What does the XX mean when explaining a combo?

For example:
c.jabx2 c.forward xx lk scissors

xx = cancelling (in laymen’s terms, inputting a button whilst doing a motion for a special).

Ex. c.jabx2 c.forward xx lk scissors would look like this…

Hold:db: and press :lp: :lp: :mk: (immediately press):r: :lk:

Cancelling is much faster than a link. With a link you wait until the animation is complete before you hit the next move. In a cancel you do the next move instantly when the first hits, so it requires faster button presses and faster stick movement.

hey guys, I used the six axis pad my whole SFIV life, and i’m pretty decent with it (compared to everyone here). but now i have a square gate hori ps3 fight stick, and well, it was a gift. i need some tips on How to get better with it. my main problems are…

execution
buffering (i ofTen find that if i do it too early,the move won’t come out)
holding the Joystick (is there a few constructed methods?)
charge moves (especially the down -> up ones. also, it’s extremely hard to execute those down -> up ones while still charging (down -> up back)).

What does the term footsies mean???

Hit confirming. Using crouching light kicks/crouching light punches/medium kicks/medium punches into combos. Commonly used to bait an opening out of your opponent. Like a previous poster mentioned, it’s like bobbing forward and back. Usually fun to do as it’s constant pressure of avoiding getting poked. :rofl:

Guys I would like to know what is the quota for gold on survival mode hard challenges?

Someone said 40, but does it goes for all hard survival stages?

Counter hit

What are the applications of the counter hit option in training mode. Other than telling you that you were able to sneak in a hit at the right time, does this situation allow you to do anything? Or is essentially just an indicator like the “technical” when you do a quick standup?

Counterhits also increase the hit stun that your attack causes. This allows you do execute some combos that aren’t possible otherwise.

IIRC you get +1 extra frame for light attacks and +3 for medium or heavy attacks.

And a slight damage increase. I don’t know how much though.

Quite a few, most Xbox 360 sticks work plug and play style with PC, some PS3 sticks work but its a little hit and miss I hear. Sticks like the Madcatz SE and TE work, as do the Hori line of Xbox sticks.
You could always get an older PS2 stick and buy a converter, that works also.

I believe a counter hit increases the damage of the 1st hit by 25%, in addition to the increased hit stun. The extra damage only applies to the first hit in a multi-hit move.

So for example:
An EX Sonic Boom normally hits for 50 damage twice, for 100 damage total.
A Counter hit EX-Boom would hit for (125%*50) + 50 = 67.5 + 50 = 112.5 Damage.

This is off the top of my head, so correct me if I am wrong. I’m also not sure about the rounding.

Dictator’s EX-Stomp on Counter hit does (200*125%) = 250 Damage. :bgrin:

I’m trying to do the challenges though and I’m getting infuriated by a challenge, i know it probably is real straight forward, but the penny just hasnt dropped for me yet -_-

I thought that to pull off this specific challenge you need to cancel? Cause I’ve threw a MK and YF at Dan but it didn’t complete, but i have no idea how to cancel a move, I’ve read multiple pages @ this site and googled canceling a ton of times, I get the deal with FADC, but i’m just totally lost and this challenge just doesnt seem like one where you are meant to FADC (thats if you even can :x), pressing the focus buttons after the MK does nothing, the move has hit, what is there to cancel? :x

Anyway I hope I’m totally wrong with the way I’m approaching this, and thought posting here instead of making a thread would be a better idea :stuck_out_tongue: so if anyone could lay this out for me i’d be supah grateful :slight_smile:

The cancel isn’t referring to a FADC, it’s just referring to a normal to special move cancel. Certain moves can be interrupted mid animation into a special move, and this is known as canceling. You are “canceling” the recovery of one move with the start of another.

This doesn’t require any special inputs like a FADC, you just have to do the inputs fast enough. In this case you have to be quick with the Yoga Flame motion. I’m not a Dhalsim user, but I think you have to use Back+MK because Neutral/Forward +MK does not cancel into special moves.

Cheers for the help, I’m spamming the Yflame as soon as ive done the kick but I’m getting zero luck ;x I just feel theres something else i have to be pressing in order to cancel the kick to get the Yflame or w.e, I’ve been at it for some time now D:
