3 Tickets to Eurasia: Strider Team Building Thread

Thanks for the replies, guys. I’ll give the hard tag stuff with Zero a try. I’m also trying to find a character to lead off on point to play xxxxx/Strider/Vergil. I love the duo and I really enjoy Vergil anchor. I’m having problems finding that character that fits just right at the head of this team though. I’ve tried Wesker very briefly. I’ve also tried Doom which worked pretty well but found that the neutral game was lacking (not sure if it was the team setup or just my play.) The hard part is finding a point character that can both use Vajra very well and have a good use for Rapid Slash as well. Viper instantly comes to mind. I’m trying Morrigan out now and using Vajra to control the air and Rapid Slash to control full screen on the ground. I’ve been searching for this last character for a while and I’m hoping some fresh insight will help me out.

Give super skrull a go at it, his reset potential and frame traps with strider and vergil are too good damn near cheap,. His damage with vergil leads to kos easily since the last few hits of skrulls inferno causes a hard knock down its easy to DHC in to vergils swords for stupid damage and when you see them try to bait out striders vajra assist just kidnap them with skrulls long range cmd grab. Expect mail to flow in

Super Skrull is pretty cool with this team. Still gonna explore all of my options but there’s a lot of potential. I’ll be happy when I can find a reliable combo extension with Rapid Slash or Vajra but that’s just a matter of some practice mode and combing the Skrull forums. The potential of command grab shenanigans after a blocked vajra is really great and when I score a hard knockdown, I’m getting an easy 700k. That’s just the basic Skrull combo from air to air vajra hit to d+H etc. Pretty painful for just getting clipped by an assist. I really like that he packs in the damage so that when Strider comes in he can clean up and build meter with resets for Vergil to go wild.

I also tried some Firebrand stuff and was pretty underwhelmed. Vajra gives Firebrand a bunch of utility, sure, but it’s still rough to convert good damage and I’m not entirely convinced that having two low damage, low health characters back to back is the way to go no matter how much utility. If it takes two or three touches to kill vs their one per character things could get messy quickly. Strider first and Firebrand second is kind of cool. Legion DHC into Luminous Body lets you some cool mix up off of two bars but I can’t see the benefit of that order much beyond that. Maybe Chrisis or someone with more experience on the Firebrand/Strider duo can chime in.

Nova with Vajra seems really good. You can combo off of Vajra from anywhere easily with L Centurion Rush. Vajra also offers some cool reset potential with Nova. With order flipped, DHC from Legion into Blaster does solid damage. Nova second also gives Strider an overhead assist to play with. My biggest concern is with Nova’s neutral game since Vergil’s Rapid Slash doesnt really offer any cover or lockdown outside of the corner. However I’d imagine these guys would be monstrous with a better assist backing them up.

Anyone try modok (barrier)/doom (rocks)/strider (varja)?

i’m trying to pick up strider because varja is so good for modok and doom, yet i have almost zero experience with him. anyone have experiences with a similar setup?

when i was fist making my team of strider/thor/RR i had strider as assist character anchor. i was getting bodied cuz my opponents would treat him like D. Phoenix and snap him in. I play strider on point now but when he was anchor i stop relying on his lvl 3 ouroboros and learned his lvl 2 & 3 xfactor TOD combos. He has high priority normal and its easy for strider to get in so all i really had to worry about is not dropping the combo

I’ve decided to run Viper/Strider/Vergil. I kinda realized my team lacked an assist to help my neutral game. I really needed a point that could control, avoid, or get around playing it at all. Viper has plenty of juice to control the neutral game by herself. GIve her Vajra assist and she’s good to go. It’s no secret how great she is and after some work I think she’ll be a great fit. She is theoretically anyway.

Kensanity - I have a friend who plays MODOK/Dorm (dark hole)/Doom (missiles). I can tell you that with an assist to control the air (in your case vajra for missiles) MODOK can be super annoying. I couldn’t tell you about what Doom Rocks will do for MODOK since I’ve basically never heard of anyone using rocks but it makes sense to run rocks or beam there since having vajra + missiles would be a little redundant.

I personally prefer Strider with an assist so if I were you I’d probably run MODOK(Bomb)/Strider(Vajra)/Doom(Beam) so that when MODOK dies you have access to a strong duo in Strider backed with Doom beam. There are lots of arguments in this thread for putting Strider in the 2 spot and I agree with them. I think he shines there.

C.Viper is a great choice for point, she can zone, rush down and runaway her pressure game is great and that team goes with her well heres a video to show some of their synergy you probably saw it already though.

