Zangief Strategy/Match-up Thread

na its realy hard for able to space it so well i gues if you try to punish every on of them with mps you get at least the chip damage back! you only need one bad spaced he need 10 well spaced to dea more damage… and if you know the spacing as well you can predict his wheel with hk or ex hand realy easy

I think it really goes to the skill of the Abel player man.

Yeah, it does. It’s not a good idea to assume that your opponent is going to place a wheel kick where it’s unsafe on block, because Abel can beat your standing strong (or whatever) after the wheel.

for sim and seth, throw in knees at the last second and hit their streatchy arms(c.hp,st.hp). after a few times they will probably change tactics since they can’t take even minimal damage from jump knees. This is obviously a tactic to use when jumping projectiles from them.
and rog dash punches can be punished by well timed st. mp and mk. not well timed and you eat a dash punch. (st.mp is so quick that it is the best option)

Hi guys, I don’t main Zangief, but I have an interest in him as an opponent and potentially as a mess around character some time in the future. I would like to know if anyone could tell me how his short jump works and how to do it.

Thanks.

Okay, now not only do I need advice on turtling hondas but turtling blankas too…
I have a feeling I need to perfect the kara hand…

UltraDavid do you play on 360 or PS3?

this should definitly go straight to the matchup core text!!!

anyone heard of a method of auto ex green hand after landing c.lk/lp?
seems like there’s a way to input the ex gh very quickly after the lk/lp if the lk/lp connects, gh comes out, if it doesn’t connect, you’ll just see lp/lk

useful when you are just outside of ryu’s cr.mk/hk range. if your c.lk hit his leg, auto ex gh.

if you are only using gief as a mess around character than do not come here for help. this is the for tournament use only forum. no fun or messing around here. strictly tournament uses only. sorry.

LOL you smoke to much^^

623 lk pp

the green hand wont comeout unless it hits.

Now that I’m seeing a ton of Abel’s online(sigh) now, is there a general strategy against him? I’ve surmised that if hes far, he’s in control but getting close to him I’m having problems with, namely when they’re turtling or spend the whole match jumping all over because of a lack of options.

I also found out the hard way that nothing beats a meaty twirl throw.

nothing beets giefs meetys either actualy abel is giefs easyest matchup! move carefuly in respont on wheelkicks throw him out of rolls make a good mixup target a knockdown and then play wakeup game its almost like playing gief by the book no special options or so just plain old simple way like in my tutorial for beginners mentioned

Abel’s TT is unthrowable. If he’s doing TT on your wakeup, just back dash or jump.

Think about yourself using Gief, those throw setups most of the time are so obvious you can neutral jump. His cool down from a wiffed grab is even worse than Zangief, you can do anything you want if he misses.

thanks.
pp a few frames after lk?

pp pretty much immediately after lk - like a late cvs2 roll cancel lol.

I find it faster to do d/f, d/f lk~pp.
