Not this shit again.
I guess the only solution is if we just ban chuns SA2, yun’s SA3 and kens SA3 lol. Although maybe Capcom will see the fans frustration and see this as a incentive to release a new revision of 3s that nerfs the top tier and beefs up the low guys or maybe we can get a hyper street fighter 3 game and hope it evens things out. At any rate the issue of tiers is always up for debate…i just kind of feel like i wasted all those hours training with oro, sean and alex when i could have just picked chun.yun and ken and won easily with half the effort.
I was stating how CvS2 shouldnt be compared to 3S in terms of balance. Personally, i like CvS2 better than 3S. I think selecting SAs would be a much better idea and have more diversity if there werent any blantantly overpowered (genei) ones or overly crappy (healing).
yeah and no one would play the new revision. People like using top tier and other people enjoy the challenge of winning with mid/low tier.
just FYI
past three evos: a-vega_sak/bison/blanka wins. Kindebu 2x, bas 1x.
evo ST - dhalsim: cole a couple times, gian last year, a wolfe this year.
and without RC, CVS2 would bore people to tears. I think that’s the fundamental reason for all these threads popping up. People were bored watching the mirror matches and immediately thought of tiers. 3s can be tedious to watch but out of all the game it has the potential to be the most exciting (random parry). CVS2 is mundane to watch. ST is consistently entertaining.
we need a new game (capcom only apparently)
Funny thing is people say that in 3S anyone can win, when in actual fact anyone can win in ANY game
I think the parry system in 3S is alot like Texas hold’em. Sure the person you’re up against has an amazing hand, but you can still get the river card. 3S parries just offers a better chance for low tiers to compete, it stops them from being totally shut down, but it does anything but put them on an even standing.
Personally I find CvS2 pretty entertaining to watch usually because there’s hella footsies and zoning going on, whereas 3S kinda has less of that and a lot more dumb (imo) guessing games. I’d agree that ST is consistently entertaining though.
When did people start caring about tiers? Every game is like this. Every fighting game there is. Eddie wins Reload tournies. Ken/Chun/Yun wins 3S tournies. Blanka/Sagat/Vega/Sakura wins the CvS2 tournies. And so on and so on forever. It’s something to accept if you want to be a high-level player.
No thats not what I was saying. (and I wouldnt say 1 out of every 10, I would say more like 1 out of every 3, given the fact that there are tournaments everywhere, all the time and also people dominate in their respective areas).
lol @ ‘the situation’…the only situation is people here not knowing match-ups.
If the two players are on the same level skillwise and both know that match-up, then it doesn’t matter if ‘chun beats oro’, Oro got outplayed.
Look what happened at this evo, Hung (Oro) took out Raoh (Chun)…that happened because the cali-guys play allllll the time and I’m sure Hung has duked it out with Amir (or whoever) enough times to where he’s comfortable playing against a real solid chun.
It’s not rocket science…People just need to stop bitching, foreal.
EDIT: I’m not saying youre bitching, majestros. Just peeps in general.
exactly.
The next thread is going to be “why do asians (regardless of citizenship) always win tournaments? Maybe it’s time to ban the yellow.”
Kuroda’s hawt skills are sexy
Ironically, comparing Third Strike to a game of chance is the best analogy I’ve heard yet.
Well what do you expect, it’s an tournament with stakes on the line so people don’t take ANY risks just to be fancy. A risk with a mid-tier might mean losing. So I can’t blame people for never using anyone but Ken, Yun, Chun. But I’m surprised, I’m not seeing more Makoto and Urien. But I will admit 3S does seem very repetivitive to the eyes if your not really into it or don’t understand the game.
I think this is the weak point in your argument. Just because it happened once doesn’t mean that it shuts down the “Chun is overpowered” viewpoint. It always boils down to how many times you have to bait or outplay your opponent per match to win. Oro has to do it more times to win a round than Chun. In some cases it’s a matter of damage/combo potential, in other cases it’s one character being a lot safer while the other has to take dangerous risks.
Anyway the reason i think this debate keeps coming up is that there’s no clear-cut ruling. There’s a personal decision to be made here. Option 1 is to bite the bullet and learn one of the top characters and accept that 80% of your matches will be against those three characters. Option 2 is to stick with a weak character because of personal preference or maybe identifying with that character’s style, and accept the fact that you’ll lose more often than you’ll win. Option 3 is to quit taking the game seriously and find a game where you don’t mind accepting one of the first two options.
