Zangief Q&A: Ask simple questions here!

Another thing I have been trying to be more mindful of is how I set up the end of fights. I like SPD and Suplex waaaaay too much; and I tend to land them whenever I can, which is usually early in a fight and I effectively train my opponent to not let me grab them anymore; which makes the end of the fight much harder IMO. I have been trying to notice grab openings or wakeup deficiencies and save that for later in a fight.

Anyone else approach fights in a similar way?

I only SPD/Suplex when it’s certain most of time. I don’t really use Meter so I try and Super/Ultra too much as opposed to 360’s.

How do I st.lk xx ex.gh o-s without gh coming out on a whiffed st.lk?

Some will respond with “just do it fast” but that NEVER worked for me. Will give credit to worstgief who pointed out not to just tap but that you have to HOLD the punch buttons in the command.

Some sort of Negative Edge thing happening here. I dunno magic to me. I hit my lk o-s’s like 99% now.

***Only at 50% for lp, but that’s only because i have this weird coordination thing where i cant press lp, then lp+mp (my preferred EX GH buttons) without pianoing and phucking up the whole thing)

Pressing fast in SSF4 doesn’t work. You gotta time it in your head.

Negative edge is your friend in this, as Trini said.

I don’t know if I believe all the hype about negative edge. To me whether you let go or press the button it’s the same reaction time.

Helped me in 3S and helps me in SSF4. idk.

Found this on the Japanese Zangief BBS:

Hitting cr.lk and cr.HK at the same time gives different results based on your positioning.

Do lp then mp+hp. Trust me, it is 100 times easier and more reliable. You are just delaying the inevitable by doing lp then lp+mp. I do use lp+mp after lk.

Now I end up holding all three buttons. I find it easier to hold the poke then the ex buttons, it seems easier to do the whole thing that way. I will try to make a video explaining how i do it, as 90% of giefs I see don’t use them.

I don’t think you understand the concept. I will try to explain in the video.

The good things about suplex are:

  • It leaves you closer to your opponent
  • You can safe jump afterwards

As you are closer to your opponent after a suplex you don’t need to waste time whiffing green hand to get close again. So you have more options on the opponent’s wakeup. You can ambiguous short jump with knees, splash, empty jump or knees to grab, or safe jump (empty or whiff knees) to bait a slow reversal (like balrog headbutt) then punish with ultra.

OK, I have made a video showing option selects to GH for the newer players (or anyone who does not know how to do them). I will do another video showing hands + stick.

Does anyone have a video tutorial on short-jumping? I’ve read how to do it but I don’t think my jump height has changed.

UltraDavid has an Gief Option Select video with short jumping covered.

I have a question about jab/short OS EX GH. It comes out regardless of Gief hitting or missing limbs of the opponent. Is there an input missing, should i delay punches? What am i doing wrong here, fellas?

Are you holding the punch buttons down after pressing them?

Woah! I need to?
Ps: No,i don’t. Hitting once.

Dude I just posted a video explaining this, 3 posts above your question.

I should state that if anyone has anything to add (Videos or guides or w/e) to PM me.

Haha, dude, sorry. I was tempting to ask it days ago and this thread was kind of dead back then and i had my text ready. Thanks,a great help. I’m stoopid.:clown:
