Is it crucial to start with up-forward/backward for walking 720?
Ps: Tried doing Super instead of Ultra and for some reason it works much better. Is there a difference in inputs/leniency between them?
You can use 360 + 180, starting from any position, but that’s more difficult to execute on a square gate. You don’t have to start with :ub:, but this is honestly the most efficient way for you to fit the first :u: in your buffer.
Examples:
[]:db::lk::ub::db::d::df::f::df::d::db::ub::3p:
[]:f::mp::ub::db::d::df::f::df::d::db::ub::3p:

:u::hp::ub::db::d::df::f::df::d::db::ub::3p:
No, there is no difference.
Thanks, man, will try it out.
Ps: I’m not playing on stick. And not even on pad. :B
In that case, if you’re using a button joystick or a keyboard, just hit :f::d::u::d::u::f::3p:. If you’re using a Wii Remote or EEG helmet, then I don’t know what else to say.
Nintendo glove, dude. :triforce:
You know what, i actually got it. You should hold up-backward/forward at the end. At least in my case.
Update: Or not. Still not as consistent as i wish it to be.
There are two parts to the buffer: (1) :ub::db::d::df::f: [walk], and (2) :df::d::db::ub::3p: [720].
Okay… I need to figure Gief out again in AE. What the fuck do I follow up an EX hand with?
- SPD
- A poke
- OS greenhand (specially teleports)
- U2
idk thats all i got
AND BLOCK!
Super random question but how close is Zangief execution-wise to vanilla sf4? Are most of his combos/os’s the same? I’m asking because I’ll only have access to pc sf4 for about a month so no AE/SSF4
His BnB’s do alot less damage and cr.lk xx EX GH combos are 1-frame links now. So you are forced to learn “extended” combos for max damage and these combo require multiple 1 or 2 frame links in the sequence. Some of them can be awkward to plink (cr.lk) or not plinkable at all (st.lk), but that up to your training mode/execution level.
almost all zangief’s combos become harder from vanilla to super and AE
far st lp used to be +8 on hit, now only +6
not to mention the ridiculous cr lk nerf.
So, being a terrible scrub at all things SF and a new Zangief player, I have a question regarding playing him. I’m still working on getting the combos down pat, but in the meantime, how do I deal with characters who have moves that seem particularly safe? I was just playing against a bison player who would pressure me with scissor kicks quite a bit and I wasn’t sure how to respond. I got him with a light SPD once, but that timing seemed a little tricky.
Edit: and that most basic of questions. Right now, I have trouble against people who tend to spam fireballs a lot. I try to keep my options varied in moving through them to get closer (lariat/jump/focus), but I still seem to get hit by a lot. I assume that much of that is just an experience thing, but are there any good techniques to dealing with it otherwise?
Ex-hand goes through fireballs. If you are not in range to do it or don’t have meter, just block the fireball. Block fireball, walk forward, block fireball, walk forward. You move closer while losing some chip damage but gaining better positioning.
Does it seem to you guys like Gief jump mk is worse? Feels to me like its hittable hitbox is worse at the back and its hitting hitbox doesnt extend quite as far in front of and below him as it did before. I don’t know if that’s accurate really, might just be me imagining things in a new game. What do you think?
I dont think it changed i havent noticed anything and i use that move a lot. Also zangief jumping hitbox is huge. Just wanted to reiterate that fact because its stupid that its so big.
Well he is a huge dude. It would’ve been stupid if it was girly small.
It was like that in super. The worst example is against Dhalsim - jump over his projectile and press jumping MK and the projectile will hit this huge invisible hitbox behind gief’s extended foot. Has driven me mad in many matches.
On the subject of weird things - I think there might be a glitch with Gief’s standing MP in certain situations. Sometimes I walk forward and press st mp and nothing comes out - and it isn’t my stick. Every time I do it online I forget to check the replay, it happens live as well. If I remember correctly, it happens in a wakeup situation - I think the opponent’s. I will make sure to record it next time and study.
Oh that’s right, heh. Guess that show you how much I played him in Super, think I’m probably still used to the old Vanilla jumping hitboxes.
Quick questions for the Gief veterans…How exactly do you control the trajectory of U2.
I know I can control it obviously by holding left and right but how do I make it faster/slower/higher/lower…heck sometimes I keep a direction pressed and it slightly goes that way and then stays neutral. I just want to know to optimize it’s usage and to make a getaway if I make a bad read :X!
