No way of knowing for sure without testing but I think the short v-trigger should work, though itâs probably wasteful if you can capitalize on crush counters by dashing anyway.
Holding it wonât work since his v-trigger is a hit by itself. If you do it on a CC you suck them in, v-trigger hits, theyâre in hitstun so not throwable.
I donât know if gief can v-trigger cancel (going with VTC from now on) his normalsâŚthatâs a good question actually. I actually wonder if all characters and all normals are v-trigger cancellable now. Itâs not tied to special or super cancel ability since ryuâs s.mk can VTC, but Iâve never seen it done after a sweep for instance.
Then you see where Iâm going with this right? If Geif can VTC a normal(s) with enough hitstun or recovery, but it would normally put an opponent outside of any grab range then perhaps by VTCing you can bring them back ino a grab set sup. Sort of like scorpions chain. Iâm wondering if it could work like that, in theory.
Maybe you could even VTC into a cancellable normal and go straight to EX/Super. If Geifs VT works that way he would actually a really dirty VT.
First intelligent analysis youâve said so far so Iâll respond on what I believe will occur. The running bear grab is just bait, what will happen is since its fast enough to catch someone off guard similar to balrogs ex overhead in 4, it will be used sparingly but mainly to trick opponents into jumping when you dash as it can be mixed in there, then when they jump obviously you do the air spd or standing HK crush counter popup into air spd for 40% damage, its not meant as a âcatch em off guardâ like hugos light meat squasher but more of a keep on your toes. combine that with the held St HP which also looks similar to those in a high pressure situation and you can really make someone frantic
Air spd is really slept on I think. Especially if it has decent range.
I doubt theyâre going to make all normals VTCable. The normal rule is the normal has to be special cancelable and I think theyre just adding exceptions like Ryus s.mk. There are some specific chosen specials that can be canceled but theyâre also exception. I donât see them making sweeps or other normals that canât be canceled being VTC capable.
If the gief player can time it then they deserve it.
It creates a much more interesting situation where the defender has to consider throwing out such an early shoryu and makes them more likely to wait which gives gief some room to jump in and mix up.
If youâre worried about it use a grounded normal to AA.
The super is starting to grow on me more now that I understand the concept behind it. Seeing it outside of the trailer makes it more obvious that hes shoving you through the floor.
Only qualm I have with gief is that his CA should be replaced with the pocket fighter thing where heâs sitting at a table reading a paper, then throws the table in the air because that was funny.
Since weâre complaining about stuff, I want that back because that was hilarious.
I remember renting that game and he would go OH YEAH! and we need to bring that back. This is clearly the most important issue facing this game. Remember when he would read that paper and everything was okay, then some jerk would interrupt him? Weâve gotta do something about that. I remember pausing that mid animation repeatedly with my friend Brendan just to catch him turning his face slowly at the table. âAngry Father Lectureâ
There would be that frame where he was reading the paper, then he just glanced over and his opponents face would change âI have made a mistakeâ. TABLE TOSS! It was best when Morrigan was his opponent. He would glance over and she would be like "blah blah blah talkin about stuffâŚUh oh. Morriganâs face made the most hilarious expression in the history of faces when the table was about to get tossed. My friend and I rewound that like 30 times and kept cracking up like 20+ years ago. I still remember us doing it. Sheâs like âhooooo boyâ Then he says I AM READING THE FUCKING PAPER! tosses table into the air
