Zangief Strategy/Match-up Thread

this is funny because i do not smoke anything not even ciggs. but in germany, cant you smoke pot? isn’t it decriminalized up to certain amounts? nice assumption.

Pretend like your fighting Gief. Same principles. You can out poke him, out damage him, prevent all of his nasty dmg options, and you KNOW when he’s going for certain things. Abuse s.mp and s.Rh. You see a roll, RBG actually is fun…though don’t expect to do it mroe than once, and yes SPD is a better bet, butt its one of the few times you can get away with doing it.

GG Clyde, whish we could have gone more, but right after we lost connection, before I could pause or anything I got into a match with a Seth player. Such a fun match-up. Gief was worthless, but Bison and Honda destroyed him heh…so did my Dan (been training with him a bit heh…still trying to reliably combo his Ultra without lvl 2 FA)

just noticed if you start a match against blanka with KKK forward he can not ball or slide you slide will wiff and you can spd him of cours he can punish kkk somewhere else but its a nice suprice against slidy blankas

Able is free
least most of them are…
just spam s.mp and s.hk
mp beats pretty much every normals and hk beats crack shot aka wheel kick if ur hk is out before his.
and hk moves u closer so that gets u in the rage of mp.
careful with spd/super/ultra cuz his throw got throw invincibility…
but if u guessed his command throw, by like jumping up, its ur turn to throw.
and risk on is throw is way higher than the return.

I played a Rose for a few games and beat it a few times, but I caught her hit-n-run game pretty good, her normals are pretty swift.

Has there been any concrete matchup info on her yet, or is it still in limbo? This is like only the 2nd time I’ve seen someone play Rose.

here are some things who are itching me…

  • what is the best option against a backwardjumping boxer (with firce or roundhouse the one how beat lariat and greenhand clean)

. what is the best answer against chuns streight legjump

  • what is the best option against dalsim to get in?

  • are there only two options against camys on wakeup? either block or throw? does cannonspike realy beat everything else?

  • what is the best option to punish akumas divekick after a fireball ?

as for rose I have only seen 1 on xbl who is any good. His gamer tag was saqs and he was as tough a fight as I have had up at that point. If they know the match up rose can really limit your opitions and give you some serious problems. Luckly everyone other than saqs on xbl g1 isn’t very good. A guide would be nice but I’m not sure that rose has been mastered by enough people yet to get a good idea what the best tactic would be.

I like Saq’s Rose, its a similar playstyle to mine (in your face keep throwing’em).

Online its a tough fight just cause of lag/latency…she gets the ‘walk into fireball’ thing with her -> RH and d/f mk. to me she’s a watered down Dhalsim with a crummy anti-air (c.fp is unreliable and her ST is even worse), so thats how I treat her.

Just make sure that when she starts laying the c.mp/c.mk game on you to nail those reversal SPDs, they beat her ‘throw’, and hurt like hell.

Be careful with jumping distance. A good Rose can read where your attacking and counter properly with c.fp/ST, but c.fp will often trade against j.mk, and headbutt crushes a ton of her stuff…except ST, so dont’ spam headbutt (speaking from personal experience on that one lol).

Rose has no real fireball game agaisnt Gief. Her releases are too slow to prevent you from bulldogging. Just walk into her f. rh range and be patient, she cna’t push you out as far as Dhalsim fortunatly so its not as bad/annoying. If she pokes alot with s.mk/rh or the fwd variants, you can easily lariat those if your reading her.

I’d like to try my j.fp on her, the angle on it should beat most STs and beat if not trade with her c/fp…but I havne’t tried so I dunno (shrug).

I was playing FORGIVE ME, 2nd time Ive fought him. He’s pretty beast with Rosie.

I think j.rh is a great move to stuff people that try to meet you in the air. (Seth j.fp, Chun j.fp fp) Why isn’t this move being used more often?

For me ‘personally’, I think j.rh is his best air to air attack against people with nasty air games (read air throws/chun-li/etc), but I love his headbutt sooooo much. Its a NASTY habit of mine that gets me in trouble…I’ve fought so many bad peopl online that I keep thinking random headbutts will get me a stun. ESPECIALLY against Rog since unless timed wll it beats dash punch and I’ve clean beat HIS headbutt with it before (hilarity ensued as he was dizzy and it was the begining of the second round)

Good shit are you gonna make a strat for C Viper?

I don’t main Gief, I main Elf. I’m not picking up Gief at all, I just have a question:

If I’m close and Gief pulls off his Ultra, am I basically screwed? As any character?

Common answer. Nope you are screwed if you are aren’t jumping and are in range.

Never be next to Gief, always jump and bait his ultra, eating 80 damage from lariat is a lot easier on you than eating a 600 damage ultra

I faced a Ken once who ultra’d after my ultra and hit me (could use a frame data confirmation of this because it feels fishy). I almost pooped myself. He’s the only character I know of that can do something like that.

You guys probably inputted your ultras at the same time. His ultra might have more invincibility than yours so you lost. I’m sure gief’s ultra would lose to a lot of ultras if they were inputted at the same time.

I’d like to see this 80 damage lariat you speak of.

it does 120/140 for PPP and 110/130 for KKK.

And if hit, you get put back in the exact same situation.

Always jumping will get you killed.

Don’t you play Gief?

There a concrete way to gain control over a mid-distanced, Hadou-happy Ryu? I squared off against a Urbansouljah(solid Ryu, hit him up) online, and he really kept my ass at bay.

Aside from Boxer, Ryu is the one character I haven’t learned how to fight quite well against yet.

Lol, i can’t see why Ryu’s would spam hadouken’s once you have EX green hand

Start of the match, just build up an EX bar.

Absorb/KKK lariat through fireballs.

work your way in through neutral jumping, KKK lariat, and smart jumps.

Learn what ranges you can safely jump and not be hit by SRK or S.RH.

Once you’re in GH range, it becomes a poke war

He’ll use c.mk, you can footsie or stuff it with S.lk or C.LK xx green hand

if he sweeps, punish on block or whiff with EX green hand, it’s -14 and free.

if he starts useing c.MP or s.MP (the good ones do), switch to s.LP, S.MP, and C.LP. buffer the LP into green hand if you can do that.

Also, use S.MK VERY Judiciously to stuff Ryu’s pokes or hadous.

It’s crazy laggy, and can be punished by quick ryu players.

Once you knock him down, beware of SRK xx FADC

If he FADC’s forward, that’s free Ultra/SPD if you have reversal timing… so work on it.

So I had a long play session over one of my boy’s spot ad learned something vital as Gief…

I hate Sagat’s rh…all of them, every variant. I need to up my patience in this match, I got baited into too many ‘jump over fireball and trade j.mk with his s.rh’. Once I got in it was over…Igot a couple perfects under my belt, but after every move Gief does, it sees like ‘rh’ is the answer hehe.
