Just running down the list, it doesn’t have to be invincible if it actually does what it’s supposed to, which I’m assuming is primarily to provide a way to get close. Right now it’s not looking very frightening.
360 motions are so much easier nowadays. IV made inputs lenient as fuck, I was playing ST the other day at a friend’s house just for fun and I tried zangief out. I couldn’t do SPD for my f’ing life, I just couldn’t.
It is an anti projectile. You can suck in characters who throw fireball at a certain distance. Like Seth maybe. Then you hit with SPD or anything you want.
Also, keep in mind that he has infinite armor when he uses Iron Muscle during the V trigger (the only thing that can break it is CA).
TBH I think he is stronger than people are leading on. You can’t really relate him to SFIV Gief. He’s a whole different Gief and he seems to be one of those characters that you will have to understand how to use his entire toolset to see where he really goes.
That’s just a gimmick. Though I can see why a higher jump arc could be good in some situations, so ideally he’d have two different arcs. But between the two it’s pretty clear a shorter/lower jump is miles better.
Different SPDs do different damage. Elsewhere in the video he does a SPD to Mika and it does about the same damage as her grab:
Actually, Mika DOES do her V-skill before that in the video, even though she doesn’t hold it long. Do we actually have confirmation about WHEN the damage boost takes place during her V-skill?
When was it stated that Gief has 1200 health? Characters really haven’t had 1200 health in SF for a while. He had 1100 in USF4. And, Mika seems to have 1000 according to the diagram. Not that big of a difference.
We had no idea what the properties are on their grabs. Giefs jab one probably has more range. Might be comboable, too…like his super and his EX SPD.
I have the impression he builds LESS v-meter from parrying that he does from blocking a fireball (his v-meter building is like ryu, really low). Can anyone confirm this?
That sounds a bit of a generalization. Especially considering his new armor move works in conjunction with his V Trigger which both give him options that he didn’t have in Omega. Has some different normals and I don’t think he could combo into his EX grab or super either. Plus is in a game with no focus and I believe even has a normal with armor on it now.
He has the armor/parry in omega, he can combo into grabs, has the same normal with armor (s.hp) that can be charged the same, s.hk causes the same crush counter (juggle state). Even the lariat animation is like sfv.
What SFV gief has different is the v-trigger over green hand (which caused a soft knockdown so pretty huge), his dash is faster but jump is floatier, cr.hk doesn’t knockdown and cr.mk is his “sweep”.
Can’t forget he has air throw/air EX SPD also. Gonna have more of an air presence I believe due to that.
All of those options in a new game where people can’t focus and backdash their way out of the things he throws (but he can armor them)? I think that all sounds like a good package in the making.
Haha, yeah… I think SF4 shortcut is a 225? ST you have to hit the four cardinal directions… 720’s are still mostly impossible for me unless I buffer of a jump-in tick.
Moves do less damage when people are below different health threshholds.
R mika throws Gief when gief has more than 50% life to start, so her throw does full damage.
Gief throws Mika when she’s already below 50%, so his throw does not do full damage.
SF4 had this and SF5 definitely does too because I remember having to wait for the training dummy to heal in the beta to get a proper gauge on combo damage.
that normal suplex looks like give adds 3 times power to dig the opponent deeper the trailer was a cut down version the real version in the video just above at 6:13 looks baddass and even leaves a big howl in the ground for the entire fight. i like it! a bit more power smothness and its a good fast animation sadly giefs move is the SPD he even tryed to improve it with bears and than his super is no SPD thats the only thing i dont like about it, maybe if he starts with spd then a suplex in a suplex and then the last suplex dig yeah that would look much better and i cut allways grab a coffy in a fight that sounds great!!
I feel like the visual effect of Gief’s SPD is a bit lame. I hope they add some oomph or a louder sound effect or a small screen shake to emphasize how hard he drops you into the floor with this move
