3rd Strike - Is it ruined

Akuma is selectable in arcade ST.

Because we are stupid.

We would rather let a game turn into a horrible bore-fest with the same two moves (Yun super and Chun low forward->super) than be “weak” and change the rules slightly to make it more enjoyable for everyone as well as a much better game overall.

Most games evolve. The rules of football, soccer, baseball, chess - they change. Once a SF game is out the rules don’t change, Capcom doesn’t even release version tweaks like Namco does.

The players have the power to change the game, but we don’t bother because people are afraid Sirlin will accuse them of not “playing to win” or some shit like that. (Which he defines as doing everything you can do to win, except for certain things)

“Playing the way the designers intended” is stupid. 3S has been in a rut for years and it’s easy to fix. Ban 3 supers, problem solved. RCs have the problem that they can be done on accident or on the sly. There is no such problem in 3S.

3S has become a degenerate game. Might as well unban Akuma from ST because that certainly wouldn’t be any worse than Yun/Chun all day.

I’m not in favor of huge changes or changes that cannot be enforced, but very targeted changes that are easy to enforce like banning a couple of supers is a no-brainer.

Let me repeat - 3S is a degenerate game. By that I mean the gameplay has degenerated to the same 1% over and over and over again. It’s like playing tic-tac-toe when both players know the optimal strategy.

The game is clearly broken.

We as a group are extraordinarily stupid. Most Capcom games have one really fucking awful feature that destroys the gameplay. But we don’t ban those features because we like to beat our chests and be hardcore or some shit like that. Somehow changing the rules of a game to make it far superior is “pussying out.”

Imagine if in football a field goal was worth 17 points. Yeah, that would be pretty fucking dumb. Even dumber would be “hey, that’s what the guys who wrote the rules intended!”

Actually the real answer to that is, try imagining 3s without Yun/Chun/Ken. Now try to beat Urien/Makoto. Both of them have some broken ass tactics, people just don’t complain about them because compared to top tier they aren’t worth complaining about. I mean, you can play the ban game all you want and in most games it’ll go down this way.
In CvS2 you can play the ban game and get rid of top 4 A characters (Vega, Sakura, Blanka, Bison), but good luck ever beating K groove allstars (Geese, Blanka, Sagat, Cammy) ever again.
In MvC2 you can play the ban game and get rid of top 4, but good luck ever beating Cyclops, Doom or Blackheart ever again.

The point is, this is how 2-D fighting games work. You can either get used to it or play something else. Maj said it in this thread, you can either pick top tier yourself, play weaker characters and be OK with losing to people who aren’t on your level or play something else. 5 years ago I had enough of option 2 with Alex/Hugo and chose option 3. Now I only play this stupid game in tournaments.

“Carry on with the thread which is by the way my favorite thread going on SRK right now. 3s fanboys trying to disprove what everyone’s known for 5 years now about character balance is like the height of comedy to me.”

Hahahaha

Me too!!

(laughing at how obvious it is to tell who knows the game and who doesn’t)

The game isnt ruined, but this thread is for sure.

You act like Chun and Yun cant be beat and people who play Yun and Chun get free wins. It aint like that. Nitto, Pyro, Issei and Mester must be some no talent chumps then. Now I guess everyone should rethink calling Pyro the best in the US because he uses such an easy character. Instead we should be judging by who can gain the most pity by trying to impress the low tier players. Justin wong. Please. He sucks at marvel. He doesnt use Roll and Dan. Ricky Ortiz is a scrub at CvS2 because he uses A-groove.

It’s a 7 year old game with like 19 characters. And you’ll still see more variety in a tournament than MvC2 or CvS2. Dont be fooled because more japanese came down to school everyone with Yun and Chun. It takes 7 years for people to question the balance of a 19 character game?

Man, you need to play a half way decent Gill player then. With very little skill, Gill can wipe
the floor with most chars in 3s, and doesnt need to use super to do it(thats just a lil bonus
he can pull out later).

lol, this thread is growing so fast

as long as u can parry and do cr. MK to SA2 with Chun-Li, u need no skill lol

Which could be adapted to ANY game pretty much. But remember this…when stuff like that
comes into play, its now upto the PLAYER to step up they game, not the char they use.

^ ur an idiot if ur serious.

too many people posting on this thread, for the record im reffering to cam 387.

Lies. I hear people complain about Urien/Makoto all the time. But usually, the complaints look like “random Aegis bullshit” or “random Karakusa bullshit” or “Makoto is bullshit in general.”

For the record, this thread is retarded.

In Japan, there is variety between who is played. In the US, it’s Yun/Chun/Ken all day. Not that that’s a bad thing (I mean, in SC3 every tourney was won by either X, Sophie, or VC Mitsu. That game’s broken, though), but that’s how I see it. There isn’t gonna be much new stuff anymore, but if people like it, they will play it.

Shut your uneducated mouth. There’s an actual reason why we banned Akuma and the Japanese force you to use whoever you end up with if you fuck up the code. When a character has across the board 9-1/10-0 matchups(something that neither Chun or Yun have, as bad as you think they are), then you go “omg ban”. Until some noname scrub waltzes into Evo/SBO and takes everyone’s money with elementary Chun, the game is fine as it is.

On that note, I’m surprised this is still open. I won’t touch it though. Not yet at least.

Yay, Viscant wins.

Close thread.

and u care WHY?!

Actually Viscant was a little off; the recommendation wasn’t to ban characters, but to ban supers. Without their supers Chun, Yun and Ken aren’t that impressive. Chun loses almost all of her pressure and offence, Ken doesn’t have a million links into super anymore and Yun can’t play ghetto Wolverine style.

I think it’s something that could be seriously considered in favor of balance, HOWEVER, those playing money tournaments WILL cry bloody fucking murder because they want to take advantage of all the trumps possible.

I thought if you fucked up the code, you auto-lost.

hahaa
the japs came to evo and ruined 3rd strike

you called jay out and he responded with some good points, while your response (not to mention previous post) is just empty name calling.

So basically you are right, it IS obvious to tell who knows the game and who doesn’t.

how would this negate his point that the only effect would to make urien and makato the new top tier?
