arcade is awesome just from the pics I’ve seen.

i’ve been there once like a month ago. pretty cool place. too bad i live so far from it:sad:

Crouching Fierce from most characters stuffs a hurricane kick, no parries required.

If it combos, then it’s a frame trap since block stun is so small. Against Balrog you should be doing safe cross-ups or meaty c. lk. The light kick beats all of Rog’s headbutt’s and recovers before the EX headbutt hits.

You know, the funny thing about this discussion is 3S really isn’t considered a SF game by any means. The game cut a lot of bullshit and even though there are a lot of rage towards Chun-Li and Yun, they’re just really good while still maintaining that feeling of logic. Chun-Li’s c.MK doesn’t anti-air people and Yun’s GJ and dive kick bs is still up to the player to figure out. There aren’t really any deceptive hitboxes in the game that you have to come to realization for you to better use your character. Your character’s moves are what they are and stuff that hits makes sense. 3S removes definitive zoning patterns because of parry, but doesn’t mean zoning and footsies aren’t there. Jump-ins aren’t 100% free and I always feel like any damage past quarter life is damage that’s worked for unlike SF4 where one jab can mean you just lost 50% of your life because there’s probably some way to link it into something ridiculous.

SF has always been about learning situations and scenarios and being familiar with how to get out of every little situation. That’s what makes it tough, but really that kinda gameplay isn’t really appealing to me. I realize that I really don’t like SF at all, because looking back at it I really can’t stand ST/SF2, the Alpha series or SF4. I just really like 3S and it’s the most different of all SF games and maybe that’s why I like it. This isn’t a bash towards 3S, it’s just me coming to an actual realization about what my preference really is and that 3S is great because it isn’t fundamentally SF. Forget the legacy, it’s a great game for what it’s accomplished and built to be. Call it a guessing game if you want, but name one fighter where the opponent doesn’t have to guess right and you can tell all those haters to screw themselves because they’re just hating on a game, not because it’s bad, but because they just dislike it.

That could quite be it. Those are some of the same reasons I prefer 3S over others.
