Impatient Seth vs. Gief is only slightly less horrible.
He fights a lot like Sim, but you can’t fight him like Sim, i.e. bulldog him into the corner and then rape.
Just play solid and don’t fall for jumping over booms into his fist. You have to force the Seth player to take risks. This is not easy to do, but if you just jump over booms, going on the offense, you’re only playing into his hands.
Also, don’t be afraid to take chip damage from booms if you don’t like the situation. You have a lot more health than he does. This is, in my opinion, the biggest mistake that Gief players make when fighting any fireball characters. Sometimes simply blocking the projectile and taking chip is your best bet. You don’t have to jump over every one.
Thanks for the tip, I dont have problems with shoto but sim and seth I do. Sim teleports and and i chase same with seth. I am going to try this out and hopefully pull some wins out.
When faced with the “spam projectiles and throw out pokes when I have the life lead” situation, is there anything special I can try to get through it, or is it just patience/EX green hand?
What I do with projectiles is green hand, Focus or KKK. KKK is quick and you can get close and focus is good gives you some meter. WHat I learned is that when you get close to shoto they usually jump in hard kick then sweep. When you get close enough they jump in do a lvl 1 focus hit them and go for the grab. Works every time for me.
This is a terrible strategy and I suggest you stop doing it. Focus is never a good option for jump ins and especially not gief’s focus. It might “work every time” for terrible players you meet online doing jump HK, sweep. It will never work for someone that knows how to play the game. If they’re jumping in, you should just AA lariat.
MP thunder knuckle is at worst -1 on block, so there’s no way you can C.LK the recovery. It can be up to plus 3.
However, crouch MK/MP only does 13 frames of block stun, and MP thunder knuckles takes 14 frames to come out. So you can EX SPD or ultra between the two since its not a true block string.
A bunch of Rufus have started using u2 as a anti air on wake-up. Cross up knees trades with it and you get knocked out of the vortex and can punish when the ultra finishes.
Anyone have any good Cody strats I got beat pretty handley by seb a few nights ago. I can beat mid level codys so badly it’s kind of sad but if they know what they are going I can’t seem to get the knock down and when I do get them down they seem to slip out of my vortex with back dash, exzonk block then neutral jump vs my ticks. I think I might have been drunk during these matches so maybe I was a bit predictable.
The seb matches were Sunday so they won’t be on my list but a kind of scrubby Cody did talk shit about gief after I 3rd round perfected him last night so I can upload that and maybe some more.
I love when dj’s do that unless they are spot on with there spacing you can empty jump ultra/spd punish that. You need to space it so when you jump the sb the slide would punish mk or hp but won’t hit empty or empty short jump you need to be pretty far away but if they are tossing sb’s when close punish with exgh.
Go with the tried-and-true bulldog. Walk forward, block the projectile, walk forward. This works well against Cody because the rocks has a longer startup time than other projectiles.
Hey guys, i have a tourney match against a really good sim coming up and i read through the gief-sim match up on the front page and all i wanted to ask was how effective is the neutral jump headbutt in this match up cause i use it extensively but saw no mention of it in the article.
Am i better of just lariating when i get him in the corner?
whats a good way to keep pressure on keep away games…constantly i keep getting pushed outside by fireballs and great pokes whats useful way to move in?
