You know you could have just edited that one post instead of having four in a row…
My only complaints is that I wish his SPD was more like 4s, and that j.mp would turn into the downward chop because it just looks funky the way it is now. Also yes to Lariat hitting crouches.
I have beaten many Sims, Fangs and Nash. Thing is, you actually have to think to win with Zangief! If you just want to rush in like an idiot then Zangief is not for you.
I beat many yun and evil ryu in SFIV with Dan
Do it means that it is a “possible matchup” with Dan?
It is meaningless for a fighting history of a single person.
It always have variance due to the player level difference.
But in general, assume both player have the same level, especially in high level matchup, and especially vs dhalism, gief has zero tools to get in, even more worse than Hugo vs Dhalism in USFIV
Even Snakeeyez always get melted by Dhalism in SFV
Why did Snake_Eyez destroyed Fchamps Dhalsim in the finals?
Why did I perfect a (Ultra Gold) Dhalsim today?
Why did I double perfect a (Ultra Gold)Fang today?
Fang is not a hard matchup, Nash feels like 5:5 after you know how to play against him, the only matchups that are maybe 4:6 are Sim and Chun Li.
Eventfags tier-list is retarded as shit. Chun Li,Dhalsim,Ken are one of the strongest characters in the game, Zangief is Mid or Higher Mid-tier at least.
SF4 Zangief was much more scrub-friendly, SFV Zangief has a higher skill cap and you need great fundamentals. There is your answer why you suck with him.
Go watch The_Kool_Kid94, Fugboi,Daikuza or Snake Eyez’s Zangief, they all let Zangief look S-tier as fu*k
But I agree with one thing, Lariat should combo against cr.opponents. bit that is more than enough.
It’s so clear from your post that you don’t know anything SFV Gief. I can guarantee that you played less than 10 games with SFV Gief before puking out your misinformed opinions on here. Obviously your mindset is stuck in SF4 and you can’t adapt. Maybe fighting games aren’t for you.
I don’t think Gemini_hk is totally wrong. While I still get plenty of wins in sfv, I really kind of do hate what Zangief has become. While i acknowledge he takes fundamentals to win, they don’t seem very satisfying. Its like he’s been designed to be more of a tank than ever, but simultaneously given the smallest life bar he’s ever had in any game he’s been in. It just doesn’t make sense to me. Also, the fact that he’s got less mobility than ever leads to really slow drawn out games. I can’t tell you guys how many of my matches were decided by the clock.
What kills me the absolute most though about SFV isn’t Zangief specific, but I really can’t stand throws being slower than jabs. It makes absolutely no sense to just get punched out of a grab.
Seriously? It’s really hard to land a CA combo? f.mk hitconfirm links. F.HP to CA is easy. J.HK to f.HP to super is easy. Those are all completely practical and easy applications that any Zangief player should be able to see and do.
Well, compared to other characters it is hard. I’ve been sitting in training mode for 2 days learning shorts and counter hits into super and still can’t do it consistently. Imagine Gief being able to link into CA from cr. mk or lariat, woah.
No way in hell. Sim is bad but probably 6-4 bad. fang in my opinion is not bad at all, might even be in Giefs favor. He really has nothing that keeps gief out when you play patient. And up close he loses to gief bad. Nash is a 5-5.
This is just a design choice to make the game more aggressive. When you get hard knockdown because throws are so slow the tech comes out slow as well so they have to eat the mixup between a throw and attack. This allows for more counter hits keeps people on the offensive. Again just a design choice but personally I like it
Not at home to test it but earlier there is a comment about c.lp, s.lk, super. Since s.jab combos to super why not c.lp to s.lp to super? s.jab gives more advantage on hit, might be easier than s.lk. Maybe less range.
Edit. C.lp to s.lp only works on counter hit as well. Too much pushback to get this to work.
Can you explain why the c.lp, s.lk, super works? And I mean the input, you only do upwards motion once and it works, but you can’t do standing 720 in the same way. It’s so weird I’ve been training it and sometimes the CA just comes and sometimes it doesn’t even when I see my inputs are the same both times. I want to do it consistently but I don’t even know what I’m doing wrong.
Well c.lp s.lp super doesn’t work. I’m getting the hang of c.lp s.lk super. It is a link so buffer the 720 while s.lk is active. Don’t have to do it super super fast, slow down a frame and let it link.
C.lp to c.lk to super works. S.jab to s.lk to super seems easier since you don’t have to go from low to standing. Situational where you’d be so close to hit a standing jab though without having to worry about the pushback.
Also can do deep cross up body splash to c.HP cancel to super. Timing is strict to cancel c.hp
Probably known but s.MP links to super. S.mk does not.
It’s so hard to describe the motions.
But here is a tip, when gief stand up after cr.lp, you have enough time to buffer the motion of CA, so do it before st.lk finished.
It’s funny I hated gief in SFIV but I love his gameplay in SFV. Yet it is terribly obvious that he is a subpar character. To me, one thing that they should change that would give him a bit of fighting chance against many characters is a faster jump speed and longer jump range. When jump ins in this game are so prevalent because its ultra low risk and high reward if you hit, I don’t see why gief is the only char (apart from sim ofc) should be the only char who cant jump on opponents. A Ryu or a Ken can fireball you from neutral and even with a read on them and a very very very early jump, they have time to recover and dp you.
I really don’t see how Gief is even remotely bad in this game aside from Sim’s BS and having to actually push into fireball wars slowly again. No chip kill, 0 frame command grab that’s comboable, and blah blah, there’s no way Gief is anything lower than Mid in this game.
As for jump ins…Gief does not need to jump in this game. And if he does land a jump in he can end most people with a single super stock with just bodysplash x headbutt x super, not even high execution and that’s a free round half the time. It’s enough.