For me, i’ve gone with option 3 with 3S for years now. I tried option 2 (playing Ryu) but it got frustrating outplaying people all over the place and still losing. I tried option 1 (switched to Ken) but i think Yun is one of the stupidest characters in SF history (up there with Vega and Sakura) so i just quit caring.
WIth CvS2 i’ve settled halfway between option 1 and option 2 - my team includes C-Sagat to compete and C-Ken because i enjoy using the character even if it puts me at a disadvantage.
You’re never going to be able to convince 100% of the community to go with any one option. There will always be people who don’t see it your way. The only reason i participate in these discussions is to point out the available choices. But i would never tell Pyro to quit playing Yun just like i would never tell KSK to quit playing Alex. Everybody loses. You just gotta make sure that you’re comfortable with the reason you lost. For me, it’s always ok if i lose because i got outplayed but it’s not ok to keep losing to robo-Yun mashing on low strong on the other side of the screen.
Rik, instead of talking about it all the time, why don’t you take your Elena (Elena is still your main, right?) and hit up a big tournament like Evo.
Try to get as far as you can and then ask yourself, did I lose because I got outplayed and didn’t know the matchup good enough, or did I lose because Ken, Yun, and Chun-Li are just too good.
The answer might surprise you.
Very few players in the US can say they are on a top level in 3s. Just looking at a list of who entered Evo - Ohnuki, Issei, Mester, Pyro, Valle, Mester - etc. etc., anyone could have predicted the top 8. Noone should be surprised at what happened.
Now if for example RX, Kokujin, J, Match, etc. showed up, it would have been a different picture (Kokujin got top 8 last year with GASP Dudley), and we wouldn’t have all this “Whaaaaaa Yun-Li Whaaa” nonsense.
Another thing I want to mention is entering the tournament is a hell of a different experience than just analyzing top 8. At Evo 2k5, I sat and watched Sugiyama demolish his pool with Necro, I recieved first hand casual beatings by KSK’s Alex, and a handful of unnamed Uriens, Dudleys, KOFiends Yang, etc. etc.
Well I guess all those people who kicked my ass were wasting there time because they don’t use Yun-Li. Someone better go tell RX he needs to drop Urien for Ken so he can win more. If this is how you think I feel sorry for you.
Finally, someone else thinks Vega is a stupid character.
I hate Rolento myself.

WINS THREAD.
Healing isn’t crappy. It’s quite good, and Elena is quite underrated.
BTW Shaaaady is 100% right on all his shit, and is the best qualified SF player in the thread to be speaking right now.
Oh yeah, huge game of chance. Ohnuki, Mester, and Issei must be some lucky motherfuckers I guess.
We should all start playing CvS2 and bring it back :wgrin:. Any who, there will always be real peeps out there, KSK with alex, Kokujin with Dudley, Aruka with Ibuki.
But for the most part CvS2 has a lot more to offer in character selection, just look at the finals in this year’s EVO. You have Combofiend and Buktooth with crazy ass teams that actually work and place high.
I fail to see how actual proof/results (Hung beating Raoh) is a weak point in my ‘argument’.
First off, I’m not trying to argue as much as just speak my piece. This is a forum.
Second…of course Hung beating Raoh doesnt change the fact that Chuns over-powered, but my point was, she can be outplayed plain and simple!
Character specific corner crossups exist in practically every game.
Yun’s divekick is easily punished on Parry, and can be punished on block if the player’s execution is sloppy. Either way, it’s not all that bad.
And Unblockables exist in more games than just 3S.
It does happen consistently enough. Have you ever seen Aruka? This Ibuki player constantly takes out Ohnuki (best Chun player in japan?) at the Ranbat tourneys for 3S in Japan. Sure, this is just one argument, but it’s proof enough that a consistency is possible. There are plenty of not-Yun and not-Chuns that do great. 3S’s tiers have still been changing in recent years, too - what with Yang moving up in tiers a few years ago to second tier, and Makoto now being considered top tier (in japan, at least). Just cos it’s stale here doesn’t mean it’s stale in other places.

Oh, and just like ParryAll said, Healing is DOPE. Elena SA3 is totally my main, and I think it’s much more preferable to Brave Dance.
