Mastering the spd in the in the landing frames seems to be something I’ve been missing. Correct me otherwise, but i find myself being thrown a helluva lot after a jump in tick. Technically toe to toe you have a mere one frame to complete the command throw to beat his lp+lk once the block/hit stun has elapsed. So its tight enough already.
Now sometimes when i empty jump over spd, the animation almost looks as if Gief grabbed in the air. Other times it doesn’t look as nasty of a scoop. This seems to be completing the motion in the landing frames and the game executing the moment you land, no?
On another note…I always get frustrated bc i seem to be able to hit links WAY better from a jump-in than starting on the ground. So imma weirdo, this pause actually helps my timing where it effs other people up…
I had problems with this before, but then realized I could use the same timing for ground combos as long as my air attack did enough stun, and I could wait until landing to start my link. The common splash, for example, deals plenty of hitstun and blockstun for you to land and wait before starting your jab or short combo.
safe jump vs 3 frame DP?(ryu akuma)
safe jump vs 4 frame DP?(guile cammy and maybie balrog)
safe jump vs 5 frame DP?(sagat seth)
safe jump vs 6 and more frame DP?(honda bison)
Ok, basic to basics, needed help with EX GH through fireballs
So i thought i had this down but now playing MUCH MUCH better players I realize I was doing this with a little prediction and at the movement of the opp. So playing folks who tighten up there plasma once you’re range and who use a load of feints, how are some of you Giefs EX GH on reaction??
I think also my motion effs me up because i use a real “z” motion hitting three points and generally this isn’t so fast. I don’t play dp characters so never really fine tuned the dp on reaction reflexes.
I play this reDONKulously turtle-ly sagat, Odin reborn, and he feints so well i end up eating toooo many fireballs in ex gh range.
I think your motion is just fine. Maybe you just need to up your speed on doing the z, and on reaction to recognizing what’s a fireball and what’s a feint. Practice and Get Faster.
If it comes down to that though, and you know your opponent likes to fake and he’s trying to bait, just don’t play that game. Continue to bulldog, so you can get past the ex-gh range and into the normal poke range. This is easier and safer, with you only having to worry about going forward or backward on the stick instead of wasting effort buffering in a z motion everytime your opponent flinches.

I have some general tips. For walking DP, go into Training Mode and get some reactions practice in at different ranges. Make sure the motion you’re using is easy, quick, and efficient. It might also help to practice recognizing and reacting to the first few frames of the fireball. With Ryu, for example, look for the changes in his stance, or at his arms forming the fireball. Don’t forget that online, it is much harder to react to projectiles at mid-range, so don’t be afraid to block sometimes too.
i just recently had troubles with a really good rose player. I just recently found out how ridic her backdash is. i cant punish it with ex-gh. she would zone me out with fireball, slide, or backdash and then soul spiral. crazy… how do you guys deal with her insane backdash?
Similarly to what WorstGiefEver said, cornering her and working the corner are very important. Yeah, she has a crazy good backdash, but that also means that every time she uses it she’s getting that much closer to the corner. MAKE her use that backdash about 4 times and she’s cornered. If you notice that she’s ALWAYS backdashing during blockstrings, then throw out a psychic long kick at the end of one. That’ll teach her.
Rose backdash abuse is your ticket to free green hand knockdowns and 720s. If you see a Rose that’s abusive about backdashing you can set yourself up for a green hand 360 or 720 situation for soviet damage.
Na, you can hit it. I know I do some highly unsafe things on wake up and even a df.HK will tag her back dash. I wouldn’t really recomend doing so but just sayin’…its propably the best backdash but its still highly vulnerable if you get the read. Do a lp.Ghand and you’ll fall short but be in range for the grab.
Requires slight prediction but its not hard to guess that Rose will backdash since she ALWAYS wants to get away from Gief. Work on your timing and you’ll be golden.
okay cool, i guess i gotta test it in training mode. thanks.
oh, if you are wondering who that rose player is, look up Edricindahouse. 3500pp 12000 bp rose. so he’s good.
Yeah, I’ve had some good luck tagging Rose backdash with d/f RH, I know its not my best move, and I can pay for it if I do it habitually, but it does a good job of reseting the situation…until I DO land my big damage comboes/throws.
Definitely saw it. He just started making good reads. You were winning that in the beginning Art is just really adaptive and Roae is stupid versatile. I liked what you were doing. Also good to see you back in the building. I’ve been stealing material from you left and right since you came back. Your matches against Andre made me rethink my approach to Bison.
Where I’m getting murdered these days is Akuma. DF is > than all my options except unreal reaction 720 U2. Tge solution I think may actually be to block more. I may be wrong. I have trouble getting damage consistently though. It’s rough.
Also for the record I can post a replay of me bs edricindahouse if it would help i may have kept one I’ve seen him in ranked and won. He ABUSES backdash. But he also corners himself doing it. Lock him down and don’t let him out once he’s there.
