3rd strike tier list

yun has extra priority yes, but i dont see how it was possible for it to beat a wakeup super, clean. after the 1st hit, maybe, but meaty gj short stopping shippu clean? i dont think so, maybe your eyes were playing tricks on you. elaborate.

Im pretty sure genei jin doesnt beat wakeup shippu. I know that it trades with shippu…ive seen ppl try to escape genei jin using Shippu and it trades. But on wakeup? Shippu > genei.

I’m ALSO actually wondering how Sean could be better than Q!!! I thought Sean was determined to be the worst. Q is slow and has no low buffers (is that correct?), but other than that, he doesn’t have disadvantages, compared to Sean. Sean can’t do damage w/o super, and his specials suck along the lines of Dan’s. He just has some good normals. Q has more tricks too, as far as I can tell. 'DAMN: I think they told me the name of this guy who used Q last Friday night at FFA. I only beat him once w/ my LAMEASS Makoto. I was also having trouble getting the damn sticks to work, but, regardless…he was like a damn mindreader GRRRRRRRR haha…

Q does, in fact, have huge disadvantages. His biggest one is probably how easily he is locked down. Most characters can push him into the corner fairly easily, and once he’s there there is precious little he can do to get out; he basically has to try to karathrow the opponent into the corner or hope for the opponent to mess up or to get a beneficial parry. He’s also slow, has low mobility, gets eaten by crossups, has no options on wakeup, no dependable antiair, and some useless-ass normals. When he can land a hit, he does a lot of damage, and he takes damage well, but it’s very hard/risky to taunt against some opponents, especially when they have meter.

Get Q in the corner with an Akuma rushdown, he’s not going to get any breathing room for taunts, hell he’s gonna have a hard time escaping period. At least Sean has decent normals/wakeup EX Dragon. Wakeup parry for Q is honestly the best he can hope for.

If Q is played right he is far from worst character in the game. His throws are great and he can deal heavy damage. In addition with players who have good parrying skills he becomes a monster. Watch the video where Kurudas (Sp?) mops up many middle tier characters who are supposedly a lot better. In fact some of the matches were completely one sided in Q’s favor. Now Sean is the worst player. There is no argument for him.

Given fact: any character in the hands of someone who knows how to parry becomes a monster. If you’re thinking like that, why don’t you pick Hugo & parry everything into SA1? Hugo does WAY more damage than Q. Same shit, different character.

I’d like to mention that Q falls victim to just about every combo in the game and THEN some. Not a good quality to have.

Sean has his shoto dash & good normals. His SA’s are also really useful- SA1 has tiny bar for good damage, SA2 beats out Ryu’s SA2, and SA3 is hit-confirmable off a bunch of stuff, and has 3 frame startup, IIRC. Sean is in no way a bad character. It’s just that gets grouped /w Ken, Ryu & Akuma, who are much more effective.

I think we need to create a sticky thread that sayS “WHY SEAN IS (technically) BETTER THAN Q” so this question stops being asked. Wait. Wasn’t it asked earlier in this thread ALREADY???

well playing Q means u know how to fight ALL the characters in the game including akuma which IS Qs hardest fight… but remember your playing 3s, theres no gaurd break and most of the time the akuma ur fighting will start to lose his patience from u blocking hurricane kicks etc, so when ever u get a tech throw that can start the match over giving u a chance to do some damage…

Yeah i think Q was designed this way tho. doing the 3 taunts early on in the round makes up for some of his “off” play style. 1 good thing: sa1 is cool as it has fast start up and you can cancel off a dash punch. :encore:
i know you can screw him over with corner combos with oro (ex tengu…oh shit!) and good combos when stunned.
but 3 taunts + damage scaling = minimal damage.

Check out the SBO qualifiers list. Akuma is the most popular character so far.

No, none of the matches were in Q’s favor, Kuroda is just an awesome player. Don’t mistake the quality of the player for the quality of the character. He’s an excellent player, and can make even Q look usable, but that doesn’t mean that Q is good, it means that Kuroda is good at using Q. Q CAN deal damage, yes, but he rarely has any safe way of landing it. Every other character in the game has safer ways of damaging the opponent.

And there certainly is an argument for Sean, at least for him not being the worst in the game. As has already been said several times, Sean has a nice set of normal attacks, has the best dash in the game, can hit confirm into super from both standing and crouching, and can attack safely with quite a few of his normals. His supers are pretty good, he can deal with crossovers better than Q can, he doesn’t get locked down as easily, and he has better mobility.

And while it’s true that a three-taunt Q takes very little damage, against many characters it’s always difficult to taunt and against most it’s difficult when the opponent has super. Take Akuma as an example of the first. His rushdown is sick against Q, and he can keep doing most of it all day without fearing much repercussion. Q doesn’t have time to taunt or even build much meter. Or take Dudley. If he has enough meter for an EX machine gun punch, it’s NEVER safe to taunt unless you’ve just hit him with a super or a capture and deadly blow. An example of the second is Chun Li. Without meter, she still outprioritizes the crap out of Q, but Q has time to taunt and she can’t deal big damage even if she catches him. With meter, it’s retarded to try a taunt since the Chun will be in Q’s face and never more than a dash --> low forward --> SAII away. The only character Q is (more or less) guaranteed to get his taunts in against is Hugo, and maybe you can put Sean in there. Anyway, the point is that it’s foolish to think that his taunts make him a tourney-worthy character. They’re often too hard to get out against most opponents, and even when he has them, he still doesn’t have effective means of dealing with a lot of the tricks a lot of the characters have. Being able to take damage and deal damage doesn’t matter if you can’t consistently get in position to dish any out.

Q has guaranteed taunting against:

Sean
Chun without meter
Twelve
Remy
Hugo

Everyone else can either poke him from across the screen too quickly to get a ‘legit’ (screen shaking) taunt off or (B) hit/combo him too hard for the taunt to be worth the trade.

Though, if someone (shotos mostly) is dumb enough to throw a regular fireball from midscreen or further, you can just taunt anyway and take one to the face. Taking the hit saves you from recovery time.

Don’t get me wrong. Q is downright ackward, but that’s what makes him hard to play against. If Q dishes out the damage first while getting his taunts in then his opponent is in rush to get Q’s health down. Perfect example is the Kuruda’s Q against that Ryu, all Q had to do was sit there and let time run out. Obviously many characters are better than others but I think this whole tier thing is getting a little exaggerated. What it comes down to is a player’s ability to adjust to his oppenent. The Remy in that video looked equal if not better than that chun. Remember the Makato that ran through like 4 characters just to get beat by Urien (Cooperation cup). The player capabality has preference over tier.

Which totally negates your argument about Q being a good character.

3s and st tiers r different. the tiers in st r rigid while the tiers in 3s r a hell of a lot looser. thats why u can see Q be played so well because thats what THE CHARACTER is capable of.

i think a good tier list that reflects how loose this game is would be…

top tier

ken
chun
yun

mid tier to low tier

everyone else

because seriously speaking if a player like kuruda knows his match ups well enough then not much can stop him outside of the top 3.

psychic hugo can

Nah, Q will still die to Makoto, Urien, Dudley, Akuma, Oro…etc. Too mny bad match ups.

But Sean is still the worst.

TAKE THAT BACK
