10/4/08 - Portland OR - PSU Random Select: Fall Showdown

Nate will be there, I won’t. Have to work =/.

Good luck btw fellas. Seattle is the best! gogogogo!

Any updates so far? Marvel? CvS2? Any crazy comebacks?

Cole won CvS2
t5 cancelled due to low turnout LOL WE SHOULD HAVE HAD SC4!!!

First place ST Cole
2nd Julien Beastley
3rd BBH

Good shit my nigs. Turn out was a little on the low side, but it gave the event a much more friendly feel. Very fun overall. Saw some new faces here and there which is always great. Totally worth the 350 miles driven and $80 in premium gas.

Again, thanks to Ross and company who helped run everything.

Special shout outs to the Oregonian Marvel crew. Good shit.

Thanks for a fun tournament everyone. GGs to everyone I played, esp. BBH and Cole for very fun matches.
Thanks to Brentoboxx, Doughboy, Mechanica for the IHOP experience

Julien

Just got back after dropping of Elias. Much thanks to Ross and company for another sweet event at a nice venue. Thanks to Pablo and zass for driving. SamY need to bring back the Jew-fro. Thanks to Theo and SamB for the backdoor action. I haven’t gone 2 and out in Marvel since. . .my last Marvel tournament.

Between gas, IHOP, entry fees, Voodoo, and random things I bought, yesterday only cost $70. Totally worth it, even though I ended up playing more ST than Marvel. ST players need to level up and make me go two and out, that way I can get back to Marvel casuals.

10 months later, Geesemaster still owns me. I wonder if he’d rape me at Marvel too?

Mount Vernon crew was funny for training in ST in the week leading up, but not entering the tournament.

The fuck are you talking about? We played one night for two hours after ages of not playing. I said some time ago that I’m trying to no longer take the game seriously, as it’s only ever resulted in frustration and havingto rebuild yet another stick.

A big thanks to the Random Select members for making this tounrament another good one despite such low turnout, and props to all the Oregon fighters!

Theo, Lawrence, and Sam: I’m gonna level up and get back at y’all before NWM next year, please believe. Good games also to Phong and Nate, and the Seattle marvel crew for keeping me at the bottom… for now :nunchuck:

Good games to Anthony and the Lili player in the casual DR games, I’ve been inspired.

And to Mr. Cole- Nice to finally meet you! It was really fun talking with you, you seem like a really chill guy with a vision and a plan for your home in the NW scene! Hope to see you make SFIV big before its console release, and I hope to see you make people step up in ST big time. Good standing jab, sir

Calm down, son. Some more notes from this trip:

  • When low on gas, Beasley randomly took the same exit that Pablo took the last time (the first of 2) into the barren industrial campus with no gas station. I recognized it, and we immediately got back on I-5 for fear of being pwned by roundabouts.

  • Beasley then happened to take the same exit that Pablo took last time to fill up. I curse the French of trying to remind us that deja vu is more than about skanky women.

  • Cole was far more intense this time in person, than when I first met him. I guess SF4 does that to a person.

  • Service at the Capitol Hill I-Hop sux during the hours when bars and clubs start closing.

  • Since the turnout was smaller than last December, maybe we should have done a region vs. region ST elimination event like they do at the end of every major Japanese tournament. Players from each region would each form a huge line and play single games until one team was entirely eliminated. ST is short enough and random enough that it would have been fun.

  • Thanks to Ross again for the Voodoo hookup.

  • I’d never seen BBH play ST before. Dude is pretty knowledgeable. Nice guy to boot.

  • I missed Lawrence’s Mandel impression. Many told me about it after wards. I hope that someone has it on tape. At the very least, the audio would suffice.

  • The turnout was much smaller than December’s winter showdown. I’d like to hear from people as to why they didn’t attend? What was different this time around?

  • Blake, forgot to pay you back for the dollar menu hookup. I know you’re sensitive about these things; as your past posts attest. Sorry, will get you back in the future.

  • When those Philippine-Afro-Americans were posturing at each other in the I-Hop, I was really hoping to see a brawl break out. Some bloodshed would have capped a most amusing trip. The part where the dude took off his shirt and rubbed his nipples on the window was lame. There a reason why Girls Gone Wild sells. The same does not apply to Guys Gone Wild.

  • Tekken players, way to support your scene.:china:

  • Much respect to Preppy for taking the winner’s semis with Rogue and Chun.

