Thank you…BASED CHIBI!!
Smash 64, still the best.
Oh the irony.
It hurts.
Seriously, all of you people who complain about the competitive community ruining the game (particularly Melee, Brawl really doesn’t matter because that game was ass for competition anyways) need to get their heads out of their asses and actually get some knowledge about the game. This is a fighting game board for pete’s sake. Don’t embarrass yourself with a lack of knowledge.
Fixed. /troll
The fans have nothing to do with it, it’s all Sakurai’s backwards ideology. Melee and the original Smash Bros. managed to appeal to different types of audiences, where as Brawl pigeonholed itself. As I’ve said in other threads, he wanted to reduced the gap in player skills, and instead of making mechanics easier to do/understand, he decides to balance the game where skill level is irrelevant. I remember all the times I’ve gotten my family and friends salty over kicking their butts in fighting games, but if that were today, they’d be even more mad that I beat them and I feel like I’ve gotten a shallow victory because the game decided that my opponent trips for no apparent reason.
exactly why this doesnt belong here
Yet everyone outside the SRK hipsters considers it a fighting game.
exactly why YOU don’t belong here
To get this topic not locked, I remember reading that at least for now, the WiiU controller will only be available with the WiiU itself. Please tell me this doesn’t mean I gotta use wiimotes again. While the Wiimote-Nunchaku setup is the closest you can get to an arcade stick if you set it up right, I’d rather use a wired controller so I don’t have wireless lag (does that really exist)?
Otherwise, if this decides to use WiiU controllers, especially with those new shoulder buttons (giving us a total of six), it’s gonna be tough to do multiplayer games like Smash on the WiiU unless it’s online.
They could just make a whole other controller for the WiiU. I mean they were playing with Wii Motes, so i’m sure they’ll make some kind of an awesome Classic Controller Pro U or something. No need for attachments or anything.
They did say the WiiU was for everyone. I’m really excited for the 3DS one too, portable smash seems boss.
Exactly why this game won’t have any ‘hardcore competitive viability’ or whatever term is being thrown around by ‘top-level’ Smashers. Have you SEEN the controller? No way in hell any complex motions or ‘advanced techniques’ are gonna be pulled off on that thing. Unless they do something with that touch screen for controls… That might have some interesting applications.
Oh and as far as ‘lack of knowledge’ goes: I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I have played Melee competitively since 2003… I’ve traveled all over the country and gone up against legendary players like Ken, M2K, Azen, Isai, etc… The community IS the problem with Smash, in the same way that the community is the problem with SF/BB/insert fighter… Too many niggas talking like they know shit, when in reality they’d get their shit pushed in by anyone with even passing knowledge of how to play a fighter.
In other words, a vocal minority speaking for everyone and no one with any real pull ever says anything to put these jackasses in their place. It’s even worse in Smash, because some of these same assholes are actually running tournaments and setting rulesets in place that match their own personal agendas. Used to be you could shut these clowns down by money matching them and putting them on blast, but now they have so many legions of yes men and toadies taking shots at you, that by the time you even get to the root of the problem, you’ve either forgotten you original purpose are too worn down/stopped caring to try.
TL;DR: Smash community ruins Smash for everyone else, and then bitches why no one will accept them.
This is coming from someone who used to play Smash semi-seriously (I didn’t know of any local tournaments at the time.), but I don’t see how complex motions or anything will be hard to do on that controller. Sure, it’s not the GC controller and the right analog stick is not where I would like it (I’d prefer it swapped with the face buttons), but I wouldn’t go jumping to conclusions.
I remember people complaining about how Smash wouldn’t work with the Wiimote-Nunchaku, but the day after they unveiled that thing, I made a comfortable setup that many at NSider found rather pleasing. And if anything, maybe you could use the shoulder buttons as your buttons for jumping, attacking, specials, etc. and would probably make execution a lot easier.
This is exactly why I said fuck the smash community and left, far to many clowns that make everyone look bad and ruin everything for everyone.
No, all of you who are forcing your ideals onto the game are in the wrong, not Sakurai.
Yes, tripping is fucking stupid. Really, really stupid, but outside of that all the mechanics are explained by the game. Dodging, shielding, grabbing, attacking, and so on. Once you start learning that one move is disjointed, or another has five active frames, and all that, you venture outside of the area Sakurai intended the game for. Of course there isn’t anything inherently wrong with taking it a bit more seriously, but you guys are so outrageously disgusted that the game doesn’t fit your competitive mold that you’ve seen fit to hack the damn game to fit to your liking. If I was Sakurai I would make sure to insert an even bigger ‘fuck you’ into the next game at this point.
I fucking love Brawl so god damn hard but it was cleary created without our 'hardcore competitive mantra in mind. It was made to be played at a fully casual, slightly (very slight) serious level. Yes, you can look at it as a dick move by Sakurai to have slapped the ‘community’ in the face like that, but you either take it as is or don’t play at all. The fact that you can play the game in a tournament setting doesn’t necessarily entitle that the game works well that way. In fact I still think it was an amazingly miraculous accident that Melee was playable in a competitive tournament environment at all (much the same way MvC2 ended up).
So you guys can either continue being butt hurt that he’s not catering to you, pouting on the sidelines as you continue to deform the game to one that suits your own needs, or you can just relax and play the game at a level where it’s entirely enjoyable and pretty god damn amazing.
Your choice.
i really hope that this new smash removes the option of turning off the items
Well, like I said before I don’t go to tournaments or whatever and I still thought Brawl was ridiculously sluggish compared to the previous games.
I’m not saying it’s a bad game, but the previous games had the gameplay down correctly. It wasn’t until Brawl came out when things started to change.
Brawl has no problems with its gameplay.
Hell, define ‘gameplay’.
cant you guys just enjoy smash for what it is?
if you hate or do not like the game, dont play or bother commenting on Smash threads…sure if you plan on getting the game it is ok to voice your concern and dislikes with it but just outright saying “smash isnt a fighting, it sucks herp derp” without having any reasonable logic behind what you are saying makes you look dumb…it just does
Tripping, the characters each horribly designed to move slow(And this goes far more complex then just movement speeds), The insane inbalance between the characters(Which the previous 2 smash games didn’t have a issue with).
Tripping I agree with. It being slow isn’t a problem or a fault though.
As for the imbalance, well that’s present in any fighting game, and unlike SSF4:AE, I would like to think it wasn’t done intentionally.
