i have the overll feeling he needs harder to go inside and its less scary and less rewarding if you are in⊠but godlike reaktion and uses of VTrigger might spin him on the top in high Level play
What Ralenzo said. Also, I think st.FP is going to be very situational. Like if youâre close to the corner against Ryu/Ken and theyâre chucking FBs in your face. Or youâre fighting someone whoâs problem button is a standing one. I donât think itâs gonna be something that you just throw out there to see what happens. We have cr.LP and st.MK for that.
s.HP is a useful button. One example if you find a Mika player who wants to spam drop kick just press s.HP on reaction. Thereâs going to be plenty of uses.
I am late to the party on this and this is crazy early to talk about tiers, but I am bored at work so why the hell not.
Iâll put a few characters below Gief immediately.
Laura ( seems to me to lose a lot of match ups)
Ken(absolutely zero frame traps, for a rush down character this is very harsh)
Rashid(very little damage and seems to be mostly based around gimmicks )
Sim( Lag on normals and general reliance on teleport mixups seems to make him very one-dimensional, he will probably have very bad match ups.
I understand youâre saying Gief relies too much on reads but that is now the game. Everyone relies on hard reads now, they want it to be risk versus reward. That is why things like ryu cr. forward fireball are unsafe on block.
I have played Gief since 92 and with the exception of alpha3 this is his best version.
nahh donât exegerate sf4 gief vanilla was a berast sadly it had sagat as breaks^^ this gief canât go in if there is a good zoner or at least not as good as and if hes in its harder to score⊠but his vskill gives him the edge over save specials like karins overhead move⊠simply absorb and punishâŠ
not to talök about sf4 vanillas antiairing lariat and the savety of both lariats
He was a beast in vanilla but It was irrelevant in high level play for three reasons Seth, Akuma, and Sagat. He has no match ups close to as bad as that in this game, so in turn he is better now.
That is a grappler for you. If someone is going to complain about him relying too much on reads then he probably isnât the character for them. Also, reliance on reads doesnât make him bad
Having to read for everything to win isnât a good sign about the characterâs strength
This iteration of gief is pretty cool to play even if he gets some problems, he has nothing to mash under pressure making you loose the round when youâre defending maybe itâs because Iâm to used to usf4 hawk where i have to mash my path to victory or 'cause i donât use enough the v reversal âthe giefâs one doesnât seems to be that greatâ, but to me itâs like i need to have the lead during all the round to win it, if i just loose it for 1 second itâs over.
A2 Gief was great but lost pretty hard to top tiers. I still think this version Is a better Gief. He has fantastic anti zoning tools with headbutting fireballs and vskill, buttons are about equal even though I miss his old crouching fierce from Alpha. Runningbear grab in this game is godlike and having an air spinning pile-driver is insane.
In the final version of the game, the grey damageâ on block is increase, but the regeneration is much, much faster, so itâs basically a nice Zangief buff.
