Zangief Strategy/Match-up Thread

mp only links into itself on counter hit. And the window for s.mp into s.lk is extremely small. You’re probably not going to hit it very consistently if there is any sort of lag involved.

thats bullshit^^

startup 4frames advantage on hit 5frames…

I stand corrected.

I’ve only seen it connect on counter hit. It’s a 1 frame link so I guess that’s why I don’t see it very often.

I fought an Abel like this online and I found out that when timed right, headbutt beats out heel kick. Try it out in training mode, its silly fun.

Wheel kick loses to anything high. Standing jab, standing strong, standing roundhouse, and some lariats all work. The best idea is to react to wheel kick’s startup with ex hand, but I know that’s essentially impossible online.

actualy i hafe most of my expirience online… in some offline games i feel like a sportsman trained with bodyweights and then try the same thing without bodyweights

honestly online is no so bad deal if you manage the most online its much easyer offline^^ but why whould you react with exhands? HK is quite good against it^^

to beat the wheel kick you needa spam STANDING HK, stuffs it clean.

Yea, St.HK all the way! Its even funny when they try to do wheen kick multiple times and it just gets stuffed over and over. EX would be smart in a clutch situation though. A good Abel is gonna try and pop that out and you propably won’t have time to react with st.HK.

IME it all depends on the placement and strength of the wheel kick. at the distances which s.rh works one could also crouch ppp lariat and it should either beat clean or trade with exgh followup. however there are distances where none of these options will work on reaction…

so on the conservative side, one could also block and followup with s.mp.

edit:iow what reaper and ultrad were saying…

Ex hands is good because it can be timed really late on reaction (since it’s immediately invincible) and because it causes a knockdown, and when you knock Abel down, well, that’s one of the most easily controllable and profitable situations in the game. Abel can fake wheel kick in ways I prefer not to give to Abel players, so the other ways to beat wheel kick aren’t that good because you have to immediately recognize that the wheel is coming in order for them to not be hit by the wheel. Ex hand’s invincibility means you can wait until the last second before starting it, giving you enough time to recognize the difference between the fake and the real thing.

So I’m having problems with neutral jump fierce from E. Honda. If it’s thrown out, it can go straight into hands, so it can’t be blocked. The jab into hands is fast enough to make focus not an option. If you walk towards with roundhouse, he can neutral push back, and hit your foot clean. Lariat is hit clean by the fierce, the best I could come up with was ex-banishing flat. Problem with that, obviously you only get so many of those. However, once you get a knock down, you can work a 50/50 to keep them down. (I’ve noticed that even if you make a deep cross over, they can sumo splash and push you back to the front side)

What have people been doing to combat this?

Re: Honda- someone was saying earlier that focus attack can beat it usually and I’ve tried this and it works for the most part - as long as Honda does the fierce early and you absorb the hit high because it takes a few frames for the hand slap to come out - giving gief enough time to hit with the focus attack.

in other news - personally the s.mp, s.lk link really isn’t that hard. Just press lk when you see the mp make contact cuz mp just has so little recovery frames.

I just lost to 2 Hondas tonight that did nothing but turtle. I won the first round and they decided to turtle. I’m finding it difficult to get in when they are doing that. If they just throw out attacks, I can get them. But if they just sit there waiting for EX headbutt. I can’t jump in or else I eat the headbutt. If I try to walk closer, I eat random headbutts. I guess I just have to be better about getting closer. But they are smart enough to not throw out moves which are punishable. If I play footies, I tend to eat a headbutt. It’s very frustrating…

Crouching lp to hands ducks under the focus and hits it from my experience.

against hondas neutral firce hands there are those things
-focus
-well timed early HK
-SWEAP! <-- he can not block since he performed a air atack and sweap has a nasty faar range!
-Air to Air -MP- or air to air HK (last one tend more often to trade)

against the headbut the c.mk works wonders if you are to slow to reakt with lariat^^

@ultradavid

ok thats a thing i did not reconsider actualy i tend to just punish the weelkicks after block with mp combo becouse its a save knockdown without much risk

What I hate about playing online…
Sim s.fp
Guile EX SB
Honda EX HB
Rog Dash Punch

Those moves are ‘laughable’ offline when used as a purely defensie tool…but online they come out kick and that lag/latency kix in and you get hit even when blocking. Its a nightmare. Turtle Honda online…my olnly ‘scrubby’ suggestion is akin to what I read about the ‘Seth’ fight.

Just eat it. If he doesn’t have anymore EX, then the threat of EX disappears. He loses any of his gnd-air AA, and is stuck using j.fierce for AA, which you are prolly good enough to bait and counter. But trying to play ‘around’ the EX, you eat more dmg than just eating it - just like with Seth’s ultra. Of course you don’t TRY to get hit, but just take the lump if it comes and keep trucking.

Yeah, the lag is definitely a factor. Not being able to instantly block is a real downer… :frowning:

LP HB and ultra still work as AA, although Honda has to be psychic for the latter.

Wheel kick is only unsafe if placed poorly, good Abels will make it safe on block every time.

Against Juicebox Abel, if I don’t ex banishing, he’ll get safe chip every time. Once in a very blue moon he’ll be punishable on block, and he, even before I punish with SPD or st.mp he’ll audibly acknowledge his distance mistake.
