Nintendo really should pay attention to the fans this time. If they make the game, make it less casual, bring back almost all of Melee’s mechanics except the obvious things like wavedashing and such, and actually add some new mechanics to the game that aren’t based on the party aspect of the game. Though obviously they’ll still want to add more items, characters, singleplayer content, they should focus on the online and it’s netcode this time so this game is actually playable online. With all that this game will be one of the best games available next year.
Melee player here and I love the hate comments, I seriously hope this doesn’t get moved. The people are right when they say: competitive smash community = shit. 
Don’t expect it to be anywhere as good as melee was or you’ll be disappointed. After brawl, I’m keeping my expectations low.

I bet this game will be just as good as Brawl is, if not better… Just keep all the items and stages on, and stick to multiplayer mayhem, and everything will be just fine… Stop trying to turn Smash into something its not and enjoy it for what it is.

You guys aren’t the fans of this game, you’re the cause of Sakurai having to market the game to a different crowd.
This game doesn’t need wave dashing, it doesn’t need L’ cancels, it doesn’t need SHFFL, it doesn’t need anything.
It needs two or more friends willing to play as Nintendo characters in an attempt to beat the shit out of each other by any means necessary, whether it’s by their own hands, the stage, or by aid of items. Stop fucking forcing your retarded competitive nature down this game’s throat, you will continue to further alienate your own god damn community and only prove to Sakurai that you people are incapable of enjoying the game of its own merits, regardless of how viable it is or isn’t for tournaments.

I think if you want a hardcore game as such, make it in MUGEN. Put those ideas to use. See how well it works.
The competitive community for this game should expand and just use the defaults instead of this final destination with no items bull. Look at MVC3 people complain about X-Factor if they had the option would they turn it off I would argue to the death that they wouldn’t cause then a lot of the matches would be pretty one sided and dull to watch and won’t make the scene grow. It’s not just about the hardcore anymore new blood is needed. We don’t need wave dashing, L cancel’s and all that other stuff, the smash community needs to except smash as a mmmm Wonky? Fighter and stop dumbing down the game with those stupid rules. If i get a 3DS or Wii U i would for sure get it, best series nintendo’s got (yeah even better than 3D Marios and Zeldas EAT IT)

I started going to melee tourneys when I was like 11~ so I never really got a chance to actually have fun with the game. Brawl was awful, even with items. Maybe this time I’ll get it so I can just fuck around with everything on instead of thinking I’m hot shit with “advance tech skills” because I can press Down B and Jump really quick over and over.

I agree with Master Chibi. Play Smash for what it was always meant to be, and don’t shoehorn it into something it never was.
That said, I do hope tripping is gone in this next game. And I want Little Mac in it this time.
Brawl is a shitload of fun. If it wasn’t for the people trying to force it into a tournament game, it would get a lot of respect for how fun and full of awesome details the games are. Too many characters in that game I enjoy playing. Capcom needs to steal that Captain Olimar; my homie is godlike.
Bleh, this was the title I didn’t want to see coming up, mainly because of the fact that Sakurai is pushing the “Do everything in my power not to make this game competitive” angle, and not the SRK “Hurrr durr, not faitan game” mentality.
And you can guarantee that’s he’s going to weed out anyone that would try to put competitive elements into the game from being on the design team.

Smash rules, I didn’t like brawl that much though (I played it like fuck though) compared to Melee. I hope they go with a more Melee approach.
Also, they should totally add Geno from Super Mario RPG in the next one.
I don’t even play Smash for any tournament scene at all. Super Smash Bros Melee was just a better game. Brawl is just very sluggish.
