I see now.
You got to do the :r:+:p: faster.

It is like when you hit your Medium Kick, you be doing Right Direction already.

Your c.MK is not getting Canceled, that is why Dan Blocks the Beast Roll.

ok lemme go practice it than.

usually when i go faster, the move never comes out at all, but i guess i have to find that sweet spot lol.

I’m just guessing, but maybe you’re not charging long enough. Just do the entire charge before you press mk. Then when you hit with the medium kick, hit fwd+p, and he should do it fast enough that it isn’t blocked. Don’t wait until the whole move animation is completed, just until the first hit registers. You’ll get it.

That’s the key to longer combos, when something registers as “combo 2-hit, 3-hit” etc, the moves cannot be blocked, opponent just has to stand and take the damage until your timing fails or the string is done.

Charge characters are more “advanced” than normal chars I suppose since you have to bother with charging in between other moves to do your specials and super/ultra. But eventually it becomes second nature to hold down-back while doing other things like jumping in or hitting light punches and kicks, so that you can immediately release the charged move when you land or is done with the short string. Thinking in 4/4 rythm also helps with the timing.

Heck, you even have time for an ultra after a level 3 focus attack if you charge correctly. You’ll hit before the opponent falls to the ground.

yeah, there’s that moment when the mk connects and the game kind of “pauses” for a split second. Do the f+lp then. Also, I don’t know if it matters but you said charge forward. You’re not actually charging forward are you?

By the way, nice mgs music.

i finally got through it. you were right, i wasnt doing it fast enough. im still a bit new to stick, so im gonna try to get in the habit of perfecting it. my execution on it now is like 4/10 which is a start lol.

i was actually doing it the right way, i charge down back, and than press MK than press forward+P, but my timing was off.

now im stuck at the rock crusher cancel to ball to focus cancel, ugh. i thought MK+ball was hard. jesus lol

thanks a bunch you guys

Just keep in mind that you can charge while doing other stuff, as long as you don’t move the stick from back/down-back/up-back position  It’s near essential in people matches, since just squatting in a corner charging up won’t do much good.

It’ll be easier when you get used to the idea. I think square gate joystick is best with charge characters, since it’s easier to hold down-back when the stick is in a corner of the gate. Won’t slip easily.

In theory, what should I be trying to accomplish when using footsie? I know no one can tell me when to use what, but aside from controlling space, what is my goal? Am I trying to whiff punish other normals up close? It is all about the range of my attacks? I know it might be tough to explain but any help would be appreciated. I have no footsie game what so ever and don’t know how I would go about changing that.

It means to keep yourself just out of the opponent’s reach, while you’re just within reach for, say a standing medium kick. So you walk back and forth alot to avoid getting too close. To do this, you have to really know the ranges of the different characters well, to know that when you’re standing THIS close, his c.lk will miss you, but you’ll still hit him with your s.mk. Sort of like boxers that move alot around the ring. If they stand still they’ll get owned.

Thanks for the great thread!

Could you add hardedge.org as the “German SRK” to the OP?

Hey fellas, I’m looking to get a fight stick for SF4 (coz I’m hooked on this lol!) on Xbox and was hoping to get some input from the veterans here as to where I should buy it. I’m from UK so I can’t afford importing it anywhere.

If you knopw any good deals below 70 then please do give me a shout, Thanks

is there a good guide or resource for learning how to jump in and cross up safely? I have no idea how to time meaty jumps to make them safe.

There’s lots of high-quality custom made sticks on ebay these days. Specially from a hong kong seller who I assume make them himself. You can also find the Madcatz sticks there but they are hugely overpriced.

This just takes practice and experience. You’ll have different methods of crossing up or safe jumps depending on the character. It also depends on your character so there’s quite a few variables there. Just try out what works and what doesn’t.

Here’s one tip though. If you’re gonna cross up a shoto who likes to reversal srk, I like to start my jump as their flipping up. That way, by the time their srk is at my height, I’m already safely over their head and can counter them as they come down. If they don’t srk, then I can attempt my cross up.

You can buy Madcatz sticks (TE AND SE) from their online store, certainly not overpriced…as you can get them for MSRB.

EDIT: If you can’t order from there, Amazon also has them in stock

Also, you can check this thread…Arcade Stick Availability

I got one off the first batch of MC TE sticks for 360 in april, so I’m happy as a pig in…mud

The custom ebay sticks usually price around $100-150.

you can buy stick from capcom themselves! just got it in!

Can someone please tell me how to play as the second player when someone challenges me in Arcade mode?

I’m definite I read it someone in the Street Fighter IV section but I can’t find it now. It’s probably a good idea to have the info here anyway.

k, thanks.

There is now way to influence this. If you are the host, you are p1. I almost always end up as host in arcade request mode (or whatever this is called).

Your only option would be to search for games manually and join them.

Just go to practice and practice the moves both ways. It would be very unfair for the opponent if one could have a certain side every match.

You could search for ongoing arcade games and join them I suppose. Then you’ll join as “Player 2” and the guy playing singleplayer will suddenly get “A NEW CHALLENGER HAS ENTERED THE RING”.

Shaquar and bytex,

Thanks for the responses.