The ToD from Viper to Spiral Swords loops are really nice. Having that one touch kill on hand would be really convenient and I would also have Burn Kick assist after the DHC. Sounds pretty beastly while I have all three teammates but beyond that, the order seems like it really loses steam. Vergil/Strider is ok but not nearly as great as any number of other assists. Strider anchor can go nuts in level 3 xf but beyond that he really really stalls out being solo.

Keeping Strider in the middle means I can’t really ToD but if I can work in both Rapid Slash and Vajra as combo extenders I can still do some serious damage. If Viper dies then I have a solid back up plan in Strider with Rapid Slash assist. Strider’s awesome reset game is great for building meter for either xf lvl 2 orbs or for Vergil anchor to go wild if Strider dies and Vergil anchor with xf bar wins games, hands down.

The team seems really strong acrossed the board, it’s just a preference of being front loaded vs being back loaded. As a former Phoenix player I just like having the final boss at the end and lvl 3 xf vergil is definitely that.

crap the only reason I want to pick up this character is 1) I need an anchor for Dok/Doom 2) varja is so crazy.

I really am confused to who the best anchors in this game are?
wesker, sentinel, strider, skrull? Idk i thought those were “the best”

The way you have to look at anchors should be a Character that doesn’t really need help has a self OTG, resets and has a few bad match up but can handle most of the cast alone IE Nova,Skrull,Wesker,Sentinel and Dormmamu to name a few. The way I break them down there are 2 types of anchors, solid anchors which i described above and gimmick anchors. Gimmick anchors are characters that rely on xfactor for certain tactics like lvl 3 xfactor Arthur aka Dark Arthur who puts you in a permanent block string with his Lance projectile while lvl3 XF is activated and just chips you to death and with gold Armor it increases chip damage and also jill in mad beast mode with lvl 3 XF puts you in a permanent block string with her arrow kick, her recovery in lvl 3 XF is so great she can continually do arrow kick after arrow kick and she builds meter so she can go back in beast mode and do it again even if you push block properly you can negate the DMG but she will build back 3 bars, this is the reason she got a few nerffs. I would say Strider would fall into Gimmick anchor since he does so low damage and would be reliant on an XF Ouroboros for DMG output and TOD combos. He best shines on point and second position but if your going to play him anchor you have to master his XF TOD combos.

Strider is still a very good anchor. With lvl 3 xfactor and orbs he’s deadly. Even with no orbs and xfactor he’s really good. The problem is that without xfactor or very much meter he struggles for the damage to seal the deal. The reason I say he stalls is that when I used to run him anchor. I would get into positions where I would go into lvl 3 xfactor with orbs, go nuts, and then be like “uhh what now” and then most likely lose if my opponent was still alive. Now after playing him for a while longer in the second slot I’d like to think that I’d do better with him as anchor.

Personally, when I think strong anchors, I think of strong characters that have solid assists along with being able to hold their own solo and without xfactor. Vergil, Akuma, Wesker, Magnus, Dante, and Tasky all come to mind. I would probably add Doom, Hawkeye, Strider, and Ammy in there as well.

For that team in particular, I would like Dante weasel shot or Ammy cold shot, possibly Sent. I really like a horizontal lockdown assist on that team. It frees up Doom for missiles, which are great with MODOK. It also gives MODOK access to some combos into jamming bomb and I feel that’s where his real juice is (unless you could have gotten it with rocks anyway). Alternatively, when MODOK dies you have Doom + lockdown which is still very strong. Solo both Dante and Ammy can hold their own pretty well. Much more then Sent obv but dem drones man… dem drones.

What are the basic TOD’s in x factor? I only saw the lvl3 x factor ones in the combo thread.

thanks for both replies those are the kind of things I was looking for. Honestly, dok/doom/sent seems like the best team for dok and doom but I really just HATE playing sentinel. I hate him as a character and literally only like him for the assist. I’ll never touch wesker either, although jaguar kick does help with comboing jamming bomb.

I wish I knew a basic way to combo jamming bomb off of varja, but i dont. and that hurts a lot because I feel like varja and missiles are redundant AND i’m forced to use rocks in order to have a way to get a jamming bomb (can’t figure one out with beam). bah. IDK. This is an important decision for me to make as I am experienced playing dok/doom/skrull, but I personally don’t like skrull anchor.

Basically I see strider as another gimmick anchor, kind of in the same mold as dark phoenix/arthur/jill. Like if my opponent pops x factor it will significantly nerf my anchor usage… At least strider provides Varja which is by FAR, the best assist for Doom and possibly for Modok.

fuck IDK, I guess its a toss up between Wesker/Skrull/Strider/Arthur.

I honestly like to play characters with cool costumes and I dig Arthur’s alt. I just wish his assists were “better”. Perhaps daggers with doom and dok? idk

cmon strider people convince me that i can roll my face in lvl3 x factor or oroborous with this character and do ok!

XF3 and orbs at the same time isn’t really the way. You’lll kill the character your fighting right now but if there is another waiting you just ran out of resources to fight. Better to pick one, abuse it, then use the other. Strider is too fast for opponents to keep out/ block in xf3. If you feel vulnerable without orbs, just play more.

You can with 3 meters/xfactor : guard cancel xxragnarok for a reversal into dead character.
Run with xf3 strider, killing next character and building meter.
Use that meter to finish the third character when xfactor runs out.

of course when the last character is out you can combine xfactor with orbs and derp around but the above is the plan. Otherwise you will run out of derp juice and have to play resets with strider, which is good practice but harder to scrub out a win.

xfactor3 combo I’ve just been doing bbcs, double orb to otg, run forward hs bbcs legion, dead character. there’s better stuff using orb into teleport kick or gram’s. All his regular combo’s work too, but avoid them because they burn so much xfactor time.

Strider is not a gimmick anchor or character. Once you put them into block stun they should not leave without a risky guess. XFGuardCancel should not be an option for them as long as you remember to keep Orb summoned. Fire orb on an XFGC while in xfactor and you should beat/trade anything not invincible.

Doom likes Arther daggers. They are like task arrows with more time to hit confirm.

there are some small things to consider when strider is 3rd. Take a look @ wesker\akuma in the 2\3 position. Akuma tatsu will pin behind poke strings, very fast assist, stops projectile wars. Its very hard to use strider assist with poke strings to create a guaranteed pin, pretty slow assist by comparison and it doesn’t stop projectile wars as good as it should. So strider in the 3rd position creates some weaknesses overall for your team. You’re basically handicapping your mid game character so you can have strider 3rd and that shit can backfire. Easier to win the game with two characters rather than with just one. Another thing with strider 3rd is that it prevents you from using XF sometimes. There are a lot of ways to use xf1\2 to win the game outside of happy birthdays like dumping XF when people poke+assist because it may seem “risky”, dumping XF to kill a character when the next guy coming in is fucking bleeding bad. Those strategies become decisions rather than automatic

Does this team work well together?

Thank God there’s still activity on this forum. Was worried all the posters either dropped Strider or was too busy with SF x TK. Anyways…

I’ve posted about my team earlier in this thread as being Strider/Strange/Dorm. While I still feel this is a good team, I feel it is only good while Strider is alive. If he dies, I’m left with Strange with a not-so-great assist with dark hole. So i play the matchups with Strange as if he had no assists to back him up. The reason for this being as dark hole is quite slow and the possibilities of a happy-birthday are quite high. That being said, I was hoping you guys could help me out on a possible third.

I was at one point thinking of using Felicia/Strider/Dorm. But, my theory on this team is that Felicia can only control the air with Vajra and ADK while a beam assist would immensely help her ground game. Other characters I love to play are X-23 and Jill. The problems still arise where these characters HAVE to have a team basically built for them while providing no decent assist for Strider/Dorm (except for maybe X-23 as anchor where Dorm has an OTG). I absolutely 100% refuse to play Zero/Wesker/Doom (maybe not so much Doom but there are so many teams floating around that have him that its ridiculous)/Deadpool.

Any tips/advice would be great as I still like this game for the sole purpose of playing Strider who is WAY too much fun.

Look at Ryan Hunter videos how he combos Dormammu’s purification with Strange on point.

my friend mixup and I are marvel fiends, people know I play this game but I don’t think many people know that mixup still does. Since the game has dropped, we’ve been looking for strider teams hard.

mixup believes that Strider gives more to any team than he could take from a team. Therefore, Strider should be an assist. He mentioned how it was like picking cyclops in mvc2 and putting him on point. Cyclops could totally be a point character but never to the same degree as like Storm in mvc2. Cyke was great but he just couldn’t compare to storm while having a god like assist.

What do I think? Strider has some incredibly terrible things about him. His overall movement is awful. His teleports are all risky. Teleport kick can be punished on block and the other 2 teleports are so fucking slow that they’re pretty much non existent. Only time its good to teleport next to characters during neutral is when they don’t have XF or bar anything outside of those situations and he’s golden but how often is it that the opponent doesn’t have either of those things? striders whole game revolves around 2 things. Ground dashing and abusing the momentum jump cancel which is a 6f input, that’s all he has in terms of safe movement. By himself no xf and 1 bar, he can’t do damage either unless you give him specific highly unlikely scenarios. I got a 3 bomb combo setup into triple gram for like 800k 1 bar but you’ll never be able to land this consistently. The situation it needs just doesn’t happen as often.

