The most prestigious one I am accepted into.

If we posted videos of ourselves playing vs other friends, would you be willing to give advice on those? Or are you more interested in dissecting top-tier players and explain techniques/strats within?

My friends and I are not close to top level players, but we’re not complete scrubage. The reason I add that, is that it’s not a few people playing low tiers needing help from the ground up, rather players that have a firm grasp of the game.

I get better really really slowly, so I’m interested in this thread, I recently just wanted to start playing seriously again. I have a bad tendency to robot play, without thinking about strategy or anything just playing, and I tend to pay for it.

sure.

I haven’t heard a definite video or set of videos to analyze. I’m willing to do almost any, except my own that is. I love/hate watching my videos. But if you’re trying to learn sscable, i recommend you watch my videos. Or if you’re trying to learn cable.

If you take what I am saying and apply it I am sure you will improve. It just takes forever to rid yourself of bad habits and play your best every match.

I’m playing MSP. My question is, what areas do I need to actively work on aside from execution? My execution is average at best, I screw shit up, that should be un-screwupable.

I play 4 teams. MSP/ROW/MSS/Combo, but I want to focus on my MSP for now.

I know the mistakes I’m making, but am I not catching on to them well enough to adapt properly; making my game unable to move to the next level? I’m really like someone who knows the game, but cannot play it correctly.

Barring my execution, what scrub things was I dont wrong that I need to rectify, and what do I need to lose altogether.

This isn’t so much for potter, but I’m not a top level player, I just want advice to further my game, I have a small group of people to play with, and it makes it hard unless we push each other.

Any advice is appreciated, and it doesn’t have to be hearts and butterflies, if you want to be blatantly honest, I do not mind. I’m under no illusion that I’m near top-tier.

I’m MSP:

PS: Sorry about the voices in the background. T-Pain thinks my game play is chopped and screwed.

narc, that Mags was on point. I just saw a couple misses on the Rom, but other than that, good shit. Sent went down pretty quick.

I’m going to leave the response to your vid to Robust, but don’t be so hard on yourself. Some of you guys are way too hard on yourselves for this game. Let your confidence in what you can do set the path for what you want to do. I’m all good for humility, but when it came down to it, you pulled your target combos. If you want to get no-bullshit-deadly tho, only use deadly stuff…Robust will tell the rest

and wow at the wins/losses…how long were u guys playing??? this must have been some sort of monthly thing

Yeah we only play every once and a while, and usually in a small group, so the wins and losses aren’t all mine. (oh you meant the thing at the end. Yeah that is monthly)

Also it’s not really being hard on myself, we don’t have a lot of competition around here, and the game is so old, it’s hard to get up the money, or will to travel to play a game we’ve been playing for such a long time. I personally tend to play, and don’t even look at my super bars half the time unless I’m using cable.

I feel like I can get better, but since I live 2 hours from SVGL and SJSU (do they even have it there anymore?) it’s just my small circle of friends. I figured if I asked for his opinion, I can get advice to better my game.

EDIT: I’m a big boy, I can take criticism, so don’t feel the need to baby any advice at all. I know I can’t fuck up rom’s and what not, but don’t feel the need to hold back at all. Wont phase me, I’d just like to get to the next level.

I don’t think this is true at all. I don’t think it’s his goal, I just think it’s his distance where he can do something and Magneto can’t. Sometimes embarrasso’s get in and they think it’s GGPO for Cable, then they catch a limb and GGPO for them. It’s just as dangerous for Magneto to be in there. Some Cable players even leave an opening because they like the up close coin toss.

cable can only do damage when the other person makes a mistake

isn’t really a matter of distance

narc, don’t do dash under low rh resets, and if you fuck up on rom often, just do unmashable tempests earlier on in the combo

It is his goal, why give Magneto the chance to go pringles in the first place. Aside from a quick DHC Magneto really doesn’t have much options against Cable from full screen. You can make arguments that Cable has advantage in various close situations but don’t forget that Magneto is the king of rushdown for a reason. In my opinion letting a Magneto player get close is giving him an advantage compared to just staying away. Plus playing a keep away character pisses people off which should make you feel better and make the opponent play less focused.