  • Thanks to Theo for giving me game 2 just to cheer me up. Before obliterating me in game 3.

  • I didn’t see as many casual setups for random ass games this time around. Though the TMNT: Tournament Fighters setup brought back memories. They were not fond memories.

  • Someone left 2/3 of a sloppy joe next to the MvC2 setup for 7+ hours. The imitation horsemeat was less than kind to my nostrils. I think I might have developed the beginnings a sinus infection as a result.

-Phongsack wins the award for least stable stick case I’ve ever played on. Fine craftsmanship, though.

  • Pablo, may those bottles of sports drinks aid you in your speed recovery from a future night of binge drinking.

  • Anthony had his own stick this time around. I even brought an extra one just for him, since he kept borrowing my T5 stick last December.

  • The Cole/Beasley ST grand final was possibly the first time I’ve ever gotten really into watching a live ST match. The level of play was most impressive.

  • I was so embarrassed when Pablo showed up an hour late to pick me up. After we held up the ST tournament for over an hourlast December due to being late, I didn’t want to once again be tardy and fuck shit up for other people. Then, through phone calls received during the drive, I was informed that Beasley, Brento, Preppy, and Rat were all actually behind us. I wasn’t sure whether to feel proud of being ahead of those guys, or even more ashamed of our scene. . . .

Edit: I heard that John Michaels was pumped about this tournament, and planned to attend. He just didn’t plan on it occurring yesterday. Hee hee.

Hey Dough, you really kept a good account of the night

And what Cole said, I should play how I practice! For sure, next time.

GG’s to Zass, Andrew (E. Honda player) and Air throw.

It’s finally good to see some of you that I play online!!!

-Guy in the blue beanie

games that aren’t guilty gear need a better turnout if <seasonal> showdown continues

Anybody record?

I know a bunch of ST got recroded thanks to cloudkap and Brent. Also Cloudkap got other random games.

3s Finals were recorded
CVS 2 finals were recorded
Zach got most of marvel I think…
GGXX winners, losers, finals were recorded (plus bunch of stupid crap cause they didn’t tell me they were done and left it recording shakes fist in anger
KOF I don’t know what got recorded though cloudkap got a few matches. He also might have gotten some of the T5 casuals…

Big talk dumbass, but yet i look at the signup roster and i see ST had the most people… but i think reading is asking to much huh?

what ross said

also, i think someone might have been recording some hella scrubby alpha 3 casuals.

Well reading the sign up roster shows who should have came, sadly not all those people showed up. Plus more than that showed up for other games.

When Im not so tired from staying up and playing poker I’ll post the totals but, if I remember right

ST = 14
CVS 2 = 9
3s = 11
KOF 98 = ? I really don’t remember less that what was said by a big margin
GGXXAC = 22

so guilty players came out of the wood work again. Also the level of play in GG was noticeabley higher than last time, I think it will only continue to improve, as long as blaz blue doesn’t own it up.

oh btw shit I have
Red Coca-Cola Towel ?preppy?
Elias’s DC converter says “not yours <3” on the back
Cloudkap’s mini cam but he knows that.
nates cds (sorry nate : ( seattle left before I could give it to them super duper sorry)

Also I haven’t actually looked through my bags yet, so take this with a grain of salt but I totally forgot and don’t remember seeing get put away my two pelican adapters…
Anthony did you just bring those back when you were done? if so they probably got mixed in with the club stuff, but if they are gone I will be sad : (.

GGs everybody, was nice meeting all of you.

good games to everyone i played rattana, Keith, pablo, zach and a bunch of other guys i forgot names. Zach we gonna have to have megaman battle next time Lol.
Next time around I’ll supply my 360 for SC4 if needed.

GG’s to Everyone last night.

Mechanic- Nice to talk to you that isn’t xbl lol. Seriously man you gave a great challenge with that Urien of yours.

Fatbear- Nice comeback, one more match and you came back. Good Shit.

Airthrow- Nice to finally play, next we should MM with our Boxers. GG’s man

98 Ultimate Match had at least 12 people.

I know the finals between Billy and bbh were all recorded.

Jason Cole, it was nice meeting you (I was James, one of the friends Billy introduced you to). Your story about Gerald and Donut Land was PRICELESS. LoL, man…you came back drunk as hell! When we left, we all said “Yeah, Cole’s probably going to take ST…even while being totally drunk”. LoL.
