3rd strike is the best game. If you don’t agree with me you don’t understand 3rd strike. Or more likely you have no brain.
No other videogame of any kind I’ve ever played deserves as much time as I’ve put into 3s over the years.
Also, as far as the usefulness of light attacks, isn’t cr.lk x2 one of the most powerful hit confirms in this game for the lucky characters who have it?
Indeed, cr.LK x2 is a fundamental part of Ken’s and Chun-Li’s flowchart

I would argue SF4 puts too much emphasis on jab/short. Almost every god damn thing is hit confirmable in SF4.
In SF2/3 if your jabs and shorts aren’t useful you’re probably just playing a crappy character. Hit confirming is really just the first use for these moves most people learn. Remember tick throws??
What’s wrong with Evil Ryu? He’s nowhere near overpowered. Akuma has far more tools.
whats funny is one of the most hated capcom games is now alot of peoples favorite
E Ryu was the best thing to happen to the 4 series
^ He’s funny.
Lol, I know some people didn’t like an extra shoto, but he isn’t broken. E. Ryu has been around a long time, it’s neat to play as him since has only been in Alpha 2 and 3, SNK and SNK2 and SF4AE.
Although I guess you could possibly count Marvel vs. Capcom with the Ryu swap with Akuma’s moveset. Not REALLY Evil Ryu though.
Well the thing with 3s jabs and shorts are that they aren’t very good because of 3s’s priority system in normals, lights get stuffed easily and there’s not too much use for them aside from stuff like ken c.lk x2, necro lp reset, etc. But nevertheless, those few times they are used are important, like hitconfirming.
About SF4’s reliance on lights, I think the concept behind them is actually okay. With it, every character has an easy way to hit confirm into a bnb combo and punishing small mistakes is easy, although the downside of this is your typical slow turtle fest SF4 gameplay, but the concept is good IMO.
funny, what i hate about SF4 is the complete opposite of why you like it. what i hate about SF4 is that light attacks like crouching jab has waaaaaay too much priority than it should. crouching jab or short should NOT i repeat NOT be able to stop any special move.
in SF4, lp/lk>everything else
why would a jab or short be able to stop special moves? i mean the whole purpose of special moves is that they have priority over normals. else, why even call them “special”?
in SF2/3 if you spam crouching jab…you’re going to get punished for it with someone’s special move, AS YOU SHOULD BE PUNISHED!!!
which is why SF2&3 are actually fun to play because then its becomes a faster paced, less defensive/turtling game!!!
Damnit!!!
damnit all to hell!
i hate hate hate how SF4 is boring as fuck to play. EVERYONE turtles online damnit!
Why?
reason:
lp/lk>every single special move in the game, except command grabs & a few EX moves
ugh.
its one of the many many reasons why SF4 doesn’t feel like a street fighter game. lp/lk>special moves? thats ain’t SF, thats just dumb.if a jab or short is going to stop a special move’s animations its going to slow the pace of matches down to a snail’s crawl.
in a game who’s engine is already slow as molasses…
Capcom!shakes fist torwards the sky what have you done to SF!!!
rabble rabble rabble, rant rant rant, turns tables over, throws chairs through windows, bashes head through wall
the only special move i can think of that gets stopped by jab/short in previous SF games is Blanka’s roll. there could be more, but the point is lp/lk shouldn’t be that strong of an offensive weapon. special moves should be able to cut through spammed jabs/shorts like a hot knife through butter. so that everyone doesn’t resort to turtling and spamming crouching jab/short.
spamming cr.lp/lk shouldn’t be so damn prominent.
and don’t get me started on how auto-block in 4 hurts rather than helps.
i swear mang,
SF4 is a game that HATES its players
That’s called a counterhit and I think it’s a good thing. The light attacks are fast (often 3 frames startup) but do little damage to balance the situation. I mean thats the definition of a counterhit, do you want any special to have invincible startup as those annoying dragon punched which are mashed all the time by bad players during blockstrings or frame traps?
I think SF4 vanilla was a turtle games , definitively yes.
But since super with the addition of the twins the game became a lot of more offensive. Suddenly the rushdown orientated characters where dominating the scene, which was a good thing !
In regards of evil ryu I mentioned, I obv. didnt mean he is overpowered (he sucks), I just dislike those super saiyan characters like him or Oni, it’s Street Fighter, they just wanted to get more sells to DBZ fans or something like that.
I dislike the concept of seth, a fast character with a command grab, tons of stun and hundreds of options.
I dislike El Fuerte because he is a pain in the ass to play against, he doesnt fit in the Street fighter fighting System too (just like Viper imo, but I think Viper is ok lol).
BITCHES DON’T KNOW 'BOUT O.HAWK’S JUMPING JAB IN ST
I was just wondering, E. Ryu isn’t top tier at all. But SF characters have been ultra powerful anyways. Akuma blows up mountains with a punch and nobody complains about him. I guess he just has an established base. Meh. I thought you were talking about his mechanics or something, lol.
See, I got the gist of your post and wanted to agree and take your credibility until THIS:
Being a Tekken player… T6 is lightyears worse than T5 -__-… Too much bound nonsense in T6… T5:DR was the immaculate child (along with Soul Calibur 5<---- This shit is slept on homie.) of Nacmo and should be, deservedly, placed at the top of the 3D fighter genre.
Back on point, 3S is the best fighting game of all-time unquestioned. I think a lot of people who play 3S would like SCV if they tried it.
I tried SCV and didn’t like it. It felt like Rock Paper Scissors for me. Virtua Fighter 5 Final Shodown looks interesting though.
Third Strike is myy favorite fighter. If I were going to get bodied in anything for the rest of eternity, it’d be this game.
Elena. <3
Well those games is what i *personally *had the best impression for 3d fighters. SC series never really piked my interests. Prefer DoA series over Tekken since its more fast paced and implementing mind games. 3S is a good game for the 2d enthusiasts but i don’t consider it the best. In fact no fighter is all round perfect for the old veteran and new players. If you want to talk about level of entry being the easiest then smash bros. easily takes this (meaning a dude who never played a fighter would suddenly enjoy that game and stick with it. Smash being a fighter was always debatable but the concept/control scheme is incredible simple). If its about being competitive/balanced/character design/game music/story/etc. then thats debatable with many other existing 2d fighters and it all boils down to *personal preference. *
3rd Strike is good.
Like.
REALLY good.
But.
Its close-range mindgames can’t hold a candle to Virtua Fighter.
Sorry.
