Majority of people donât give a shit about the story, Ryu was main for SF2 and his story didnât mean shit. Alex was on the box, heâs in the intros a lot, every magazine and feature about SF3 probably used Alex, SF3 marketing was very Alex heavy. I think heâs even first on some of the character select screens.
Thatâs why Iâm talking about âstayingâ the main character. You can market as much as you want, but it doesnât mean anything after the game is out. Especially over a decade after the game is out. At that point, any observer who looks at the game doesnât see him as much more special than Dudley or Ibuki unless they know the story.
Changing a main character in a long-running series is hard. Series that do it successfully do so by giving the character the same level of support that the original had, and making the story, setting, and characters distinctly about the new guy. Capcom should have understood this, since they were such Jojo fans. For example, at least give him more unique interactions with characters - Hugo is a good one, but not enough.
Iâm not saying anything about Alex specifically here, but Capcom didnât go into their decisions around him with a whole heart, and it shows in the reception of his character and the development of future versions of the game, which did nothing to dissuade anyone from a Ryu-centric view.
I mean, that might have been a lost cause from the get-go, but if youâre going to attempt it, you canât go halfway.
If Zangief doesnât have Green Hand, how is he supposed to force you to stay grounded? His air grab is going to need a hard read to work, whereas EX GH could be confirmed from low shorts.
Also, EX3 Cold Pipe is definitely Giefâs best theme by far. Intimidating as fuck, just as it should be.
No green hand changes him a lot. At least his dash seems to be good, instead of the pathetic dash in SF4.
I think his v-skill and v-triggers means he will just walk up to people and scare them into the corner, or scare them into SPDs. IF you are a good reader with the v-skill. Gief has always had good anti-airs in one way or another, and good air-to-air attacks, even ignoring U2 in SF4, doesnât look different here, though the jumping elbow into air spd trick seems hard.
Wonder if no green hand means no more good combos; the video of the guys looking for combos was pathetic, but I guess he will have at least one BnB target combo thatâs decent. Could easily be just them having bad luck. But he seems they focused him into grabbing only.
Saw some gameplay videos of him, his options seem quite scaryâŚ
Dude has air SPDs now, so you are able to TK an air SPD I suppose. If you press a button he can suck you in with his V-Trigger. Thereâs also crush counters which I assume are his roundhouse and standing fierce which have long range.
Yeah Zangief looks scary when thinking this way⌠but again itâs pretty early to tell so yeah who knows⌠itâs gonna be interesting to see how he will turn out to be when the game gets released.
What Iâm most curious is the range on his spds and frame data, considering the low pushback on normals and how everything is very punishable. Forget about gief attacking, just having to attack him is scaring as fuck.
No stupider than NRS who allows the same organ to be destroyed multiple times in the same fight if you use the same X-ray twice. Just how many testicles does Scorpion have anyways?
I think both Capcom and NRS filed it away in the âwho really caresâ category, cuzâŚwho really cares.
Actually, CA does 2 hits normally. The combo with the jump MP did 3 hits. So, yupp, he comboed into his CA.
