Forgot to give a shout out to SoulIntake. That man has devotion. He came in from Astoria the night before, not knowing anyone, having no phone numbers, and no place to sleep for the night. I believe that this his was his first fighting game tournament. Hope to see this man at more events.
I didn’t realize that Cole was drunk. That actually would make a lot of sense, as his passionate diatribes grew in intensity as the night wore on.
Both on the way to and from the tournament, the different carpools that I was in were both highly temped to stop off at Tacoma and play SF4.
Haha the guy rubbing his nipples on the window of the IHOP … that was pretty ridiculous.
I hope Donald gets promoted to store manager. That guy singlehandedly could run that IHOP.
We tried giving him a big tip but he was too busy at first. Running around like an ER doctor going “Table 1 needs ketchup, STAT”. Finally got it to him
I was actually all for it. In fact, I was all for stopping at the Chuck E Cheese in Tacoma. I really dreaded the prospect of holding up the MvC2 tournament because we were fucking late. Wasn’t looking forward to being THAT nig. I mean, it’s not as though any of us (Pablo and Blake included) were actually going to place high in any tournament. We’re not valued members of the community. Our presence wouldn’t be missed. But shit, we would have ran any rotation on those redemption games. Skeet ball money matches!
Word, that was a very exciting set. I knew I’d be in for a very tough match but I didn’t expect it to come down to the last round of the last game. Good shit man
This woulda been fun, but it seemed like the tourney had gone over on time since things had to be wrapped up shortly after the finals. Unfortunately I think Portland would’ve been at a disadvantage for this one since we didn’t have Ray, who’s definitely our best ST player. Although I’m trying to catch up
Thanks! Was great chatting with you too. I got super lucky in our match and barely pulled out the win, but that’s ST for ya.
For some reason, turnout for Portland tournaments have been sadly low lately. The two Ground Kontrol tournaments could have had more players too, which is a shame since they’ve been a fantastic tourney host. I don’t know what it comes down to, I know sometimes people have other commitments and can’t make it, which is fine. But why so many of the pre-regs never bothered to show… (ST had 15 of the 26 pre-regs? ok looking at the list I know at least one of those pre-reg entries was bogus, but still)
haha, my friend schlagwerk (who doesn’t post here) brought that. We got a few people to play it, but not much. Too bad there weren’t more of the uncommon games.
(also, schlagwerk brought a DC which ended up being used for Marvel most of the time, which he was rather upset about because he wanted to see if anyone would play Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. I didn’t think anyone would play it outside of him, me, and Ross, and I don’t even play it all that much… but I guess you never know)
Totally agreed. Makes me want to step it up and get better at ST for real.
I got $15 for getting 3rd in ST so I thought there were 15. And I think 98UM had 11.
Here’s what I find curious - at Winter Showdown the Mexican KOF players of Portland were there in full force, playing KOF XI and even ran a side tourney that ended up getting like 13 or 14 people. NONE of them were there for this tournament. Weird. Perhaps they didn’t even know about the tournament?
I’m going to look like the biggest scrub in those videos. I got owned so bad
nobody posted 98UM top 4 so yea

Just about all the other 98UM matches I had in the tournament were extremely close. Especially the one with XTG, where so much crazy shit was happening and then it ended with him randomly walking into Joe’s tornado super. Completely bizarre ending. You da man though Nate, had a lot of fun playing you during casuals too
3S I lost to Mechanica first match, won against SuicidalGrandpa and tau, then lost to Fatbear who I was surprised to see in loser’s bracket so early. Oh well.
And like with 98UM, just about all the ST tournament matches I played were very close… with the exception of Jason Cole, who flat-out raped me :wasted: That made me a little disappointed with myself. I think the biggest problem I have is that I’m rather impatient, and tend to try to do attacks when I shouldn’t be. Otherwise I was pleased with my performance in the tournament and I have the hunger to get better now, will definitely be on GGPO more in the future.
Airthrow, good to meet you too after all the ST we’d played online. Sorry for not checking the buttons immediately when we started our MM :shake:
hey it was nice seeing everyone again. GG’s to all. Thanks to super Rat for destroying me in the finals. He taught me that mashing buttons is not a good tactic. Thanks to Seattle for coming down. Peace!
There were people at the tournament on Saturday who wanted to know how to setup dip switches in the DC version of ST. The following 2 threads on Alex’s site have all the info you need.
There were also some people who wanted to know how to get a copy of TDC2 or the EVO edition with all the color mixes. If you were one of them, PM me and I’ll direct you to the right place. Or, just show up to one of many gaming sessions in Seattle and someone will burn you a copy.
Personally, I think Pablo’s color mixes are the most polished (least buggy and fewest unintentional color flashes during specials), and he’s always willing to give people a copy of his most current release when you ask him in advance. He needs to make jab default color, though. And put MGS Cable back in.
