Haven’t yet seen the attack boxes, but it does appear like Headbutt is Zangief’s best defensive poke. With SFV’s button priority system, heavy attacks in defense, will be key.
What’s the deal here? I keep hearing Headbutt is effective against Chun Li but I haven’t had success with it. I’m thinking my range is off? How are you guys using it? Timing and range-wise?
What is the strategy for an opponent that has a reversal like dp on their wakeup? Characters like Bison or Gief are free to pressure with meaty or SPD mixup besides the occasional wakeup super reversal. Say I’m fighting Ryu and finally got past the fireballs and scored a knockdown. The last thing I want to happen is eat an invincible dp because I tried to meaty headbutt his wakeup. Instead, I’ve just been letting them wakeup while I stay at about CR.jab range and continue to pressure from there. I’m not sure if this is right but I sure hate losing all of my progress/positioning and being put in a wakeup situation myself just because of that invincible reversal. The nice thing is that usually after a “baited” dp CC the opponent wises up and I can play a bit more wakeup but the fear of the reversal is always there.
It’s all mind game. From my observation, lower rank players DP from the start until they got punished. Mid rank players tend to reserve their DP until a critical time (e.g. they are about to die or you have full meter). High rank players do it kinda randomly but Snake Eyez always guess it right…
well most of the time they’ll throw it out as a last resort… for the ryu scenario try to bait them with a headbutt once they get knocked throw one out let them know that you’re gonna do a meaty headbutt then just block…assuming of course they dont do a quick get up
I finally hit gold. I think I’m going to stop playing Gief and switch to either Sim or Birdie as I’ve been playing them on the side. I got a bit lucky with a string of Karins and Lauras on my way to gold and I consider Gief to have a slight advantage in those match ups. But I get so frustrated with some characters who can sit behind a wall of fireballs and anti-airs. I feel like Gief has 100% no chance against good players who use these characters (especially Nash) although Snake Eyez seems to have absolute no issues with this, so it’s probably a big part of me just not being a great player. However sometimes I get so salty when I make one mistake against these characters, they manage to escape away with a simple backdash, and I lose the game trying to get back in. It messes with my head in a really bad way. I know that a lot of this comes down to a mental block that I need to get over but I just need a break from Gief until they give him some kind of buff.
snakeeyez uses a lot of v skill to zoning characters dont really know how to use it properly stupid nash spamming sonic boom all day then you jump on that dude be prepared to eat an EX flash kick
Hallo you guys!
I asked this on the other forum, but either the people who were/are online don’t know the answer or I was just ignored lol…
Anyways…
Do you guys know if “Mignon_Luffy” is that EVO Luffy?
I played against this Platinum Mignon_Luffy… and if it was HIM I would upload the matches, if not, then I won’t xD
will somebody give me a breakdown on giefs f.mk it can sometimes hop a low attack but sometimes i can see that it went over a low attack but still get hit with it
Yep f.mk will go over low attacks but only from frames 7-20. It is a great move for sure because it gives you a free super combo on hit. You can use it to close the distance on an opponent. Hop into spd range and buffer the 360 before you land and BAM. Just beware that you are -3 on block which means it is punishable by stuff like light shoryuken or 3 frame jabs.
You know, its a difficult question for a new game. But I don’t think you guys will like this answer.
BLOCK. with the options of 300+ damage on the stock market.
Reversal has a hugely negative expected value. So I’m not worried if they want to bet on those stocks, and get their money in bad.
Although an important factor could be whether your meaty move can be telegraphed, visually. In which case, they could decide on that critical frame whether to pull the trigger. So perhaps a light attack meaty might work better, as its harder to read and resembles crouch block. Also, you could perhaps use feints\fakes like crouch LP, on whiff, would put you out of reach of the reversal. But not really a good option.
You could mix in a few more options like V-Body, Charged HP, just so they know, your not a one hit wonder. Or do a momochi, time an attack on frame 4, while your right next to them. If you can get closer, you should. So you can apply pressure, and make them guess 4 times.
I hate to point it out to you, but we’re playing table stakes. You may fear the reversal, but that fear is well eclipsed by the fear of Crush Counter. Odds 3 to 1. They have to guess right about 3/4 (75%) of the times to break even.
The meta in sfv regarding dps is that nobody actually wants to dp.
Whereas in sf4 scrubs and generally lower level people would dp with wild abandon, now people are scared of getting crush countered so you have essentially MAKE people DP.
Lay on heavy pressure with your meaties and meaty spds and that will help coax out heavier risk options
Finally clawed my way back up to 4k today by beating an 8k Ryu lol. I could care less about online play and points but it does feel good fighting back. I remember getting up to around 4500 in the first week or two then getting so frustrated I dropped way down to like 2k. Lots of rage and salt over this damn character lol. Anyone who gets over 5k with Gief deserves a medal, good lord. Fight on guys.