Strider’s assist, vajra, is pretty good but it does have some glaring weaknesses. Some characters beat it for free on reactoin like zero, viper, hawkeye, magneto etc… and for some reason the tracking properties on the that kick seem shitty. It misses quite a bit of the time for w\e reason. and some characters just can super him on reaction like doom, mag, vergil etc…

good things about strider? best dash in the game hands down. Satellite might be the best special move in the game for what it does. 2f release making it the fastest special I’ve seen in the game so far and it beats xf attempts for free, +8 on block and if you throw it after a poke string, strider is guaranteed a way back in EVEN if they push block the satellite. Its free. Strider’s bombs have INSANE durability and I mean INSANE. Since you can couple bombs on the screen, 3 @ a time, they basically negate a lot of the shit in the game if they hit properly. Bombs durability on all of its phases are god like. Strider’s priority I will also say is one of the best in the game. Strider’s s.m will beat dormamu anything any angle iirc and that s.m is fucking 5f!!! its faster than some characters jabs like mag\dante. Strider’s s.h is another god like poke and S even though its -12 on block, shitty, is still a god like poke too even beating foot dive from doom clean. I try to steer away from S though because of how bad it is on block but if you use it with assists, its pretty fucking good for an AA OS. Jump H from strider is a busted ass OS but he doesn’t get very much life off it economically unless you have zero on it and jump S has very good priority too. Jump S reaches further down vertically than H does.

Strider’s ultimate theory I believe is this. He has to dominate the ground war. In close, he dominates that shit pretty hard. Lots of characters have a hard time with him when he’s in their face but the problem is dominating ground zoning war consistently. Mag can check the ground 4-5 times before strider gets a shot to check it once. If strider could somehow win the zoning war combined with his in your face pressure, he will make them jump which is what strider’s whole goal should be. Make your opponent jump. The reason you want this is because strider’s AA pokes are some of the best in the game and most character can’t hit a button against him if strider times his shit right. He’ll then get a decent combo, 450k ish and then get a follow up pressure mixup in which he will win the in close and zoning war again only to get the opponent to jump.

The in close pressure is figured out but the dealing with zoners thing will never be fixed because those characters can chuck beams all day and if strider decides to teleport, they can just cancel supers. Arthur, doom, mag, hawkeye, taskmaster all prevent teleports from countering projectile wars.

Given my time with Strider is limited, I can’t comment on all the stuff that Shoultzula has with the same certainty. But I have found that even though Vajra has some flaws as an assist, it also has quite a few applications for combos due to it being one of the few assists that ignores hitstun decay. I’ve definitely felt the tracking issues from time to time, but after putting a lot of lab time in recently, I have found that Vajra is one of the only assists that allows MODOK (my main) to combo both a cube and jamming bomb at mid screen off almost any hit.

And while a few characters can shit on Strider for free… cough… Vergil, Strider is still a generally excellent anchor with xfactor stocked. So, that coupled with having an assist that offers MODOK that kind of flexibility both in his zoning game and his jamming bomb combos makes it feel like Strider really pulls his weight on my team. It also helps lock incoming characters into MODOK’s unblockable setups now that I think about it. I am not sure if many other characters gain as much from Vajra as MODOK does, but it does seem like it has a lot of practical uses outside of the neutral game. It just doesn’t seem like it can fill the role of a primary assist for a lot of characters who need something that can secure a pin easier.

vajra for combos and resets is pretty fucking good. That is a huge + and it does shit on some characters like morrigan. Characters that float stall in 1 place in the air like morrigan get eaten up by vajra kick. The more mobile characters like zero steer clear quite a bit of the time.

The game is still brand new so I commend alternate teams. There is no way to tell what the best version\s are unless people pick them all. In the last game, I will even admit I was on the team clockw0rk train but deep down, I felt like strider\IM\doom was the best version and the sad part was that only 1 person for the entire life span of the game tried it out as their main. It had too much potential for only 1 person to pick it but that’s what happened.

modok\coon\strider sounds pretty fucking good but modok seems to like shit like drones a bit better and I absolutely love the idea of modok\xxx\strider. We have some serious modok players in my area so I know how good that character actually is and with vajra, he’s getting an extra dimension. I think with some more tweaking to modok\xxx\strider, its going to be highly formidable as long as you put work into your modok. That character has some awesome shit but it takes some technical skill to reach that level.
