2 yearold kills mother @ walmart

A decocker is no more a safety feature than the trigger safety. I assume you’re referring to a SIG. SIGs don’t even have safeties, at all. They only rely on the heavy trigger pull to be safe. Which…is functionally no different to most Glock/striker-fired designs, really. Glocks are designed so that the firing pin/striker is not anywhere near the primer, until you begin to pull the trigger. They’re basically always decocked until you’re ready to shoot…like a SIG, in a way.

My first thought for a purse gun wasn’t actually a Glock, it was something like an LCP or revolver, neither of which have safeties anyway.

The type of weapon she was carrying hasn’t actually been disclosed so far, so all we can do is make assumptions and agree that purse carry is fucking retarded no matter the circumstances.

It’s not the fault of the weapon design, it’s the fault of the mother for carrying it in a way easily accessible to other people. Not just her children, but to literally anyone; people have had their purses or handbags stolen with their weapon inside.

I was more referring to just having the extra protection feature of a safety, but I agree with you about the decocker. Most of the revolvers have a LONG 7+ lb trigger pull DA, I’m not so sure a 2 year old cold pull that. But if the revolver had a hammer and got cocked in the purse, I could see a kid pulling the SA trigger. Revolvers are pretty unpopular, other than myself I only know one other person at my gun range who regularly shoots one.

You’re a grumpy ass hole, but I gotta admit that full metal Jacket refference was hallarious. Guess I walked into that one.

My boss gave me a Walmart gift card, I’m not sure if she cares about my personal safety.

I see the old Serpent is back now, this place feels a little like the old days now. Good times.

All the good jokes have been taken. I’m a slowpoke.

Ok, in seriousness, what the heck DO you tell the kid when he gets older? I’m sure by now he’s wondering why mommy’s not around anymore… but still.

Sit down with the kid to watch Bambi…then when he’s a teenager, tell him he misunderstood the movie. He wasn’t Bambi. He was MAN.

Announcer: Yes, MAN: human in shape but satanic in spirit, Man likes to spend his spare time destroying things because he is worse than the devil if he was a pedophile. You can spot the especially bad ones by having 2-dimensional personalities, being written horribly, and having a chin size that even Bruce Campbell would be jealous of. They kidnap animals, burn down rainforests, and probably slept with your mother*. If you should see Man anywhere in your neighborhood, please make a pretentious animated feature with confused morals and no sympathetic 3-dimensional villains. Man: if there’s anything worse, it’s not human!

*They do mothers!!

We rarely have murders here (Sweden).

…Not many own guns, at all.

We don’t have Walmart in Sweden.

Maybe they are correlated…?

I bet the kid CQC’d the fuck outta her before he grabbed the gun. Baby Snake in the making? The safety’s off rookie.

Well, you got us beat on rapes, and on % of Somali, Kurdish, Afghan, etc immigrants (who are committing nearly 80% of the rapes). We don’t have nearly as many as you guys do. Our loss, I guess. You win. Guess your country is more peaceful.

Sensationalist bullshit imo. Seriously 1 in 4 women will be raped? Seriously, that is all these Muslims do?

Considering that Sweden is racist as fuck and the third largest political party is a made up neo nazi’s I wouldn’t be surprised if these figures might be a little skewed.

Edit:

Found some cliff notes for you scrub.

Wow, long-ass article. Not surprised that physical attacks on Jews are going on in an aggressively liberal country. I’ll have to finish it later. Anyway, back to guns…do other countries really view americans as stereotypical cowboys and gangstas? I keep hearing how in some countries, american travellers are asked how many guns they have, out of the blue. It’s like they think we’re gun-crazy…and why is it so hard to hit the shift key accurately with the barrel of a .38 revolver?

Rhios new year resolution was to take Zats racism crown haha.

Nah, just fooling around till I gotta go to work. Ugh, spent too much time discussing marvel movies on other messageboards last night, since srk was nearly dead. I’m a little interested in how other countries view us…do the tv shows they get from us with gunplay and shootouts in nearly every episode cause a negative perception of life in america?

I’m Australian - this means my perspective is either a good or bad example depending on what you’re looking for. Things would be much different coming from a country that has a more significantly different culture or opposes more of America’s global-political actions (public discontent can exacerbate stereotypes/negative impressions). Also obvious disclaimers about what I’m about to write being generalizations/simplifications, but politics aside I think what I’m about to write is an accurate reflection of what I’ve seen of how people think.

I’d say that most people are aware enough that they won’t think that any given US citizen is a assault-rifle-hoarding nutcase preparing for the governmentocalypse, any more than they’d expect them to be fat, stupid, rabidly Christian, patriotic to the point of believing that anything the US government does is automatically justified or just generally impolite/selfish (other common stereotypes). With that said obviously the things that become reported or talked about overseas are generally the more extreme cases so the extent to which each of these is true is probably still believed to be higher than it actually is.

Regarding guns in particular, most people are aware that the NRA is a powerful political influence and closely aligned with the right of US politics, and that there are far fewer restrictions on acquiring firearms than is the case here. The fact that there is a group of very enthusiastic gun owners is clear, but the thing that will vary from person to person is the belief of how large that group is; many conflate that group almost 1:1 with the political right and/or those who live in the South. If I meet someone from the US, I don’t normally think “this guy probably owns a gun at home and spends his weekends at the firing range”, but I wouldn’t be too surprised if they told me they owned one either. The gun culture is reasonably different here, as aside from law enforcement/criminals the main groups that have guns (with licenses, of course) would be farmers and sport/game shooters.

tl;dr People are different (and I’m sure a gun enthusiast from Australia would disagree with what I wrote), but I’d imagine most recognize the stereotypes for what they are. That said, the freedom with which you can purchase a gun in the US does seem a little strange to many over here (especially younger people who don’t remember before our regulations came in) and that can make people that might seem quite ordinary to you look just a little extreme to us - someone who wanted to keep a handgun on them in public ‘for protection’ would be seen as more than a little paranoid.

Gun enthusiast from Australia here.

When you’re raised in a disarmed culture, you simply don’t know any better. I’m one of the rare ones though, who had parents and grandparents who hunted and killed with guns to put food on the table for their family, so I not only know how to use a rifle, I know what they’re capable of and why they should be respected and treated with care.

Most Australians have never seen a gun in real life, let alone touched or fired one. We just see what’s on TV and what we read in the paper (read: Our print media is owned by Rupert Murdoch) and don’t really think for ourselves. The common consensus is “nobody NEEDS a gun to protect themselves”.

We like to boast that we’ve never had a massacre since Port Arthur, but that’s only because the definition of “massacre” requires 4 or more deaths (it may be 5, I can’t quite tell). People are still being shot every day, and we get the occassional incident with 2-3 deaths as well.

What the fuck you are you talking about, Canuck?
