Regarding trash talking:

Trash talking has, and always will be, part of the fighting game community. If you can’t hang, I’m sorry to say, but that’s just too bad. Also, NOBODY talked shit to ANYBODY they didn’t know yesterday.

Most of the stuff you guys are saying doesn’t even hold a strong foundation for credibility or truth. So, how about a history lesson? Anyone remember DPC vs Cl0ckwork? If you don’t, watch this:

The DPC vs Cl0ckwork match breathed a new life into a game and community that was in need of it at the time, so it wasn’t only one of the most entertaining matches ever, but it was equally as important (on several different levels). And just look at the goddamned video, it’s rife with shit talking! Aside from the clutch finish and epic background music (shoutoutz to Ross the Boss), can you honestly say the shit talking soured the match for you? Get real. :rolleyes:

There’s this stigma that enshrouds the SF community regarding our hype. You fuckers constantly bitch about how you wish we could get hype like the Marvel heads, but when the cards are down, you fucking fold! Like, wtf?

Ryan: Dude, you’re a nice guy, but you have no room to talk. I distinctly remember you, me, and gootecks talking shit about Paul when he first showed up and was snatching wins. And it was definitely loud enough that he could hear us (him and I had a laugh about it later).

Viscant: You don’t have any room to talk either. You’ve slammed down your tokens like an asshole, and stomped off mumbling shit that I can only imagine to be shit talk, on several occasions after you’ve lost. Granted, you’re not yelling anything throughout your match, but the issue you and Ryan are attacking is behavior; and yours is fucking piss poor. So, spare me the fucking lesson in ethics.

Who the fuck do you two think you are? You’re assholes, just like me, just like Sanchez, just like the majority of the community. We’re all assholes, but we’re all tolerant and mature enough to look past petty bs’ing from time to time. To be honest, you can’t draw a definitive line between trash talk and “hype”; they blend together almost seemlessly. So, in actuality, this isn’t really a discussion of behavior, but of tolerance. Hurry up and get some, so we can all enjoy the game together (since I have, and still do, look at you two as awesome sf4 players).

i think the hype or the “trash talking” is a must. It gets me pumped to watch matches that are fucking hype which then makes me want to play those matches where there fucking hype. from what i have seen the hype was usually between people that knew each other. if you can’t handle it then your one step closer to loser your match. dont let it get to your head! and get fucking hyped or else.

First off, let me clue you in on DP. Nobody’s laughing with him. We’re laughing AT him. From the whole “we up here, y’all down there” moment, to the point where he decided he was some kind of thug, to the point where he decided he was the first black emo I’ve met in 8 years, he is a clown. He is here for our amusement.
Does this make the game more fun? Does this make more people want to play the game? I’ll go with a no here. It didn’t “breathe life” into anything. There weren’t people who were like “wow, take a look at that guy acting like a jackass! I’m totally going to get some Marvel now!!!” Not even some of the people who that whole act was intended for.

In case you forgot the whole point of that was for him to get noticed because he thought the older generation was holding him back. The people he called out were the older players he thought he could beat. Like Duc, Clockw0rk, ShadyK and…there was someone else he made a special point of calling out. Someone who used to win every tournament for months at a time and take his lunch money every couple weeks. Someone whose butt he used to kiss every time that guy went to JG. Who was that guy? Oh yeah I remember now…it was me. So I mean, don’t try to tell me that his little attention whoring spree suddenly revitalized a dying game or anything when I was actually in the middle of some of that garbage. The people who were going to play kept playing. The people like me who didn’t give a shit anymore quit playing. Hearing him talk shit about me didn’t “fire me up” or make me want to release a youtube video to “hit him back” or whatever. I didn’t give a shit. He’s a clown and he can dance for my amusement when I’m interested and when I’m not interested, he doesn’t exist to me. Doesn’t make Marvel any more or less interesting.

Second off, as I said, there’s a difference between actually interesting hype and just noise and 80% of the shit that goes around these days is just noise, just people wanting to be heard. There’s no point to it. Like I mean, I don’t want to call out Sanchez, or seem like I don’t like him, because that’s not true but I’ll use him as an example. He doesn’t have beef with anybody as near as I can tell, but he is the loudest motherfucker in the whole arcade. And I mean, all that shit he’s talking has no point. It’s just noise. Yeah, shit talk has always been a part of the SF scene but there’s shit talk and then there’s plain noise.
Does everyone need that to get excited about the game? Really? I mean…what’s the point?

And I mean, if you can’t tell the difference between talking to myself and getting angry at myself and shouting in someone’s face, then I’m sorry. Seems pretty clear cut to me though. I’m not claiming I’m a saint or something. I’ve talked shit in the past and some of the things I’ve said have been (partly) responsible for matters of life and death. Yeah, I am an asshole, I probably have the worst attitude out of any of you but ever since then I’ve gone WELL out of my way to avoid talking shit or upsetting people, especially people I don’t know.

And I mean you don’t even need some random bullshit in your past to feel that way. If you really need random screaming and yelling for no particular reason to get you excited about a matchup and keep you playing a game then there’s nothing I can say to change your mind. I’m sorry. I just play the game because it’s fun and because it’s a neat puzzle to solve. That’s all I need.

Like I said, I can’t change your behaviors so if this is what you guys really want it’s what you’re going to do. Just keep it away from the new people and the people who aren’t interested.

I’m not trying to argue DP’s personality, I think everyone has an idea of how he is. But at the same time, you can’t discredit how exciting his MM’s were. Anywho, maybe he’s a bad example to use, but you should understand my point by now, as I’ve come to understand yours. All in all, it’s just a matter of opinion. Unfortunately for you and Ryan, the majority likes random screaming to excite them. Hopefully that doesn’t dissuade either of you from playing. And I promise to do my part to remind myself and Sanchez to show restraint in respect for new players, and players like yourself.

there was some hype matches, even in early losers, too bad we couldnt get them all on tape. special thanks to luka for running that $2 3S tourney

i think the hype level was not only warrented, but should be expected, so no complaints from me on that. as far as i can tell, no one got any bad feelings from it, and if they did, they should definetely mention that so we know its not cool with them. if the hype yelling isnt directed at you, just ignore it if you dont like it, damn

however, someone mentioned standing in front of peoples views, and i have to apologize, i think i was one of the people that did that most during the tourney, so sorry about that everyone, i’ll definitely work on that at future events, and repsect peoples viewing. i think i heard several people call me out on that, so i apologize