Deus, Cable players make comebacks amd punish when an opponent makes a mistake, but chipping works from the start.

potter\deus, do you think reading stuff like this can help improve your game?

http://books.google.com/books?id=9PEpyzH1rtYC&pg=PA123&lpg=PA123&dq=bruce+lee+understanding+the+opponent&source=web&ots=zszjSavTHi&sig=TMqnXillnnD3fOWHfOU7FcsXzl4&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result

i know some of it won’t transfer over but I think some of it does.

the purpose of chipping isn’t to do damage, it’s to pressure your opponent into making a mistake (sj air dashing at wrong time, running into a grenade, get hit by commando, etc)

it’s also to frustrate your opponent (which again in hopes of him making a mistake)

but the cable player is going to get frustrated long before i do, since as soon as cable is on screen i’m hitting the skies

yes, def

art of war as well

marvel is still a game of strategy

Thanks for the advice, and I don’t usually mess up on the rom. Other than the rom > sj. lk > dash under lk reset, do you have any suggestions for resets that are more viable? I really only have the slide, sj.lk > dash under lk, and the sj. dash over hp hk. The reason I usually reset is that I have a 50/50 chance of landing the HG xx Tempest when facing the right side.

Non-assist would be ideal.

didn’t expect a reply so fast. I was still editing my post but hey, I got help!

hmm

I also have other q’s.

What are the MAIN differences between good amateurs and pro’s?

I’ve always wanted to know if playing multiple games @ a high level will make you a better player overall?

When playing against other players who understand anti guard cancel tactics, what are some ways you guys counter that? Shit is a bitch when magnus keeps coming in…

yo deus, since you’ve read books on understanding the opponent, is there one floating around where its coming from the perspective of a defensive master?

zz

I can wait, I’d appreciate your advice/view, but like I said, I’m in no rush.

Thanks. I’m actually very defensive, but sometimes Mag will get in and dashing below him or the standing HK seems to keep him more respecful, or so to speak.

As for nades, since you rightfully won’t tell all your secrets, I’ll share a few things I picked up from vids and maybe you or Deus can comment on it.

If my opp blocks a sj HP high (I fall much earlier than him), I usually do a lk nade at jump level protecting Cable’s head, which I copied from JWong (he is the guy from which I stea most tactics, since so far is the one I’ve seen more videos of).

I do this falling lk nade from below always if they escape my sj HP, and if they block it many times I let it explode closer to midscreen. I almost never throw a full screen air HK nade. Good players seems to get around that easily with any top 3 characters. Against Sent if the fly after I did midscree nade I do c. HP fishing for AHVB.

Sometimes if I have frame advantage and I’m far (like after an AHVB) , I do tk lk nade + drones. More often than not I’ll let the nade explode right in the middle of the screen. If I’m not feeling that safe I rather let them explode very very close to Cable (I hold just a little so I can let it go much closer than if I just tapped the button).

When my nades explode midscreen, or even sometimes in close, if my opp isn’t grounded I may dash so the nade hits them, and I can combo with j lp hp, death.

Against Mag, Storm and Sent I avoid throwing grenades from an above position. I rather fal blcking or with Lps. I do it against Cable if they’re landing while I’m sjing, so it’s safe, and Cable isn’t that fast to wavedash and throw me like Sent or wavedash and triangle me like Mag and Storm.

If I notice that I may be hit because I misjudged the timing for a normal jump HP I try to let a nade explode right in front of me. If the opp launches Cable he can’t finish the Ac because of the nade.

If I have my opp in a lockdown with drones I hold the grenade fully. If it’s not safe (like if I mistimed or didn’t call drones) I let it explode midscreen.

If I did j back HP + assist and they either got hit or bocked the HP I do a nade midscreen or a little closer to me. Ideally in a height where it can prevent both jump level rectangle jumps and straight dashes, but I don’t always get that right.

I also like to use nades to change the timing of my fall from sjs, or in some combos to kill assists, but those only works if their main character does something wrong.

That’s about all I know, asides from fancy useless stuff. Any thoughts?

The above response to the post above that - LOL. LOL Bill for coming up with shit that makes people hella laugh!

LOL @ the MSP breakdown!
